Purpose :
The purpose of Project Eduvid is to create a eco-system where student/learner will be able to
create and share Home lectures, Classroom lectures, Seminars lectures via Slidecasting and
other technique. Something similar to Wikipedia. Wikipedia do it for text/articles, Eduvid aims
for digital contents with text, images, audio and video and animation.
Goals :
The goal is to re-form education in third world countries and developing nations which still do
not have proper education.
The goal is to take benefit from tremendous creativity and knowledge of students/teachers
and share among other students. We need not to find good teacher to educate students. All we
need to find good students and empower them with Eduvid Platform so that they can
easily create and share and modify educational contents
The Goal is to remove/reduce barriers in creating and sharing and modifying educational
contents
The Barriers :
With current technology (Video Sharing over Internet Ex youtube) one can create and share
Educational Videos over Youtube. But the fundamental question is how many teachers/students
are creating content ?
Take example of CBSE Math. There must be more then 1000 students who secured more then
90 marks out of 100 in CBSE. They all know Math very well. If we combine energy of these
1000 students then we can create great mathematical learning resource for fellow students or
junior students. Imagine Junior students are doing same. They will improve the learning
resources and this will create a eco-system of learning community. This is theoretically
possible but not the current practice.
What resist our students/teachers or ourselves to create or participate is such global viral and
collaborative eco-system ?
Answer Time and Technology. Students/Teachers do not have extra time and good technology.
For example If a student/teacher want to create a video OR record a seminar then he first need
a good camera. Normal public do not know how to edit videos and it need lots of time. If they
do mistake then they have to fully re-record videos from beginning. Youtube just allow 10
minute video. If video length is about 30 minute then size will vary from 200 MB to 400 MB
which is very difficult to upload. Normal Internet connection do not have much lower Upload
bandwidth. Also watching videos over Internet is not possible all across India. Why student
will WASTE 1 full day to teach a virtual friend a concept which he/she can teach it in 10
minute to his friend who is physical available.
So I have Identified the problem.
We need to use new type of digital educational contents other then videos. Which is

easy to create so that create need not to waste his full day. Easy creation makes fun in
life.
New type of media must be easy to share.

So we need to follow which are easy to create and easy to share

New Type of Content/Media :
At Eduvid I have proposed to use new type of contents. But before that we need to know about
size ratio in contents. Text or Images takes 10 - 50 times smaller size audio. Audio takes 10-15
times smaller then videos.

Slide-casting or Picture-Story :
Imagine a teacher want to give create a educational content on cow for teaching about
Cow for students of age 7. He has a computer and lots of photos related to cow. He can
create create Sideshow (normally known as ppt). With the help of new software he can
present this slideshow in classroom. This software will record audio of teacher and
slides. The will save lecture in new file with .eduvid extension. This .eduvid format will
contain audio and slides inside it.
The generated file will be 10 times smaller in size then video. There is no need no have a
Camera or Post-Production in it. All you need a Computer and Software to do it. It will
be easy to upload and download and share it. Even without downloading it, one will be
able to watch it over Internet. Mobile Apps and player will be there to watch and share
over mobile platform.
Project Eduvid want funding for creating this magical software aka slidecastingrecorder and its platforms. I have already implemented its demo

vary initial version of this software. I have just traveled 4% of road in last 2 year by
walking all alone. I need funding to complete it.
I will write in detailed technical description on slidecasting-recorder later.

Whiteboard Recorder
Almost every school or college use black/whiteboard with or without computer
connected projector.
It is possible to record/capture anything on whiteboard using SVG format. Size of SVG
files are 500-1000 times smaller then corresponding video. Only problem with SVG that
it will not capture teacher/speaker. It will only capture what is written on Whiteboard.
But this is OK. Another problem with SVG that it need a digital whiteboard. Digital
White-board can be created using projector and IR Cameras.
I have already developed demo version of SVG White-board Recorder.

Currently it only record what is there on white-board and play it. I am trying add Audio
recording capabilities in it. SVG White-board Recorder will save lecture in new file
with .eduvid extension. This .eduvid format will contain audio and SVG inside it.

Computer Screen-casting
Screen-casting is a technique for recording/capturing computer screen. You do not need
any camera. There are many software available (Ex - recordmydesktop ) which can
record activity on computer screen in Video format. This kind of video can be 2-5 times
smaller then normal video.
We need funding to integrate software like 'rerordmydesktop' in our platform.

So we have seen 3 types of educational contents. We need to understand the benefits of

.eduvid format and what exactly this is.
The Eduvid Format and Advantages
You cannot extract slides/ppt from a video lecture. In Video, all components are merged into
single entity. Modification is very difficult.
Eduvid file format is un-bundled format. Eduvid file contains all SVG, subtitles, Audio, Video,
Slideshow etc in its native format. So anytime you can extract anything or modify or replace.
Because of the above advantage, on-line watching can be bandwidth adoptive. For example,
Student of lower bandwidth connection can 'turn-off' video part to receive only Slideshow/ppt
and audio part. This not possible with current video-streaming technology.
Due to un-bundled file format, one can easily correct/modify slideshow/ppt.
We can re-create multi-lingual content very easily. For example If there is a picture-story Or
Slide-casting on Tiger or Panchayat election in Hindi language then one can replace its audio
part with a Tamil equivalent audio to create Tamil version.
Also it is possible to have per slide audio. 'per slide audio' means every slide can contains a
separate audio file. Which makes life easy re-using or modifying the content because you can
just replace exact audio part on particular slide which need modification or replacement.
It is also possible to build Wikipedia type of collaborative learning and sharing platform for
Eduvid kind of media.
