1. ENG: Chester Raccoon stood at the edge of the forest and cried.
ASL: CHESTER STOOD END FOREST CRY.
2. ENG: I dont want to go to school, he told his mother.
ASL: I DONT WANT GO SCHOOL.
3. ENG: I want to stay home with you.
ASL: I WANT-TO STAY HOME WITH YOU.
4. ENG: I want to play with my friends.
ASL: I WANT-TO PLAY MY FRIENDS.
5. ENG: And play with my toys.
ASL: PLAY MY T-O-Y-S.
6. ENG: And read my books.
ASL: READ MY BOOKS.
7. ENG: And swing on my swing.
ASL: SWING MY SWING.
8. ENG: Please may I stay home with you?
ASL: PLEASE, I STAY HOME?
9. ENG: Mrs. Raccoon took Chester by the hand and nuzzled him on
the ear.
ASL: MRS. RACCOON TOOK CHESTER HAND, NUZZLED EAR.
10. ENG: Sometimes we all have to do things we dont want to do,
she told him gently
ASL: SOMETIMES WE-ALL DO THINGS WE DONT WANT TO-DO.
11. ENG: Youll make new friends.
ASL: WILL YOU MAKE NEW FRIENDS.

12. ENG: And play with new toys.


ASL: PLAY WITH NEW TOYS.
13. ENG: Read new books.
ASL: READ NEW BOOKS.

ENG: And swing on new swings.

ASL: SWING-ON NEW SWINGS.

ASL: BESIDES.

ENG: I know a wonderful secret that will make your nights at

school seem as warm and cozy as your days at home.


ASL: WONDERFUL SECRET I KNOW YOUR NIGHTS WILL SEEM WARM
AND COZY SAME DAYS HOME.

ENG: Chester wiped away is tears and looked interested.

ASL: CHESTER TEARS WIPE AWAY, APPEARANCE HE INTERESTED HE.

ENG: A secret?

ASL: SECRET?
19. ENG: What kind of secret?
ASL: SECRET WHAT?
20. ENG: A very old secret, said Mrs. Raccoon.
ASL: SECRET VERY OLD.
21. ENG: I learned it from my mother, and she learned it from hers.
ASL: I LEARN I FROM MY MOTHER, SHE LEARN SHE FROM HER
MOTHER.
22. ENG: Its called the Kissing Hand.
ASL: IT CALLED KISSING HAND.
23. ENG: The Kissing Hand? asked Chester.
ASL: KISSING HAND?
24. ENG: Whats that?
ASL: WHAT?
25. ENG: Ill show you.
ASL: I SHOW YOU.

ENG: Mrs. Raccoon took Chesters left hand and spread open his

tiny fingers into a fan.


ASL: MRS. RACCOON TOOK CHESTER HAND, OPEN FINGERS.
27. ENG: Leaning forward, she kissed Chester right in the middle of
his palm.
ASL: SHE KISS CHESTER MIDDLE HIS HAND.

ENG: Chester felt his mothers kiss rush from his hand, up his

arm, and into his heart.


ASL: CHESTER FEEL MOTHER KISS FROM HAND, UP ARM, INTO
HEART.
29. ENG: Even his silky, black mask tingled with special warmth.
ASL: SMOOTH BLACK MASK TICKLED WARM.
30. ENG: Mrs. Raccoon smiled.
ASL: MRS. RACCOOM SMILE.
31. ENG: Now, she told Chester, whenever you feel lonely and
need a little loving from home, just press your hand to your cheek
and think Mommy loves you.
ASL: NOW, WHEN FEEL YOU LONELY, NEED LOVE FROM HOME,
PRESS HAND-TO CHEEK, THINK, MOMMY LOVE YOU.
32. ENG: Mommy loves you.
ASL: MOMMY LOVE YOU.
33. ENG: And that very kiss will jump to your face and fill you with
toasty warm thoughts.
ASL: THAT KISS GO-TO FACE, FILL-UP YOU THOUGHTS WARM.
34. ENG: She took Chesters hand and carefully wrapped his fingers
around the kiss.
ASL: SHE TOOK CHESTER HAND WRAP FINGER AROUND KISS.
35. ENG: Now, do be careful not to lose it, she teased him.
ASL: NOW, CAREFUL NOT LOSE IT.
36. ENG: But, dont worry.
ASL: DONT WORRY.
37. ENG: When you open your hand and wash your food, I promise
the kiss will stick.
ASL: PROMISE I, KISS STAY WHEN HAND OPEN AND WASH FOOD.
38. ENG: Chester loved his kissing hand.

ASL: CHESTER LOVE HIS KISSING HAND.


39. ENG: Now he knew his mothers love would go with him wherever
he went.
ASL: NOW HE KNOW MOTHER LOVE GO-WITH-HIM WHEREVER.
40. ENG: Even to school.
ASL: SAME SCHOOL
41. ENG: That night, Chester stood in front of his school and looked
thoughtful.
ASL: THAT NIGHT, CHESTER STAND FRONT-OF SCHOOL,
THOUGHTFUL LOOK.
42. ENG: Suddenly, he turned to his mother and grinned.
ASL: TURNED-TO MOTHER, AND SMILE.
43. ENG: Give me your hand, he told her.
ASL: GIVE-ME HAND.
44. ENG: Chester took his mothers hand in his own and unfolded her
large, familiar fingers into a fan.
ASL: CHESTER TOOK MOTHER HAND, UNFOLD FINGERS.
45. ENG: Next, he leaned forward and kissed the center of her hand.
ASL: NEXT HE KISS HAND.
46. ENG: Now you have a Kissing Hand, too, he told her.
ASL: NOW HAVE YOU KISSING HAND SAME.
47. ENG: And with a gentle Good-bye and I love you, Chester
turned and danced away.
ASL: GENTLE GOOD-BYE AND I LOVE YOU, CHESTER DANCE AWAY.
48. ENG: Mrs. Raccoon watched Chester scamper across a tree limb
and enter school.
ASL: MRS. RACCOON LOOK CHESTER RUN ACROSS TREE, ENTER
SCHOOL.
49. ENG: And as the hoot owl rang in the new school year, she
pressed her left hand to her cheek and smiled.
ASL: SHE PUT HAND-ON CHEEK, SMILE, OWL RANG NEW SCHOOL
YEAR.
50. ENG: The warmth of Chesters kiss filled her heart with special
words
ASL: CHESTER WARM KISS FILL HER WITH SPECIAL WORDS.
51. ENG: Chester loves you, it sang.

ASL: CHESTER LOVE YOU.


52. ENG: Chester loves you.
ASL: CHESTER LOVE YOU.
53. ENG: I LOVE YOU.
ASL: I LOVE YOU.
