FIVE TIME OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALLIST MEETS PUPILS
On Tuesday 15th July
four Year 9 pupils had
the opportunity to
meet Olympic gold
medallist Sir Steve
Redgrave for a sports
day with a difference.
The event, held at The
Gateway School, was
part of the Sporting Promise initiative which offers
alternative sports to encourage more young people to
participate in sport. Annie Hazell, Olivia Johnson,
Brendan Rahill and James Slaney were given the
opportunity to play ultimate Frisbee and dodgeball
with Sir Steve Redgrave. They also met Paralympic
rower Naomi Riches, GB judo star Tom Reed and
Welsh 1,500m Commonwealth hopeful Chris Gowell.
The whole day was just amazing. Sir Steve Redgrave
was so inspirational and so much fun! He told us that
anything is possible if we follow our dreams. He also
allowed us to take selfies with him!

THE CENTENARY OF THE FIRST WORLD WAR
St Bedes Catholic College with be commemorating
the centenary of the First World War in a number of
ways from September 2014.
Year 9 pupils will be going on a Centenary First
World War Battlefields Trip in October and all Year
9 pupils will be studying the First World War in their
lessons.
The History department would like to
commemorate this event by creating a gallery
display of photographs and information about
family, relatives or friends of pupils and staff at St
Bedes who either fought in the First World War,
served in the auxiliary forces or who had an
interesting story to tell about life on the Home
Front.
If you can supply us with any First World War
stories and photographs, we will display the
information alongside the St. Bedes pupils to whom
they are connected.
Please bring any information to Mrs Lewis in D13 by
Friday, 5th September 2014.
