INTRODUCTIONTOTHEEMARKETPLACE
AbouttheeMarketplace
TheeMarketplaceprovidesamechanismtodisplayandsellitemstousers.ItappearsasaTabtousers.
Productsareorganizedintonestedcategoriesandtheentirelistofproductsissearchable.Productscanincludehard
goods,services,evenenrollmentinCoursesandOrganizations.TheeMarketplaceisfullyintegratedwiththeBlackboard
AcademicSuite.Inadditiontoenrollments,sometypicalservicesthatmaybeofferedforpurchaseincludetranscripts,
ticketstoevents,orevenparkinganddiningservices.
Users access the store through the eMarketplace tab. Users are able to make purchases using a credit card or their
CampusCard.TheeMarketplacedeploysfraudprotectionrulesforcreditcardpurchasesthroughthepaymentgateway.

PurchasingProcess
ThestepsbelowoutlinethepurchasingprocesswhenusingaCampusCard:
1. UserlogsinandaccessestheeMarketplacetab.
2. Theuserselectsproductsforpurchase.Selecteditemsareplacedintheshoppingcart.
3. The user checks out and provides payment information. If a Campus Card is used for purchase, availability of
fundsisconfirmed.Fundsarenotdebiteduntiltheorderisfulfilled.
4. AnotificationemailissenttotheVendor.
5. TheVendorfulfillstheorderbysendingtheproductstotheuserandbyindicatingintheManageOrderspagethat
theorderisfulfilled.Atthistime,thepostauthorizationtakesplace.
6. Oncetheorderisfulfilled,theinstitutionpaystheVendorwithfundsfromthemerchantbank.
7. The transaction is reconciled by comparing a report on fulfilled orders, a report from the Transaction System
regardingdebitsanddepositsfromCampusCardaccounts,andthestatementfromthemerchantbank.
Thestepsbelowoutlinethepurchasingprocesswhenusingacreditcard:
1. UserlogsinandaccessestheeMarketplacetab.
2. Theuserselectsproductsforpurchase.Selecteditemsareplacedintheshoppingcart.
3. The user checks out and provides payment information. If a credit card is used for purchase, the Payment
Gateway first preauthorizes the payment. Preauthorization confirms that the purchase will be paid for by the
issuingbankorcreditcardcompany.
4. AnotificationemailissenttotheVendor.
5. TheVendorfulfillstheorderbysendingtheproductstotheuser.
6. Oncetheorderisfulfilled,thepurchaseisauthorized.Fundsaredepositedwiththemerchantbank.Theinstitution
paystheVendorwithfundsfromthemerchantbank.
7. Thetransactionisreconciledbycomparingareportonfulfilledorders,areportfromthePaymentGateway,and
thestatementfromthemerchantbank.

PurchasingItemsandServices
EachavailableitemintheeMarketplacehasanAddtoCartbutton.Someitemsalsorequiretheusertoenteradditional
information.Forexample,theusermayneedtoenterasizeandcolorifpurchasingatshirtfromthestore.Whenauser
decidestopurchaseaproduct,theymustfirstenteranyrequiredinformationandthenclicktheAddtoCartbutton.The
itemisthenaddedtotheShoppingCart,anabbreviatedversionofwhichisdisplayedintheleft,menucolumnofthe
eMarketplace.
Whentheuserhasselectedalloftheitemsforpurchase,theusermustclicktheCheckoutbuttoninthemenucolumn
ShoppingCart.ThiswilldirecttheusertothefullShoppingCartpage.Onthispage,theusercanupdatethequantitiesof
each item, remove items from the cart, continue shopping, or proceed to the Checkout screen. The user enters their
billinginformationontheCheckoutpage.OnceCheckoutiscompleted,theusermayviewandconfirmtheirorderdetails
onelasttimeontheOrderConfirmationpage,whichalsoincludesthesalestax,ifapplicable.Oncethefinalconfirmation

takesplace,apreauthorizationtransactionisinitiated.IftheuserscreditcardorCampusCardaccounthassufficient
fundsforthetransaction,theorderisplacedandtheuserreceivesaconfirmationemailfortheorder.Theorderisthen
readyforprocessing.

ProcessingOrders
WhenauserplacesanorderintheeMarketplace,theorderisautomaticallydividedupintomultipleordersbyVendorof
eachproductandbyproducttype.
Courseandorganizationproductsareautomaticallyfulfilledwhentheorderisplaced,soalloftheseproductswithinthe
purchaseareseparatedintooneorder.Thepaymentforthisorderisprocessedimmediately.Ifthetransferoffundsis
successful,theuserisautomaticallyenrolledineachofthecoursesandorganizationswithintheorder.
Other types of products require manual fulfillment by either a Vendor or an eMarketplace Admin. All of these product
typeswithintheorderaredividedupbyVendor.Thisisdonetoensurethateachvendorcanseeandaccessordersfor
theirproductsonly.Whentheorderisplaced,apreauthorizationtransactiontakesplace.Thisensuresthatthefundsare
availableforthepurchase.Ifacreditcardisbeingused,atemporaryfreezeisplacedonthepreauthorizedfunds.
Vendors will check their orders on a regular basis and receive email notification of each order. When one of their
productsisordered,itwillappearintheOrderspageaccessiblebytheVendorfromanypageintheactualmarketplace.
TheVendorwillclickontheProcessbuttonfortheordertoviewalloftheitemsincludedintheorder.Eachitemwillhave
aFulfillbutton.
ThereisalsoaCancelbuttonforeachitem.Whentheitemiscancelled,ifitisthelastitemremainingintheorder,the
postauthorizationtakesplaceatthattime.Ifthereareremainingitemstobefulfilled,thentheitemismarkedascancelled
andtherestoftheorderremainsopen.
Wheneachpurchaseditemisreadyforshipment,theVendorwillclickFulfill.Whenthelastitemintheorderisfulfilled,a
postauthorizationtransactionwillbeinitiated.Ifthistransactionissuccessful,theVendorwillreceiveasuccessreceipt.
Otherwise,theVendorwillreceiveafailurereceipt.Also,theuserwhoplacedtheorderwillreceiveanemailnotification
thattheorderhasbeenfulfilled.Sinceitispossibleforapostauthorizationtransactiontofail,Vendorsshouldnotship
orderitemsuntilasuccessfulpostauthorizationhastakenplace.
