What you bring to the RA position and


how to use it to your fullest potential
To prepare for Saturday, please do the following:
• Go to the following site:

• Take the quiz—this should take about 10-15 minutes
• Please consider questions within the context of the RA position
• Print out your results and bring them with Saturday morning.
For Saturday you need to bring with you:
• Your MBTI type print-out
• Class Schedule print-out
• Writing utensil
• Meal conference card
• A beverage of choice if needed (e.g. water, something with caffeine)

10:00am: What’s your type? MBTI & You


- The Johari Window—Reflection (*handout about Johari window; *reflection worksheet) -
(10-10:15am)
- Intro of MBTI (*handout of MBTI types): 10:15-10:20am
- Tally of Types: 10:20-10:23am
- Break-out by Type: 10:23-10:45am
#Activity: Using Butcher Block/Markers—Groups list
1. Characteristics of their type 2. Effect on group interactions. After approx. 10min-
utes, groups share with the larger group through a 1-2 minute skit/poem/song about
what’s memorable about their type—then share the butcher block
- *Handout: My type worksheet—to be filled out throughout the workshop
(10:45-11:00am)

11:00am—12:30pm—Break & Brunch

12:30pm: Self & Staff


- #Activity: *Handout: Prompt Questions—Groups by duty partners; answer prompt ques-
tions, prepare answers and discuss as a group (12:30-1:00pm)

1:00pm: Self & Residents


- #Activity: Butcher block & markers, *Handout: Case Studies—Groups by small staff, each
with a case study regarding resident types—groups write on butcher block predicted type
and why; and list, based on this type, how to proceed with 1:1 interactions, programming,
and addressing policy violations. Present to group. (1:00pm—1:30pm)

1:30pm: Practice makes...personality? Work place habits


- #Activity: Work place spectrum & reflection (1:30pm-2:00pm)

2:00pm—2:15pm : BREAK

2:15pm: Supervisor Personality


- #Activity: *Handout (given out later) G/HD personality pages—First, participants sepa-
rated in groups by small staff should guess, based on what they know so far about the
MBTI as to their supervisor’s personality type. After revealing the types, small staffs de-
sign a list on how to best interact with this type and their needs in the work place. Share
with supervisor (???) (2:15—3:00pm)

3:00pm: Kolb, MBTI & Academics


- Intro to Kolb—*Handout: Explanation of Kolb (3:00pm—3:05pm)
- *Handout: Kolb Inventory (3:05pm—3:15pm)
- Tally Kolb Types—partner up with similar Kolb types—together, make a list of what you
need in the classroom setting, utilizing your MBTI type as a guide (3:15pm—3:35pm)
- *Handout: Grade Goal-setting (done individually; then shared with partners when fin-
ished) - (3:35pm—3:50pm)
- *Handout: Master Syllabus—to be completed and handed in to supervisor by the second
staff meeting, Wednesday, January 16th (3:50pm—3:55pm)

4:00pm: *Handout: Complete Johari Window reflection (4:00pm-4:15pm)


- Sharing thoughts, reflections, what you learned about yourself
- Final closing activity (???)
