OUTLINE OF THE SPEECH

1.0 PURPOSE OF THE SPEECH

The purpose of the speech is to address the poor performance of the pupils of SK Sidam Kiri,
particularly in Mathematics, Science and the English Language and how to overcome these
problems. It is also highlighted about the insufficient funds for PTA to carry out the ideas and
all the programs planned by school. Furthermore, this speech will also find solutions and
ways on how to solve the problems bring out by the members of PTA of SK Sidam Kiri.
2.0 INTRODUCTION
A very good morning to the headmaster of Sk sidam Kiri, the row of senior officers,
teachers and all beloved parents. Thank you to all who have elected me to this position. I
believe that we are at the cusp of opportunity for SKSK PTA to provide a much needed role
of leadership and responsibility, a role that asks us to work together for a common cause. We
each have unique talents, strengths and skills to share. When we link our individual strengths
together we are unstoppable. Each of us is an essential piece needed to ensure that all of the
children of SK Sidam Kiri are represented both locally and in our state and are part of the
equation. We also know that the relationship between students and teachers, and between
parents and teachers, has a major impact on a students success. Involved parents can
recognize that teachers are committed to the well-being of students. Parents can ensure their
childs success by providing a home that encourages learning and supports physical, mental,
and emotional development and by working with the school and other groups that have an
impact on their child.
Ladies and gentlemen, as in our previous meeting, weve come out with a quite
interesting issues which we think all of you already known what is it about currently I have
heard lots of complaints from all of us about our childrens performance especially after the
last mid-term test. I believe as parents we are so worried when we saw our childrens result
from the last test. According to the headmaster, there was a tremendous decreasing in their
results. I know most of the parents particularly for year six pupils are concerned about their
children poor academic performance especially in Mathematics, Science and English
Language subjects. This is because; these pupils are going to sit for their UPSR exam in
September. So, what actually happens to our kids?

3.0 BODY
First main point
First of all, about the poor performance for these three subjects, we have divided this
thing into four points of view which is from the subjects itself, teachers, parents and
school.Rumors and assumptions from parents are that, the teaching methods applied in the
classroom are no longer applicable for todays learning. Is that true? Actually, I believe were
on the cusp of dramatic changes to public education in this country. We, as a nation, are
having some tough conversations, looking hard at what works and what hasnt in our schools.
Being clearer than ever before on what students need to succeed, and what is less central to
success. By the way, teachers themselves must be more creative while teaching in class.
Teachers have to come out with an effective and fun method during teaching such as always
giving a practical examples because this is one of the effective ways an should be used
regularly. Teachers can help students link theory to practical application, which may result in
more productive learning. A practical example is not only helping to enhance the theories
taught in the classroom, but also useful tools in illustrating and explaining new material. By
using these examples, teachers are able to show students what they are learning has practical
applications and also teach them how to apply basic principles to real life problem.
Second main point
However, it is not the problems with the teaching style if the student itself could not
cope with the subjects. To overcome this matter, parents could send their children to attend
extra classes for particular subjects. Also, parents should make sure that they spend
sometimes with their children in solving homework. Parents may also encourage their
children to read books related to the subjects and revise may also help. So that, it is not the
teachers and the technique to be blame but we as an association involved directly with
education need to hold our hand together in order to enhance new technique. We need to help
teachers and the management of this school to find some new ways if we really want to see
the improvement in our childrens education in future. To many people those conversations
and changes are threatening, because change always causes uncertainty. But we have to
forgoer a small thing in order to get the better one.

Third main point

Here comes the best part. It is about parents point of view in education and teaching.
We know that education starts from home. Parents are the first teacher to their children. Its
been our responsibility to teach and nurture our children of what will they become when they
grow up. So, there are a few things that we can do such as dont ever think that only teachers
are responsibility towards our children performance in study. We must remember that
students only spent their time for about 6 to 8 hours at school daily and most of the time,
theyll at home. So we must be alert about our children activities, get to know all of their
friends and realize if there were any changes in their behaviour. If we want to help them with
their problem, we have to become their friend first instead of being their parent. These have
to be done because children only like to share their problems with friends more than their
own family members. We also must have a good relationship with our childrens teachers in
orders to know about our childrens performance in their study. Thats the best way for us to
know which subject that our children are weak in. So, in order to be a good parents, we have
to help them with their needs such as provide extra reference books, send them to tuition
class especially for the subjects that they are not very good
As for teachers, most of the parents here are really wanted to know every stage of
their childrens development. Thats why, we as parents strongly hope that the school
management and also teachers can take a drastic action in giving information and latest
update about the students. Here, PTA will play our rules through ensuring that all parents of
SK Sidam Kiri are well-informed about any particular weakness that their children have in
studies through academic report, via telephone, SMS and any other medium. We believe that,
parents and teacher can work together as a team in realizing this request.
Fourth main point
Furthermore, todays education does not only involved with chalk and talk activity it
is a wide new experience for the new generation. At the young age, our children are exposed
to difficult subjects such as science and technology, languages and problem solving. Also,
others subjects which are familiar like history, RBT and many others may seem simple to the
adults but the topics discussed nowadays are getting complicated. This is where our roles as
parents and teachers should be played. As a parent, we should monitor our childrens interest
and focus in study. With a little help and encouragement from parents, I believe that these
students could achieve better result each time. Teaching may be the only role for teachers in

school but with a little attention to every student could help them to pay attention to the
learning process in the class room. Teacher should be proactive in attracting students to listen
to them by giving rewards the students that perform or otherwise. Teachers also could use
new types of media to teach which may include computers, videos, audios, field trips and
many more. What else school may contribute to the issues? School here means the principal,
head of unit and all the teachers. Nowadays, there were few of our local universities had been
introduce with a social service program. One of the purposes of this program is to involve in
motivational program at school. So, we can collaborate with any local universities to organize
this kind of program. In this program, students from the universities can share their tips,
experience or anything about being a good student and they also can give the students with
some skills to answers question the better way. They also may share problems among them
because it easier for school student to co-operate with the students from the related
universities because they are more likely to have the same thinking and most of them are at
the average age of teenagers.
Fifth main point
Parents, how can we achieve what we have dream for our children if our actions did
not react as fast as like we talk. In order to provide such medium, schools should have
suitable funds to support such projects. Lack of funding may interrupt the process of learning
for our students. To attract such funding for the students; parents; teachers and school should
cooperate for the sake of education. So, again, we as the main association in this business
need to prioritize and invest in what works, and move away from what does not. We need to
find concrete solutions to overcome insufficient funds to carry out every project for our
school. This is because funds are the major problems that limit teachers to create new
environments in their everyday teaching techniques.
As the main supporters and backbone of the school we the PTA of SK Sidam Kiri will
arrange few activities which can generate incomes and funds into our accounts. The PTA
committee members had a long discussion last two days and came out with the ideas of
organizing a canteen day this coming school break. Well invite outsiders stalls and shops to
join our canteen day. We have agreed to charge some amount of fee if they are interested in
this activity. PTA committee agreed to slot in indoor games, fun booth and may be some other
fun activities. Coupon will be sold before the school break. We hope to get positive responses
from parents and student of SK Sidam Kiri. I think we better have another internal meeting

and we will discuss about this activity further. Besides, the committee members also agreed
to organize a Gala Dinner within next three month. We will invite few famous people and
maybe politician to come and the participation for the Gala Dinner will be charged according
to the table. We have set that a table will cost about RM200 to RM500. By doing this, we can
collect at least RM3000 to RM5000.
Furthermore, I hope that we can cooperate together to look for possible sponsorship
from outside agencies, companies and private organizations. I know that most of us come
from different economic, academic and political background, so that, I am very sure that we
can achieve something if we worked as a team closely.

4.0 CLOSING
Finally, as a representative for this association, I would say that teachers and school
should not be the only party that is responsible for the poor performance in academic of the
students. Parents and students themselves should also participate and help to identify the
reasons toward the problems. Advancement in technology and information should be used
wisely by all parties to improve the academic performance and also improve the learning and
teaching methods at school. Parents, you are always welcome if you have any new ideas in
conjunction to make this school the best place for our children to gain knowledge.
Education of any forms is a life-long learning experience that happens to everyone.
Parents are always the closest companion that set the attitude of their children. Along the
way, school and teachers also plays a role to mould these children into a better shape for the
nation. Parents concerns and teachers attentions may help students to feel more useful and
inspired to be more than an ordinary person. Last but not least, I would like say on behalf of
the PTA committee, a million of thank you to all of you because you let us take a little of your
time to attend this meeting. Till we meet again, thank you.
