Job Overview:

The Radio Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient and effective operation
of all the communications equipment on board. His principal responsibility is to
operate and maintain the equipment that would be used for emergency reporting
to the highest standards.

Duties and
Responsibilities*:

Ensure your own personal safety and that of your work colleagues;

Understand and adhere to Awilco Drillings policies, standards and


procedures relating to yourself and others, the practice of which shall be
considered a condition of employment/contract;

Report all accidents, incidents and near-misses that could impact on safety,
the environment, cause damage to assets, and/or Awilco Drillings
reputation.

Ensure that all hazards and risks associated with performing tasks are
identified, and that steps are taken to eliminate the hazards or adequately
control the risks.

The duties and responsibilities to be carried out will be varied, these will
include but not be limited to the following:

Operate radio and other associated communications equipment.

Monitor the marine frequencies for pertinent transmissions.

Transcribe and file radio traffic messages and telexes.

Assist with the maintenance of V.H.S. equipment, antenna systems, spare


parts inventory, emergency batteries, lifeboat radios and public address
system.

Maintain a log of communications to and from the drilling unit.

Maintain an arrival / departure log of transportation to and from the rig.


This includes all helicopter and boat movements.

Responsible for co-coordinating transportation and providing information


on weather conditions to shore base as required.

Education/
Experience/Skills:

Liaise with Helicopter Landing Officer reference helicopter movements.

Ensure compliance with requirements for radios and other communication


equipment during periods of radio silence.

Maintain area of work in a clean and orderly manner, free of hazards.

Participate in Safety meetings.

Attend on board training meetings.

Attend shore-based training schools as directed by the Company.

Complete, as directed, any required paperwork.

Must represent the Company in a professional manner both on and off the
job to include confidentiality of Company and Client business.

Perform any other duties, which may be directed by his supervisor.

Essential:

Valid OGUK Medical;

Valid OPITO approved BOSIET/Offshore Survival Certificate;

GOC Certificate (GMDSS)

New hires will preferably possess current work experience as a Radio


Operator within marine industry.
Preferred:

Meteorological Observation Certificate
