1. Meaning of Recruitment:
Recruitment is the process of finding and attracting capable applicants for employment.
The process begins when new recruits are sought and end when their applicants are
submitted. The result is a pool of applicants from which new employees are selected.
According to Decenzo and Robbins, Recruitment is a matching process of discovering
potential candidates for actual or anticipated organizational vacancies or from another
perspective, it is a linking activity binging together those with jobs and to fill and those
seeking jobs.

According to John Douglas, Recruitment is understood as the process of searching for
and obtaining applicants for jobs, from among whom the right people can be selected.

So the process begins when new recruitment is sought and ends when their applications
are submitted. The result is pool of qualified application from which new employees are
selected.
2. Factors affecting recruitment:
There are many factors affecting recruitment. These factors may be considered into two
broad groups- Internal factors, External factors.

There are basically two types of sources from where potential employees can be drawn
their new employees. These are internal sources and external sources.
The most widely used channels by applicants and recruiters are---- Private placement agencies,
Advertising, Agencies,
Professional or executive search Firms,
Labor Union,
Educational Institutions,
Agencies
Professional Associations,
Voluntary organization, and
Walk-ins and Write-ins,
State employment
5. Meaning of Selection:
Selection is the process of gathering information for the purposes of evaluating and
deciding who should be employed in particular jobs. It is the technique of choosing a new
member of organization from the available candidates.
According to Dale Yoder, Selection as a process by which candidates are divided into
class- those who will be offered employment and those who will not.
According to Blare, Selection is the process of choosing from among available
applicants the individuals where are most likely to successfully open for a job.
According to Decenzo and Robbins, Selection is a continuous process which consists of
the following eight steps:
i. Initial screening in interview
v. Background investigation
ii. Completing the application form
vi. A conditional job offer
iii. Employment test
vii. Medical or physical examination
iv. Comprehensive interview
viii. The permanent job offer
6. Selection Process:
The selection process is a series of steps through which applicant pass. If anyone fails to
qualify for a particular step is not eligible for appearing for the next step. It is decision
process which involves in the following steps:

4. Employment tests
5. Interview

7. Medical examination
