National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO) is a National level organization set up under Directorate General of Health Services, Ministry of Health and Family Welf are, Government of
India located at 4th and 5th Floor of Institute of Pathology (ICMR) Building in Saf darjung Hospital New Delhi. It has f ollow ing tw o divisions:
"National Human Organ and Tissue Removal and Storage Netw ork
"National Biomaterial Centre.

"National Hum an Organ and Tis s ue Re m oval and Storage Ne tw ork


This has been mandated as per the Transplantation of Human Organs (Amendment) Act 2011. The netw ork w ill be established initially f or Delhi and gradually expanded to include other States and
Regions of the country. Thus, this division of the NOTTO is the nodal netw orking agency f or Delhi and shall netw ork f or Procurement Allocation and Distribution of Organs and Tissues in Delhi.
Function/Activitie s
National Netw ork division of NOTTO w ould f unction as apex centre f or All India activities of coordination and netw orking f or procurement and distribution of Organs and Tissues and registry of Organs
and Tissues Donation and Transplantation in the country. The f ollow ing activities w ould be undertaken to f acilitate Organ Transplantation in the saf est w ay in shortest possible time and to collect data to
develop and publish National registry:At National Le ve l :
Lay dow n policy guidelines and protocols f or various f unctions.
Netw ork w ith similar regional and state level organizations.
All registry data f rom States and Regions w ould be compiled and published.
Creating aw areness, promotion of organ donation and transplantation activities.
Co-ordination f rom procurement of organs and tissues to transplantation w hen organ is allocated outside the region.
Dissemination of inf ormation to all concerned organizations, hospitals and individuals.
Monitoring of transplantation activities in the Regions and States and maintaining data-bank in this regard.
To assist in data management f or organ transplant surveillance & organ transplant and Organ Donor registry.
Consultancy support on the legal and non-legal aspects of donation and transplantation.
Coordinate and Organize trainings f or various cadre of w orkers.

Maintaining the w aiting list of terminally ill patients requiring transplants.
Netw orking w ith transplant centres, retrieval centres and tissue banks.
Co-ordination f or all activities required f or procurement of organs and tissues including medico legal aspects.
Matching of recipients w ith donors.
Allocation, Transportation, Storage and Distribution of Organs and Tissues w ithin Delhi and National Capital Territory region.
Post-transplant patients & living donor f ollow -up f or assessment of graf t rejection, survival rates etc.
Aw areness, Advocacy and Training w orkshops and other activities f or promotion of organ donation.

National Biom ate rial Ce ntre (National Tis s ue Bank )


The Transplantation of Human Organs (Amendment) Act 2011 has included the component of tissue donation and registration of tissue Banks. It becomes imperative under the changed circumstances to
establish National level Tissue Bank to f ulf ill the demands of tissue transplantation including activities f or procurement, storage and f ulf il distribution of biomaterials.
The main thrust & objective of establishing the centre is to f ill up the gap betw een Demand and Supply as w ell as Quality Assurance in the availability of various tissues.
The centre w ill take care of the f ollow ing Tissue allograf ts:Bone and bone products e.g. deep f rozen bone allograf t, f reeze dried bone allograf t, dow el allograf t, AAA Bone, Duramater, f acialata, f resh f rozen human amniotic membrane, high temperature
treated board cadaveric joints like knees, hips and shoulders, cadaveric cranium bone graf t, loose bone f ragment, dif f erent types of bovine allograf t, used in orthodontics
Skin graf t
Cornea
Heart valves and vessels

Other tissues shall be gradually included.
