Brochure
Description:

A trifold tabletop menu with business card inside for the Japanese
restaurant WINGU

Date:

Course/Instructor:

Cory Kerr

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Illustrator
Adobe Photoshop

Objectives:

Size and optimize an original logo as a .png for a web page.

Write content to describe the process of creating your logo and how
it appeals to a target audience.
Design a web page using HTML to display a logo and content.
Acquire a working knowledge of HTML and basic
understanding of CSS.
Identify hex colors for web design.
Compress multiple files in a zipped folder to attach as one file.

Process:

I started by making my brochure match my business card so, I

designed accordingly. I knew my design was going to have a total
of four pages, but I didnt want to shrink it smaller that it should be
on an 811.5 so I set it up to print on tabloid mode in illustrator. I
then divided equally by four on two pages. I thing created using the
shape building tools, added my text and saved areas for my pictures.
I resized all the pictures that I downloaded to fit in their areas. I
also created vector drinks in illustrator because I wanted them to
match and not differentiate much. I tried importing everything into
InDesign but it just didnt work out so I created my wrap text using
the direct selection tool on my textbox.

Objectives:

Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image.

Design consistent layouts for a business card.
Use the basic tools of Illustrator & InDesign.

Process:

Using illustrator, I created a logo, then I copied the logo into three separate
artboards, one at 8.5 x 11in, and two at 3.5 x 2in. When I started creating
my design for my letterhead and business card I moved my logo to the side.
In the front I used my logo and reshaped around the card to make a design.
I then freed it up with a white rectangle so it would have open white space
instead of trapped. I then cleaned it off with a clipping mask. For the back, I
created the design from parts of the logo, then deleted some specific parts
of it to make room for the information. I then finished it by incorporating a
QR code.

moved my logo to the side. I then played around with the shapes
builder tool and structure the main frame design of the letterhead.
Once it looked like a letterhead and all the information was in, I
incorporated my logo once in the top and one stretched to be a
centerpiece. I reduced opacity of the centerpiece so it could be
possible to write on. I also added a little accent on the bottom to give
it a little depth.

Using Photoshop editing skills to layer and blending pictures

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Photoshop

Objectives:

Learn to manage Photoshop layers.

Learn to blend images together smoothly, using masks.
Use filters.
Apply appropriate typography.

Process:

In working in the process of my design, I first thought of a spiritual

or enlightening message and picture in my head. I then sketched it.
When working with photoshop with an 8.5x11in I didnt think that
the concept worked, so I readjusted it. I grabbed multiple pictures,
resized them, and arranged to the way I wanted them and then set
them to appropriate layers. After that, I made a mask for every layer
and started to use the brush tool in gray in between every image. I
mostly just played around with the brush tool and the opacity levels
of every image. I finished off my selecting my text to appropriate
fonts and coordinate to align in certain areas.

Objectives:

Find, scan and import a high-quality image.

Create a full-bleed design
Use text boxes for layout in Word.
Insert and edit images in Word.

Process:

I started to scan a picture of an object is had. I then made a sketch

of how the design would be. On this project, we were told to use
Microsoft Word. I added the scanned image to the program. I copied
the mage, changed opacity of it on Word, enlarged it, and put it to
the background. I also readjusted a lot the images and text boxes
to align as much as possible. I then tried to use fonts and contrasted
them with sizes and between font-face.

Program(s)/Tools:

Objectives:

Create a variety of logos to fit a company or personal image.

Use the basic tools of Illustrator.

Process:

For the first two logos, I looked up some images of cranes. While
looking at them , I used the pen tool from adobe illustrator to sketch
the the main bodies of the birds. Then, I added shapes to where is
appropriate and adjusted using the convert anchor tool to make it fit
with the design. For the third logo and after, I sketched out the logo
in my notebook, then uploaded it, then created circles to fit into my
sketch. For all of the logos, I added colors that were gave a bold look
but still clean as well as colors from other sushi logos to my designs.
After that I researched a lot of Japanese fonts and picked my font
because it looked well with the name.

Design a web page using HTML to display a logo and content.
Acquire a working knowledge of HTML and basic understanding

Identify hex colors for web design.
Compress multiple files in a zipped folder to attach as one file.

Process:

I created this web page using the program Coda. Having a current
class on web design, really helped me implement the techniques
of HTML/CSS for this project. I created a new HTML and CSS file
and added them to my project. First, I set the HTML syntax and add
my information text into the body. Then, I incorporated the images
and hyperlinks by enabling them to the code. I made sure all my
pictures were saved for web. Once I got through the body, I made
sure everything was correct from the title to the heading to the main
and to the footer and all content work and was fine. Coda enables
you preview your web page in-app if set in HTML. It also has a
validator checker built-in it as well. Once validated, I started on CSS
and got to colors I wanted to use as well as layout and sizes. Once
everything was complete I opened HTML file into Chrome and took a
screenshot and saved as a jpeg.

Adobe Photoshop

Objectives:

Learn basic photography skills.

Use a digital camera to take a quality image, then download it.
Size and crop the image.
Adjust image brightness, contrast, hue and saturation levels.
Use a selection tool to isolate a portion of the image.
Desaturate the selected portion of the image.
Use a filter or colorize a portion of the image.

Process:

After selecting a picture I had taken under selective design principles

and the tetradic color scheme, I used the four basic Photoshop
techniques of levels, sharpness, saturation, and color balance to
better improve the quality of the colors of the image. I then arranged
and shrunk the image, but enough for it to remain the a good amount
of visual weight. After that, I incorporated a repeating elements, I
created a flowing rhythm of shapes. I used hexagons because they
give a honeycomb organized feel of togetherness. I then included
one of my favorite quotes as well as the color swatches from the
color scheme that I used.

Purple, Green, Red, Yellow

Objectives:

Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography.

Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout.
Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign document to
keep links intact.

Process:

Starting this design, I first made some sketches of that a regular flier
would look like. I then incorporated geometric shapes I used in my
graphic design class and I eventually got a final sketch of it. After
the sketches, I used Adobe InDesign to recreate the flier. It took
time rearrange items to make the piece well contrasted. In trying to
get more emphasis on the copy text I just bold the first letter and
increase its font size.
