Montage
Description:

An insperational montage made by the blending of two or more images, and

the use of typography.

Date:

2/14/2015

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 13
Julie Peterson

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Photoshop

Objectives:

Learn to manage Photoshop layers.

Learn to blend images together smoothly, using masks.
Use filters.
Apply appropriate typography.

Process:

The clock itself on the picture was the perfect size but I didt have a full 8.5 x
11 so I extended the background.
When I was working on the family picture, I selected the family picture using
the lasso tool then inversed the selection and applied Gaussian blur to it.
When still on the family picture I selected it and move it to the clock picture
which is my background image, then I added a mask.
With black paint and a 100% opacity, soft-edged brush, I painted away the
hard image edges. With a larger black brush at 30% opacity and 100% flow, I
blended the family image into the background image.
I added the message to the background and I use font size and height for
contrast and emphasis.

Brochure
Description:

A two sided (duplex) folding brochure.

Date:

3/29/15

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 13
Julie Peterson

Program(s)/Tools:

Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, AdobeIndesign

Objectives:

Set up and align a two-sided, folded document.

Create an original, new logo and use it in a brochure.
Incorporate quality images. Incorporate at least four quality images, not
including the logo.
Apply text wrap.

Process:

To begin the this whole design involved so much drawing on a piece of paper
first. After my idea was set, then I use design software.
I worked with my logo in Adobe Illustrator. After my logo was done and I
opened adobe Indesign and worked on my layout. I had already decided on
how I wanted my brochure to be display three fold. I inserted boxes of texts
and pictures first, then I picked my color.
To match the color of my images with my color scheme, I used the selection
and the color adjustment tool in Photoshop. I also used layer mask in
Photoshop to cut out around the picture to apply text wrap later.
Logo and Images and text are ready to be inserted into the layout. I selected
each box and placed each element inside.
I used the petal shape around my design to create unity, and used different
sizes of it to create variety. I also used different font size and applied
different color on the shape to create contrast.

Program(s)/Tools:

Adobe Photoshop, Canon Camera

Objectives:

Learn basic photography skills.

Choose a color scheme, take a photo to match those colors, then incorporate
the colors into the layout.
Use a digital camera to take a quality image, then download it.
Adjust image levels, saturation, color balance, sharpen tool on separate
layers for NDE (non-destructive editing.)
Size and crop the image, then place on an 8.511 page layout.
Use layers to design text, and repeating graphic elements in Photoshop.
Print with full-bleed margins. Trim only 1/8 (0.125) from all four sides.

Process:

First, I gathered ideas like what message I wanted to send? And who is my
audiences?
Based on that I formulated my plan, first I chose a color scheme that I wanted
to use for my design, I decided to go with analagous for my color scheme.
Second I dressed my model based on the color scheme I chose so I dont
have to do lots of editing, I took several pictures in different lighting, I have to
say that working with a 3 year old was quite a challenge.
Finally I brought the picture to Photoshop for basic editing then I added text,
background color, and some elements to create a gestalt on my design.

Flier
Description:

Black & White promotional flier to promote a graduate leadership conference.

Date:

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 13
Julie Peterson

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe InDesign

Objectives:

Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography. Incorporate basic
InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout.

Process:

I first created some sketches of my layout. Then I used my sketch as a guide

to create this layout in Adobe InDesign.
I used black boxes for repetition and contrast. I also emphasized one word
in my title for more contrast, and to create a good focal point. I left white
space and kept my body copy small. I was given the image, logo, and content
for this flier.

Web Page

Program(s)/Tools:

Notepad++, Color Zilla a Google Color extension

Objectives:

Size and optimize an original logo as a .png for a web page.

Write content to describe the process of creating the logo and how it appeals
to a target audience.
Design a web page using HTML to display a logo and content.
Acquire a working knowledge of HTML and basic understanding of CSS.
Identify hex colors for web design.
Compress multiple files in a zipped folder to attach as one file.

Process:

I created this web page using only notepad++.This wasnt the first time I
worked on Html and CSS so this class project was fun for me. After I was done
working on the content of my HTML, I created a CSS file that will beautify my
webpage. Then I attached it to my HTML file.
To find the right color for the background and the text box to match with the
logo, I used colorzilla a Google eyedropper extension tool.
Finally everything looked good, the last thing I did was to check if I had
any problem with my code, so I used http://www.W3.org to validate my
HTML 5 and CSS3.

Logos

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Illustrator

Objectives:

Create a variety of logos to fit a company or personal image.

Use the basic tools of Illustrator.

Process:

I had so much fun with this project. To begin as usual, I sketched

on a paper ideas that would connect with the message. Then I
opened Adobe illustrator to bring my ideas to life.
In illustrator I used the pen tool, the mesh tool, the shape tool and
the gradient tool mostly. After I finished my drafts I had people take
surveys and see which one they
prefer the most.
After the evaluation, I designed more logos that fit feedback I had
received, I applied more contrast on the type and used 3 different
color schemes. Programs/Tools Used: Adobe Illustrator

Program(s)/Tools:

Microsoft Word, Hp Scanner, PDF2JPG.net (PDF converter)

Objectives:

Find, scan and import a high-quality image.

Create a full-bleed design.
Use text boxes for layout in Word.
Insert and edit images in Word.

Process:

I scanned the bread image from a recipe book by Rachel Ray, when scanning
I made sure that the resolution was 300PPI so I would have better image
quality if I need to extend the image.
Next I inserted the image in word, then deleted the background using
the remove background tool. Then I added circles with different size for
repetition and grouping.
I chose two fonts with contrasting weights for simplicity. At beginning it
was hard for me to figure out how to take the background out and working
on the typography logo without cheating using Photoshop. Then everything
went smooth when I install Microsft 2013 on my computer wich has lots of
upgraded features from what I had in Microsof 2007.
