Good Morning,
I thank you for making your way this morning to this event. I am very
pleased to join you today as we usher in the Connected East Africa
Summit 2015.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Connected Summit has grown tremendously over the past years to now
become a signature event every year.
As the Board of the ICT Authority, we have been consistently working
with partners from the public and private sector to ensure that we
develop Kenya as a globally competitive and prosperous nation through
ICT. Crucial to this has been the conclusion of setting up the Authority
after the consolidation of the Kenya ICT Board, Directorate of EGovernment and the Government Information and Technology Services in
2013.
I am glad to report that our Strategic Plan is ready and we will be
focusing on 4 key areas namely; Shared Services, Human Capital
Development, ICT Innovation & Enterprise and Information Security.
With this, we are committed to realizing Kenyas vision of a knowledgebased economy. Subsequently, there have been design and creation of
programmes essential to ICT innovation, adoption and adaptation, which
are crucial for economic growth.
Some of the areas that we have worked on are in upgrading ICT capacity
through a series of PPP skill development projects with such companies as
Huawei Technologies Seeds for the Future an engineering students
internship programme, SAP Skills for Africa that prepares young graduates
with both ICT technical soft and technical skills. Most recently we
pioneered a program named Presidential Digital Talent that is skilling
recent ICT graduates by matching them with internship opportunities in
government and private institutions.

Ladies and gentlemen,

Last year, we launched the National ICT Masterplan 2017, which is our
roadmap and guide for all our activities.
I am glad to report that we are on course to realising what we have set
out to do. In early March we held the 1st National Innovation Forum,
which culminated to the creation of Enterprise Kenya. This entity will
drive engagements with relevant government agencies and push for local
content and businesses. Through the entity we plan to catalyze startup
businesses to the global arena.
To grow our successes, we believe we can do much better through a
regional approach to achieving our mandate. Accordingly, we are
committed to cultivate and build strong links with government organs,
private sector and academia across the region. We see Connected East
Africa Summit as very pertinent in helping us to achieve our goal.
We welcome you to Kenya, and in particular Diani and look forward to
fruitful deliberations, collaborations and networking.
