VENTED LEAD ACID BAT TERY

Applications
OGi batteries are used in a great variety of applications:
In power stations
In transformer plants
The OGi product range provides

In signalling and control systems

different capacities and

In starting diesel generators

numerous accessories such

In railway signalling centres

as AquaGen.

Product features
Performance
OGi batteries cover a capacity range of 200 - 3500 Ah in accordance with
DIN 40739.
Electrodes
The electrodes of the OGi batteries consist of positive and negative grid plates. The
use of lead alloys with an antimony content of less than 2% gives the grids good
mechanical strength and corrosion resistance. The low antimony content reduces
water decomposition during float charging, as compared to alloys with a high antimony
content.
Separators
Microporous plastic separators are used to separate the electrodes. This results in a
very low electrical resistance while permitting good diffusion of the acid and protects
against material growth on the electrodes. The separators overlap the plates on all
sides, thus preventing short circuits.
Pole bushing
The pole bushings are gas-tight to avoid any electrolyte leakage for the batterys entire
service life and fulfil the requirements under DIN 40729.
The individual OGi cells are
connected with fully insulated
cell connectors.

Cell connectors
The OGi cells are connected to each other by fully insulated welded or screw connectors. Welded connectors with copper inserts can be provided on request.
Electrolyte
The electrolyte comprises dilute sulphuric acid with a rated density of 1.24 kg/I at
20C. The cells are delivered in a filled and charged state. For sea or air transport
delivery in a dry, charged condition is recommended. After filling with electrolyte the
batteries are ready for immediate use.

Containers
The battery containers are made of transparent SAN plastic which makes it easy to
check the electrolyte level. Container and lid are bonded together to prevent gas and
electrolyte escaping.
Vent plugs
OGi batteries are always supplied with labyrinth vent plugs. These prevent the escape
of electrolyte droplets.

Attributes
With continuous battery power supply and float charge with occasional discharges and
an operating temperature of 20C a service life of 12 to 15 years can be reached. At
rated operating conditions OGi bloc batteries need no maintenance for 3 - 5 years. An

For exact dimensions see table

additional distinguishing feature is the batterys easy assembly.

on back page.

Charging
In practice continuous battery power supply has become generally accepted for
standby power operation. Using this method of charging the battery can be charged
at either 2.23 V/cell or 2.4 V/cell for quick recharging followed by a switch to
2.23 V/
cell. A complete recharge is also possible at a voltage of 2.23 V/cell.
A charging current limit is not necessary up to a charging voltage of 2.4 V/cell. The
battery room ventilation corresponds to EN 50 272-2/DIN VDE 0510 part 2.

Advantages
Tried and tested for over 20 years
High endurance at peak current
Long service life in stand-by operation
Corrosion-resistant pole bushing

Hoppeckes system terminals are

Recycling of old battery installations

the area.

Lead and NC battery installations are recycled in Germany by Hoppecke according to

the corresponding environmental protection requirements.
