This is a Canada Visitor Visa Application Information kit. This kit serves as
an aid for persons who wish to visit Canada and need to apply for a visa. Not
all countries need a visa to enter Canada. Please confirm that the country
for which you hold a passport needs a visa to enter Canada.
More than 35 million people visit Canada every year to enjoy the many great
attributes our country has to offer. You will need to meet certain entry
requirements depending on where you live, and the reason for your visit.
The visit visa application is formally called Temporary Resident Visa.
This kit is a reference guide that should be used to assist you in completing
the application form for a Temporary Resident Visa to Canada.

Who Can Apply?


You must meet the following requirements if you plan on visiting Canada:
have a valid passport or other travel document that has at least 6 months
validity
be physically healthy
be able to prove that you have ties, such as employment, home and family,
that will take you back to the country you are coming from
convince an immigration officer that you will leave Canada by the time
your visa expires
have enough money to sustain yourself for your stay. For more
information ask the Canadian consulate in your area.
Additional Requirements:
a Temporary Resident Visa, depending on your citizenship. Please see list
of countries that require a visa to Canada on page.
a medical exam
a letter from someone who lives in Canada, inviting you to visit.
Several situations can make you inadmissible into Canada. These could be
your involvement in criminal activity, human rights violations or
involvement organized crime. You can also be inadmissible for security,
health or financial reasons. If you have been convicted of a criminal offence,
you may be inadmissible in Canada.
Some examples of criminal offences are theft, manslaughter, assault, and
dangerous driving. For a list of criminal offences in Canada, please see the

Supporting Documentation
The documents listed are usually needed with your application. However,
the local requirements of your country of residence may also apply. Please
verify all required documents with your local visa office before submitting
your application. You may do this by visiting their website or contacting
them by phone.
Proof of your identity
a passport or travel document, valid for at least another 6 months, that
guarantees your re-entry to the country that issued it.
two photos of you and any family members accompanying you
Proof of your financial sustenance
you must present proof of funds available to support you and
accompanying family members during your stay and to enable you to leave
Canada. This proof could be in the form of a bank statement, proof of
employment, pay stubs or copies of travelers cheques.
You must also provide proof of your immigration status in the country
from where you apply if you are not a citizen of that country
You must obtain a re-entry permit into the country you are applying from
if the government that issued your passport or travel document requires a
re-entry permit. This must be done before you apply for your visa to
Canada.
You must provide a photocopy of your national identity card if your
country of citizenship has one.
You may need to submit a marriage certificate and birth certificates for
any accompanying family members.
If your common-law partner is going to accompany you to Canada, you
may be required to complete the Statutory Declaration of Common-Law
Union (IMM 5409).

In this case, you must also provide the evidence outlined on the form to
support your relationship.
You may require a medical exam. If you need one, the officer handling
your case will notify you and an appointment will be set up.
If you are using a representative to complete your application form, your
must include the Use of Representative form.

Photo Specification Guide


Your application could be delayed if the guide is not followed.
Provide two identical photographs taken within the last six months. They
may be either black and white or colour.
The photos must be clear, well defined and taken against a plain white or
light-colored background.
If the photos are digital, they must not be altered in any way.
Your face must be square to the camera with a neutral expression. Do not
frown or smile. Keep your mouth closed.
You may wear prescription glasses as long as your eyes are clearly visible.
Sunglasses are not acceptable.
A hairpiece or other cosmetic accessory is acceptable if it does not disguise
your normal appearance.
If you must wear a head covering for religious reasons, make sure your full
facial features are visible.

The photos must show the full front view of the head, with the face in the
middle of the photo, and include the top of the shoulders.
The size of the head, from chin to crown, must be between 31 mm (1 1/4")
and 36 mm (1 7/16").
Crown means the top of the head or where the top of the head would be if it could be seen.

Instructions on Completing the Forms


Your application will be returned to you if it is not properly
completed, or the required supporting documents have not been
submitted.
Attach a separate sheet of paper if you need more space and indicate the
letter or number of the question you are answering.
The form itself is self-explanatory; however, some questions may be
confusing. The following instructions are guides for only those questions
which may pose a problem for you.
Section 1
You must indicate whether you are applying for a single entry, multiple
entry, or transit visa.
Single Entry allows you to enter Canada only once. This means that
once you leave Canada, you may not re-enter until you have obtained a visa
again.
Multiple Entry - allows you to enter Canada from any country more than
once during the validity of the visa.
Transit Visa - is needed if you are traveling through Canada to another
country, need a temporary resident visa, and your flight will stop in Canada
for less than 48 hours.
Section 3
You must provide the reasons for your visit to Canada. Provide as much
information as possible on your planned visit. Include persons and places
you will be visiting.

Indicate your mailing address with which the government of Canada can
communicate with you. If your home address is different from your mailing
address, you must indicate it in section 7.
Section 12
This section contains questions regarding security. Please answer truthfully
by placing an X inside the box for yes or no. If you answer yes to any
question from c g, you must fill out the related information section. If you
answered no, you can leave the information section blank and proceed to
the next section.
Section 14
Please sign the application form. If you do not sign, your application will be
sent back to you. This signature is your guaranty that all information
contained in the application package is truthful.

You must submit your application to the Canadian consulate that has
jurisdiction for your country. Please see the following website for a list of
consulates and countries.

How to Pay the Fees


Single entry - $ 75/person
Multiple entry - $150/ person
Family package - $400/ single or multiple
Please make sure that you meet the eligibility requirements before you
apply for the temporary resident visa and pay your fees. The processing
fee will not be refunded, no matter what the final decision on your
application. The fee will not be refunded even if you are refused. If you
apply again, you will have to pay the processing fee again. For information
on how to pay the fees, please use the following website to locate the
consulate in your area and its regulations. Methods of payment may vary by
region. Personal cheques are not accepted.
