It is a continuity of the CIE programme which


was implemented in schools since the year
1997.
Since 2003 in Bahasa Melayu and was
implemented in English since 2005
For 3 months ( or 12 weeks ) continuously
1 hour per week or two periods continuously.
All schools with Computer Labs provided by
the Ministry of Education. All Level 1 pupils
consisting of Year 1, 2 and 3 are exposed to
ICTL.
In SK schools, the English language is used .
While for SJK ( C ) and ( T ) the chinese and
tamil languange is used. ICTL also can be
taught using the English languange.
A guide is given in the introductions section
of the module.
For a start, Level 1 ( Year 1,2 and 3 ) and will
be extended to Level 2 (Year 4, 5 and 6 )
ICTL is under the jurisdiction of ICT unit which
is coordinated by the Information
Technology and Communication Division.
The budget has been allocated to schools
under maintenance cost which includes
electricity, ink and papers.
ICTL programme is only compulsory for
government labs under the Ministry of
Education (MOE). It is encouraged if ICTL is
taught in private labs.
It is not necessary for the English teachers to
teach ICTL lessons in SJK (T)/(C)

For SK it is taught in English. SJK ( C ) and ( T )


pupils own languages are used.
It is not compulsory for schools without
computer labs to carry out this programme.

Teachers could use bilingual during the


lesson but it is advisable to be taught in

No, because it is compulsory to use the


English period.

20. What will happen if I did not


include the English skills?

Nothing will happen but it is a must to use


some of the English skills

have mastered the ICTL skills
and are advanced learners?

The ICTL learning outcomes should be


achieved first then pupils can proceed to a
higher level.

22. Can I collect money from


students to run this
programme?

This program is free for all the pupils as the


budget has been allocated to schools under
maintenance costs.

Teaching and Learning Processes


1. If there is any conflict between
subjects, which has the priority in

ICTL lessons should be given the priority


in using the Computer Lab.

You can have group and station based


activities as well as pair work.
Pupils have to take turns to use the PC.

or extra worksheets.

Yes. ICTL is a very simple and basic


programme.

10. Can temporary or contract


teachers teach this programme?

Yes.

11. Should I write a separate lesson


plan for the ICTL programme?

No, because it is taught during the


English period.

12. Can I conduct ICTL using only one


PC?

Yes. Suggested activities are, group


and pair work.

13. Can we do pair teaching to teach


ICTL?

Yes, because two teachers can control


the class very well.

14. Is there any special allowance for


teaching ICTL?
15. Can the school hire private
teachers to teach ICTL in my
school?

No.

16. What if the teachers responsible is


not around to run the program
continuously? ( long courses,
maternity leave, holidays )

The school management should be


aware and appoint a temporary
teacher or other teachers who have
knowledge of ICTL to carry out this
programme.

No. Only English teachers in SK or


appointed teachers SJK C/T are
allowed to teach.

Assessment
1. Can the marks of the ICTL
assessment be added in the exam
marks?

It is not necessary.

2. How can I assess the pupils


performance?

You can use the suggested assessment


provided in the module or create your
own. It can also be done through the
teachers observation.

Computer Lab Management

computer lab?

The lab coordinator is responsible for


the log book in the lab.
Keep them in the Lab or the classroom.

4. How can I conduct this programme


if the computer lab is locked or the
lab coordinator is not around?

Teachers could get the keys of the lab


from the office.

5. The location of the computer lab


and classroom is very far. What can
I do to lessen the time to and from
the lab?

ICTL lesson should be conducted


during the first two periods of the day
or immediately after recess.

6. Do I need to prepare a special log


book for ICTL lesson?

No. Use the computer log book for


pupils to write their names.

CDs , Module and Softwares


1. Where can I get the module, CDs
and the Guideline for ICTL
programme?

2. Why cant I install the freewares in


certain laptops?( esp. Learn letters )

HSP and Modules with CDs will be


given free through JPN which is then
distributed to the PPD / PPDK / PPG.
Schools should get the modules from
their own PPD / PPDK / PPG.

solution of this problem.

3. How to install the freewares if the


Lab coordinator is not around or
refuse to help?

Try to install the freewares using the


step by step instruction given in the
module.

4. Can the ICTL freewares be used for


other subject teachers?

Yes. Other subject teachers are


encouraged to use the freewares.

5. Can other softwares be used if it is


suitable for the pupils?

Yes, other suitable software can be


used.

6. I have lost my CDs. What should I


do?

Computer Lab & Facilities

You should contact the Lab


Coordinator of your school.
It is not compulsory for schools without
electricity to conduct ICTL lesson.
