The Gift Shop runs so efficiently that we are presenting a gift of $107,500 to the Waukesha Memorial
WMH Foundation. That is impressive! The time and attention that this committee
gives to the Shop is obvious; that is why one so often hears, " I love that gift shop - January 4 8:30 Board Meeting
It's the BEST - I go there all the time." Right now it is radiating festivity and ready 9:00 Social Time
for you the day of the luncheon; so begin, continue, or wrap up your holiday
shopping - remember the 20% off appreciation sale. Congratulations are in order to

The Thrift Shop has made many moves; I have heard tales of the first location Sue Lacy
and it appears we have upgraded ourselves. Nine years ago Joan MacGregor and
Joan Woodson with a ton of help from Marlene and Jim Wickler and others took on February 1 8:30 Board Meeting
the laborious task of moving from Wisconsin to Grand Avenue. All of that hard work
and dedication has afforded us with a shop we have been proud of for many years. 9:00 Social Time
Appreciation for that kind of service is difficult to put into words. 9:30 Member Meeting
Hosting Mary Richmond
Now - another move. A new location has been chosen, a lease has been signed Millie Kelley
and a hollow rectangular building has been transformed into a five star thrift shop.
This is made possible by hours of hard labor by committee and club members. In
addition, husbands giving of their time and talents have made everything come
together so the needs of the community can be served. From the onset, Lawson
Rennie has looked at possible locations giving his advice as an architect and a
volunteer for Habitat For Humanity, Don Murn has made legal advice readily
available and not enough can be said about the remarkable job done by Rudy
Spiering, Jim Wickler, Chuck Holmstrom and Dave Pfeffer. They have worked
tirelessly along with their wives. Trucks have been rented and other generous
donations have been given - all to accomplish this move. Hence the WSC Thrift
Shop has opened to RAVE REVIEWS on Tuesday, October, 27,2009. A
remarkable fete! We celebrate Mary Spiering and her unending energy!

Put on you dancing shoes! The Charity Ball committee is working hard to make
this one of the best ever. The invitations are a delightful introduction to a
memorable evening. The WSC Charity Ball is a great way to begin celebrating the Inside This Issue
holidays as well as contributing to the community. I hope to see you there! 1 Presidents Corner

We are fortunate because of the work we do we are able to bring JOY to others- 3 Scheduling
many total strangers and in so doing take away even more for ourselves. I wish

The Gift Shop is ready for Christmas! The Buyers
have been very busy setting up displays and bringing
out holiday merchandise. Now that our WSC
meetings are held in the hospital there is every
reason to stop in after the meeting and find that
perfect gift for family, friends or yourself. And
remember, shop early for the very best choices.
The annual Christmas Luncheon hosted by
Waukesha Memorial Hospital is on Monday,
December 7. This coincides with our annual one-day
20% off sale. We look forward to seeing everyone at
the luncheon and in the Gift Shop doing your
Christmas shopping.
December is a very busy month in the Gift Shop.
Thank you to those who have signed up to be the 3rd
person on a shift during the busy holiday season.
The 3rd person helps with the wrapping, delivery of
flowers and/or gifts to patients, checking for items in
the storeroom, etc. If you did not sign up at the
November 2 meeting and would like to be a 3rd in the
Shop email or call me and let me know when you can
be of assistance.
WSC Thrift Shop

The new Thrift Shop is moved and open for
business. We are located at 1444 S. West Ave.,
formerly Sunset Video, right across the street from
the McDonalds. We have had our Grand Opening

on Tuesday, October 27 with people lined up at the
door to come in and all day hearing adjectives from
people such as beautiful, lovely, wonderful,
awesome, and more.
Our regular customers are impressed at the size of
the shop, knowing the size of the Shoppe on Grand.
Everyone wonders where we have stored all the
merchandise in the old shop, but now we have room
to spread out. The building is perfect with special
rooms for donations, pricing and storage. We are
very fortunate for this new space. The name on the
canopy outside is WSC Thrift Shop, just as it has
been for many years.
The proceeds from the Grand Opening Day are a
record at $1970, the most sold in any day with the
following days at $600 and $700. Donations of new
items to price are also at a record high. Thanks for
saving them for us during our down time.

After a sluggish summer sales we see our total
sales improving in September and October and we
hope for great numbers in November and December.
We have added two new young women Taylor
Belmer and Carol Koshick to our staff. Please say
hello to them when you see them working their shifts.
Mayor Nelson has come for a Ribbon Cutting
Ceremony and is interested to know more about the
Waukesha Service Club. I have sent him a brief
history and he is going to talk about it at a City
Council Meeting. It is nice he has come and given us
some free publicity.

We are always receiving compliments from our
customers about the Gift Shop. Thank you to the
Buyers who bring in just the right merchandise, to our
Display Staff who entice customers with the
awesome displays, and to all who work and give our
customers special treatment. Thanks to everyone
who volunteers to make the Gift Shop a great
success, which enables us to give fantastic
contributions to the Waukesha Memorial Hospital
Foundation. Have a wonderful Holiday Season.
Thank you, thank you, and thank you! The move
and set up has been quick with the store being closed
only one week. I cannot say that enough to all the
people who have donated money, come to help pack,
move, and set up the new store. It is amazing what
an army of people can do. The Waukesha Service
Club is a wonderful club with very special volunteers.
It is very exciting to have the new shop. I invite you
to come to visit.

Hello all. It is Charity Ball time again. Please mark your calendars for Saturday, December 5 when the Waukesha
Service Club presents "Holiday Ball" at Merrill Hills Country Club. Tickets are $100.00 per person. Members pay only
$50.00 because $50.00 of your dues goes to the price of the ticket. This year you have a choice of entrees including
baked tilapia, crusted with panko bread crumbs, almonds and orange zest, with mushrooms or herb roasted pork loin.
Invitations are mailed. If you have not received one, please contact Monica Hanley, 414-688-0014. Also, if you know
someone who would like to receive an invitation please let Monica know. We are hoping for a large turnout. This is great
way to kick of the Holiday Season and support the club. Any questions??? Please contact either Barb Rucci (262-542-

Scheduling Request Forms are to be sent out by email at the beginning of December with extra forms available at the
Hospital Luncheon. If you need a copy mailed to you, please send me a self-addressed stamped envelope by

December 1 All forms are due by January 4, 2010.

We again need to ask members to work extra dates. We are keeping track of those who have worked extra dates last
scheduling period and hopefully those who have worked extra dates last period are still able and willing to do so for this
scheduling period. (We will confirm your ability to work extra dates when you send in your Request Form.)

We have found that having four people to work on the first day of scheduling makes the process go much faster. I will

again be seeking one or two volunteers to help us on January 18 in the morning (including lunch). It is an easy job,
and you work with an experienced scheduler (more information to come later).

New Members
Jane Weber

New member news! An informational coffee has been held on Tuesday, November 10th, 9:30 a.m. at my home. Mary Lodes, voted
in at our September meeting, has attended the coffee and is now a dues paying member. Be sure to welcome her as she is introduced
around the shops in the coming months.

Three other prospective members have attended the coffee and are to be voted on at our January meeting, Georgene Bahr, Jean
McGoldrick and Christine March. They are all enthusiastic and hope to join our ranks for the next scheduling period.

Unfortunately, two new members voted in at the September meeting have elected not to join. Barb Richter has accepted a job
helping out a family business and Margaret Exner has decided to focus her volunteer efforts with an organization to which she
already belongs.

Finally, I am receiving more and more referrals of women who are customers of our shops and have expressed an interest in
joining WSC. I get these referrals by e-mail or phone call with somewhat limited information. Plus, technically they have no official
sponsor. To address this situation, a sub-committee of Mary Sue Eichtstaedt, Jean Coshun, Mary Fortier and myself has been formed
to develop a procedure for these referrals. In the interim, we want to make it clear that WSC is more than just an occasional couple
of hours at a shop. There are dues, schedule commitments and committee responsibilities and there is more than just the one shop
with which they may be familiar. If possible, when you talk to someone about our organization, you are also making an assessment
as to whether you are willing to sponsor the individual as a good fit for WSC. Our sub-committee hopes to bring a more formal
proposal to the January meeting.

Our next informational coffee is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, January 7,2010. Thanks for continuing to look for quality new
members for WSC!
