FIVE TIME OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALLIST MEETS PUPILS
On Tuesday 15th July
four Year 9 pupils had
the opportunity to
meet Olympic gold
medallist Sir Steve
Redgrave for a sports
day with a difference.
The event, held at The
Gateway School, was
part of the Sporting Promise initiative which offers
alternative sports to encourage more young people to
participate in sport. Annie Hazell, Olivia Johnson,
Brendan Rahill and James Slaney were given the
opportunity to play ultimate Frisbee and dodgeball
with Sir Steve Redgrave. They also met Paralympic
rower Naomi Riches, GB judo star Tom Reed and
Welsh 1,500m Commonwealth hopeful Chris Gowell.
The whole day was just amazing. Sir Steve Redgrave
was so inspirational and so much fun! He told us that
anything is possible if we follow our dreams. He also
allowed us to take selfies with him!
