HW #2 includes the following problems in the textbook

Problem 3.3: Hand calculation

Problem 3.9: Perform both hand analysis and computer analysis using the code FEM1D
provided by the textbook;
Problem 3.11: Perform both hand analysis and computer analysis using FEM1D;
Problem 3.12: Perform computer analysis using FEM1D;
Problem 3.19: Perform hand calculation for element stiffness matrix for Fig. P3.19a only;
Problem 3.23: Perform computer analysis using FEM1D

Your results should include the following for every problem requiring computer analysis

Finite Element Model including a figure showing Element IDs and Node IDs. (For Problem 3.23,
you need to perform analysis for all element models, and only need to show the figure of 8element model)
Analysis Results in a comprehensive format (e.g., a table or chart showing the
variation/convergence of tip displacement for Problem 3.23 is O.K., no need for every details)
Printed input and output files (for Problem 3.23 you need to run cases for all 2, 4, 8 and 16
elements; however, I only need the printout for 8-element model to be submitted)

Also, include the following for hand analysis problems

Element Stiffness matrices;

Global FE equations including stiffness matrix and load vector with boundary conditions
imposed;
Displacement of each node and calculation of element stresses

HW#3 includes the following problems in the textbook

Problems 4.4 and 4.6: Hand calculation
Problem 4.7: Perform both hand analysis and computer analysis using the code TRUSS2D;
Problem 4.10: Perform manual assembly of the 4X4 stiffness matrix using half of the model
and symmetric boundary conditions along the centerline of the truss, and solve the problem
with computer code TRUSS2D;
Problem 4.15: Solve the problem with E=30X106 psi and computer code TRUSS2D;
Problem 5.3: Perform computer analysis using FRAME2D with
1. Full model
2. Half model with symmetric boundary conditions at the centerline of the structure
Problem 5.8: Perform computer analysis using FRAME2D with (1) full model, and (2) half of
the model with symmetric boundary conditions at the center of the frame; and manually
assemble and show the 4X4 stiffness matrix and 4X1 load vector for the half model (using
E=30E6 psi)
Your results should include the following for every problem (do not turn in too many pages, I only
need enough details to understand your analysis approach)

Finite Element Model including a figure to show Element IDs and Node IDs
Printed input and output files for computer analysis problems

Also, include the following for the hand analysis portion of Problems 4.7 and 4.10

Element Stiffness matrices;

Reduced global stiffness matrix and/or load vector;
Nodal displacement and element stresses

HW #4 includes the following problems:

1. Hand calculation of Problems 6.2, 6.3, 6.5, and 6.11
2. Using the software ABAQUS to solve Problem 6.18 in the textbook with linear triangular (CST)
elements and mesh seed of 0.6 inch. (use shell elements instead of solid elements)
3. Repeat the problem in Item 2 with linear quadrilateral (QUAD) elements and the same mesh
seed.
4. Repeat the problem in Item 2 with quadratic quadrilateral elements and the same mesh seed.
5. Show the stress distribution of xx and its maximum stress; conclude your analysis by
comparing the stresses from analyzing the problem in Items 2 to 4.
6. Perform both hand analysis and computer analysis using the computer code CST for the
model of a plane-stress structure with 2 elements as shown at the end of this HW. The
model has fixed-end boundary condition on the left-hand side and roller support at two other
nodes in the same direction. Also, perform analysis of the model with multiple elements. The
detailed model is also shown in the next page using CST (no hand cal). Compare nodal
displacement and stress xx of two cases at the loading point and provide your conclusion.
Your results should include the following (I only need enough details to understand your analysis
approach. Save the forest)

Finite Element meshes (No ID needed) for Problems in Items 2 to 6;

Stress fringe plot for xx for Problems in Items 2 to 4, and you conclusion.

Printed computer input and output files for Problems in Item 6 by following Element and
Node IDs as defined in the problem;

Also, include the following for the hand analysis in Problem 6.11 in Item 1, and 2-element problem in
Item 6

Element Stiffness matrix;

Global reduced stiffness matrix and load vector by including the boundary conditions;
