About the Course

Instructor

The advanced course is designed to focus on all engineering

aspects of overhead transmission line (Civil/Mechanical/Electrical).
The training will be class based presentation/discussion including
engineering theories and practices on the basis of number of years of
practical experience (Not a computer software training course). This
advanced course is designed to cover a variety of design subjects/
components and to focus a very wide audience of experienced
engineers of different backgrounds. This training will last 5 days
and will cover all components of overhead transmission line include
conductor, insulator, support structures, foundations, detailed
design; clearances, sag-tension calculations, structure loadings.
The course will also cover the latest design tools (introduction),
asset management, emerging technologies, replacement, upgrade
& refurbishment of existing OHLs. The whole concept of OHL
will be presented as an engineering course. The main objective
of this training course is to share international best practices and
practical experience in order to help utilities, developers, regulators,
contractors, designers, manufacturers, suppliers, consultants,
local authorities and government agencies to develop professional
overhead line engineers to fill the skills gap.

The course will be conducted by P K Sharma BEng

MSc CEng MIET.
The instructor is a professional Overhead Line
Engineer. He is a post-graduate in Power Distribution
& Transmission from Newcastle University (UK) and
a Chartered Engineer (CEng) accredited through the
Engineering Council UK.
He is a member of the Institution of Engineering
and Technology (MIET) (UK). His specialisation is in
Overhead Power Transmission Line Design, Project
Design Management, and Overhead Line Structure
Design. He has worked in India, Saudi Arabia,
Malaysia, UK and the USA, where he has now settled.
The instructor has twenty six years of varied experience
in overhead power transmission businesses across
the world, from conceptual project stages through
to detailed design to delivery of low voltage (LV)
and extra high voltage (EHV) overhead transmission
lines. He has experience within transmission utility,
contractor, consultancy and supply environments.
Specifically, he has 15 years of international
experience, during which he has been associated with
new line design, consultancy from specification to
delivery, study and strengthening design of existing
lines for refurbishment/re-rating, asset management,
investigation of site problems and OHLs components
study/selection using PLS CADD/Tower/Pole.
