Reminder about parking

& afternoon dismissal
We have had several parents
express concern over being unable to navigate through the parking lot or back out of parking
spaces due to cars being parked
along the curb. When picking
up students from the car line, we
ask that you please drive
through the car line if at all possible. When you must park to
pick up, please park your vehicle in an appropriate parking
space, not along the curb.
Remember that it is unlawful to
park in a handicapped space
unless you have a handicapped
license plate or mirror hanger.
Please make every effort not to
block access to these spaces.
We appreciate your help in making our afternoon dismissals run
smoothly.

FIRST FRIDAY FOOD DRIVE

The Lake Murray Elementary Student Council
is sponsoring a food drive March 23-26, 2015
to benefit School District Fives Education
Foundation weekend snackpack program. Each
grade level is asked to bring specific items that
go in the snackpacks that are sent home with
identified students each Friday. The items are:
KINDERGARTEN: Juice boxes or CapriSuns OR single serve microwavable
packages of grits or oatmeal
FIRST GRADE: Ramen Noodles
(stovetop or microwave) OR Slim
Jims
SECOND GRADE: Granola bars OR individual size fruit snacks
THIRD GRADE: Canned or microwavable pasta like ravioli or Spaghetti-Os
OR single serve cereals
FOURTH GRADE: Single serve fruit
cups OR Rice Krispies Treats
FIFTH GRADE: Single serve macaroni
and cheese OR individual six-pack
serving crackers (Lance type crackers)

We are already planning for the next school year and

are currently recruiting nurses who are interested in
being part of the school nurse substitute team. You
may choose to run the Health Room and/or be part of
the screening nurse group who will conduct student
health screenings. This will include screening students
for vision, hearing, and blood pressure. Training/
orientation will be provided.

LMES After-School Chess Tournament

The LMES Chess Club would like to provide a special opportunity to any interested students in
grades 2-5 who would like to participate in a three round after-school chess tournament. Please carefully read the expectations below before signing up to participate in this event. Registration will be
limited to the first 40 registrants in order to ensure we have enough boards and clocks for the different
rounds. After reading the information below, you can register at this link: http://goo.gl/iL8tjV.
Cost of Event- $3.00 per player- This will cover the cost of trophies. Please send in your cash payment in a labeled envelope
to: Jessica Jones. Your child's name, grade and homeroom teacher need to be written on the outside of the envelope.
Time- 2:40-3:40 Students will report to media center right after dismissal.
Location- LMES Media Center
*If you have a chess clock, please bring it to use on these days. Make sure your name is clearly written on your clock.
1.) You must already know how to play chess to participate in this tournament. We will not be doing any instruction on these
days.
2.) You must be able to commit to staying after school on these Mondays: 4/13, 4/20, 4/27 from 2:40-3:40. If you are absent
for any reason, you will have to forfeit that round. This is necessary to be able to pair players and keep track of round scoring.
We will not play make-up games.
3.) Students will be dismissed at the main car rider line area @ 3:40. Parents will need to wait in line for pick up. Please be on
time to pick up your child. In case of an emergency, contact the school main office. Students who attend Boys and Girls Club
can go directly to their assigned locations.
4.) We will be giving away trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in the tournament. Any winning students will be invited to attend the end of the year Chess Club Celebration on Monday, 5/4 to be recognized for this achievement.

Nominations for School Improvement Council

Every school in South Carolina is required by the Education Improvement Act to have a School Improvement Council. The
council serves as an advisory committee to the principal and assists with establishing and implementing goals for the school.
The council also helps establish priorities for the capital expenditures budget, the incentive budget and the operational budget for the school. At various times, SIC members are asked to represent the school on district committees. The School Improvement Council is composed of elected and appointed teachers, parents, and community members.
Our current council consists of the following elected parents from our school.

Each year parents elect their representatives to serve on the council. The two people elected will begin their term of service
in the 2015-2016 school year and will rotate off the council at the end of the 2016-2017 school year.
Before submitting a nomination, we request that you ask the person for permission to submit his/her name. It is important
that those nominated be willing to serve as a representative for the school. If you are interested in running, please nominate
yourself. Elected parents should have a child who will be at Lake Murray Elementary for the length of time of their service on
the council.
