INTRODUCTION & MOTIVATION

23rd March
Resources/
References

Class is shown examples of newspapers on screen. Hand out newspapers

so the class can look through them as youre giving instructions and
expectations.
Explain that we will be creating a news article/paper on the computer
using Microsoft Word. They will use the information they research in
week one.
LESSON STEPS

10 min

Ask the class to use texters to outline/highlight the: titles, text, images,
etc, on the news article to look for inspiration.

20 min

Using the news papers they studied, cut out different features they like of
the articles and glue them onto a page to design what they would like
their article to look like.

[Use a compliment], why have you chosen to layout your article

like this?
What would be an effective way to draw the reader to your
article?
Will you do yours in colour or black and white?

30 min

As each student completes their design they will begin writing a draft of
their article in their writing books. If they complete, and upon approval
by teacher, they are able to move onto the computers to begin writing
their News Article on Microsoft Word.
Lesson Closure: (Review lesson objectives with students)

Students will do peer reflections on drafts.

Share design with peers.

Transition: (What needs to happen prior to the next lesson?)

Save news article and log out of computer.

Return to desk quietly and wait for further instruction.

Assessment: (Were the lesson objectives met? How will these be
judged?)
Article will be graded upon completion.
