Description:
In this full day training, we will define
traumatic experiences related to
abuse and neglect, and discuss how
the meaning that clients attach to
their trauma profoundly affects the
long-term impact. We will also explore the pivotal role that secure versus disorganized attachment patterns have in a family-of-origin and
make connections between dysfunctional attachment styles and clients
subsequent inabilities to self-soothe
or regulate emotional states in adulthood. Participants will then be introduced to a number of creative treatment strategies designed to help
traumatized adults develop affect
regulation skills. These strategies
will help to promote grounding, containment, self-soothing and
emotional stabilization.
1-Describe the long-term impact that traumatic experiences have when negative or personalized meaning is attached to the narrative.
2-Describe the factors that mitigate traumatic
events and move clients towards positive reframes and healing.
3-Explain the connection between
disorganized attachment patterns and affect
dysregulation in adults.
4-Identify and implement at least four treatment strategies designed to teach traumatized
clients how to modulate emotional arousal,
and help with containment and self-soothing.
