We educate the society for many reasons to improve the health and make people free from the
consequences of ill effects of many preventable reasons. As we have done and succeed in Adult
health education and Sex education today the Modern medical system is well advanced and most of
us are dependent on the benefits of the scientific progress in Antibiotics. The discovery of antibiotics
in the early 20th century fundamentally transformed medicine; antibiotics now save millions of lives
each year in around the world. Yet bacteria repeatedly exposed to the same antibiotics can become
resistant to even the most potent drugs. These so-called antibiotic-resistant bacteria can present a
serious threat to public health, national security, and the economy. We the medically educated and
competent teachers have a role to educate the society on ill effects of many antibiotics we use with
ignorance, and overuse with many selfish interests the consequence will be SUPERBUGS AND
UNTIMELY DEATHS. Over the next 35 years, multi drug-resistant tuberculosis will kill 75 million
people left untackled, the spread of drug-resistant TB super bugs threatens to shrink the world
economy by 0.63% annually, Multi drug-resistant TB fails to respond to at least isoniazid and
rifampicin, the two most powerful anti-TB drugs, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
We need better tools to deal with this new threat, but since TB primarily affects the poorest and
most vulnerable in society, there is little commercial incentive to develop new drugs. It is just not
tuberculosis in future there will be few Antibiotics to cure, Use and overuse of these drugs, however,
have contributed to a phenomenon known as antibiotic resistance. This resistance develops when
potentially harmful bacteria change in a way that reduces or eliminates the effectiveness of
antibiotics. And already our Microbiology laboratories are going on unscientific ways many Normal
flora are reported as pathogens, and majority of inexperienced report Normal flora as pathogens
and the ill knowledged Doctors follow the wrong results truthfully and create the super bugs. I find
that mere education of doctors may not serve the purpose as many patients indulge in use of selfmedication and a country like India the Chemists are real practitioners to many diseases treat the
public with suboptimal, inappropriate antibiotics. Till yesterday we thought the antibiotics are magic
bullets, however they are biting back. Why are antibiotics not being used properly? Misuse of
antibiotics occurs because many of us believe antibiotics will make us better whenever we are sick.
The public often expects or demands antibiotics for every sneeze that comes along. Studies have
shown that patients will drop a physician if they don't get an antibiotic they believe they need.
Pressured by patients, doctors often write prescriptions for patients. According to the Centers for
Disease Control between 20 and 50 percent of the antibiotics prescribed each year are unnecessary.
India continues to be biggest market for sale of Antibiotics so everyone making a benefit and
patients are losing and becoming source of Drug resistant strains. However it is Time we can make
our own awareness programs what can happen when we misuse Antibiotics
A TIME TO THINK?
