Title: General Notes

General rules

The general rules apply only where the points are not covered within the individual contest rules.

1. Engine run, max times, number of flights and fly-off type are to be set at the discretion of the CD and will be

dependent on prevailing conditions and circumstances on the day.

2. Builder of the Model rule applies.

3. Heat shrink plastic films may be used but must be of tissue-like appearance, not transparent, and with no

violent colours. The CD's decision on eligibility is final.

4. Vintage contests to be run for designs kitted or published prior to the end of December 1950. Designs flown

before the cut-off date are also eligible but the burden of proof rests with the contestant. If the design is

unpublished, the contestant must agree to give all available information on the design to SAM 35 for possible

publication.

5. Classic or Nostalgia contests to be run for designs kitted or published between the beginning of January 1951

and the end of December 1960. Eligibility of designs flown before the cut-off date is the same as for Vintage

contests.

6. Competitors are responsible for proving the eligibility of their models to the satisfaction of the CD and may

be asked to produce supporting evidence on the day of the contest.

7. Any of the contests suggested may be run as Vintage or Classic/nostalgia, substituting the dates (above) as

appropriate.

8. Models are entered, not the flyer, so more than one model per person is allowed.

9. One attempt per flight is permitted. An attempt-is a flight of 20 seconds or less. If no second attempt is made,

the first attempt score will count.

10. In the case of power events a motor over-run is counted as an attempt but no score may be entered for that

attempt if no second attempt is made. 11. The CD's decision on all matters pertaining to the contest is final.

Title: Sigma Shield & Water Planes

SIGMA SHIELD

This is for spark ignition models only and is run in a similar manner to the pre-war Sir John Shelley Cup.

1. The motor must be spark ignition engines of the appropriate era or replicas thereof and must be run on spark

ignition for the contest.

2. No D/Ts are to be used but ignition timers are allowed.

3. The contest consists of three flights. The first 60seconds, the second 45 seconds and the third 30 seconds.

Flights of 20, 15 and 10 seconds respectively are attempts.

4. The score is achieved from the addition of the percentage errors of the three flights The lowest score wins.

WATER WINGS TROPHY

This is a precision contest for free flight model waterplanes. Any type of power may be used. Designs may be

vintage or modern and can be scale or non-scale. There are two categories:- a) Rise Off Water and b) Hand

launch. A trophy is awarded for top RoW performance and a second award may be made for Hand Launch

(HL). HL entries need not be capable of RoW but must be able to float in a reasonable attitude. Contest rules are

as follows:-

1. The objective is to achieve three consecutive qualifying flights, the first flight time being the target for the

remaining two. A qualifying flight is 20 seconds or more. For RoW this time includes the take-off run, but the

model must be airborne for at least half the recorded time.

2. Flights are timed to one tenth of a second.

3. One attempt (below 20 seconds or failure to RoW) allowed per flight.

4. If any of the three flights fails to reach the qualifying 20 seconds you may try again with a 2'd or 3rd set of

three flights and enter the best set of times.

5. The lowest average error of the second and third flights from the target wins.

6. If two or more entrants achieve the same error from target, the higher target times place higher in the table of

results.

7. If only one trophy is awarded, HL will rank below all ROW.

8 If after achieving 3 satisfactory HL flights an opportunity arises to attempt RoW, you may then attempt up to

3 sets to the rules above. If this endeavour is unsuccessful, you may still enter your earlier HL results.

Title: Large Precision

LARGE PRECISION POWER

For venues with the appropriate amount of space, the "Miniature Precision" rules may be adapted for larger

models by adjusting the flight times, model size and engine sizes. Suggested new parameters are as follows:-

1. Engine size unrestricted but engines must be of the appropriate era or replicas thereof.

2. No engine timers except in the case of spark ignition.

3. No scaling of models allowed.

4. Qualifying flight times to be between 30 and 60 seconds with a target time of 45 seconds. Two qualifying

flights are required. Flights outside these times are attempts.

5. Divide the total flight time by two and award one point for every second error from 45 seconds.

6. Wingspan unrestricted but points to be awarded as follows:-

a) Wingspan 72in. and over — 0 points.

b) Wingspan over 50in. and under 72in. — 2 points.

c) Wingspan 50in. and under — 4 points.

7. ROG may be made mandatory if the CD wishes and conditions permit without unfairly penalising smaller

models. In this case the flights will be timed from release of the model.

8. The points for these two sections are added together and the 7 models with the least points totals (including

any tied for 7th place) proceed to the concours judging section.

9. Concours judging will rank the models in order with highest ranking model being awarded 0 points, the next

highest 1 point and so on.

10. Flight time points, wingspan points and concours points are all added together and the model with the lowest

score is the winner. In the event of a tie, the model with the larger/largest wingspan will win. If still tied, the

model with the lowest points from the judging section wins.

3. No scaling of models allowed.

highest 1 point and so on.

12. Flight time points, wingspan points and concours points are all added together and the model with the lowest

score is the winner. In the event of a tie, the model with the smaller/smallest wingspan will win. If still tied, the
