The Feng Shui

of Your Main Door

MANDALA

The feng shui of your main door is probably the

most crucial aspect of your overall feng shui. This
is the mouth of the home. It is where good or bad
luck chi enters the house.

There are a great many taboos in the
practice of feng shui related to the positioning,
proportion, dimension and characteristics of
the main doors, and it is useful to consider them
individually.

1) Opening of the Main Door

Main doors should open inwards into a wide space rather than a cramped narrow corridor.
It is also necessary to have an open space on the outside of the main door, known as a
bright hall. If there is a foyer and it is too tiny, far better to do away with the foyer.
CURES
1) If the door opens outwards, change the position of the hinges.
2) When the inside foyer space is too small, hang a bright light above the door. Keep the
light turned on for at least three hours each day.
3) You can use a mirror to visually enlarge the foyer space, but position it so that it doesnt
directly face the door.

2) The size, material and color of the main door

The main door should never too small or too large in proportion to the whole house, but it
must be the grandest looking door in the house. For apartments, use the size and height of
the living room as a guide.

A door that is too small is most unfortunate. Good fortune just cannot enter into the
home! The door should be at least high enough for the tallest member of the household to
walk through without too much difficulty, and it should definitely look proportionate to the
room.

A door that is too large for the room will cause the family to
lose all their good fortune. This also means ceilings should not be
too low. Wealth will be lost and nothing can benefit.

Solid doors are preferable to glass doors. Main doors
should always be solid and made of wood or some other
strong, durable material. Main doors must never be made
of clear or opaque glass as this means fragility and offers no
protection for the home and family.

3) Placement of the main door

Good door placements always open to some space. When the entrance is cramped either
inside or outside the door, the feng shui is adversely affected. The main door should never be
hit by any configuration, arrangement or structure which blocks the flow of traffic inwards.

Be careful of what lies above the main door. If an upstairs toilet is inadvertently placed
above the main door, it makes the entrance feng shui of the home extremely inauspicious.
Any exposed overhead beam is most inauspicious facing the main door. Ceiling designs that
have sharp corners and edges are not recommended above the entrance foyer.

Do not place another door beside the main door as this would confuse the energy
trying to enter your house.

It is always best to place a chandelier inside the main door to welcome the energy;
this will also increase yang energy entering the house.

4) Poison arrows from inside and outside the main door

There are many different structures that can harm the main door. To determine if any of the
features indicated as harmful to the main door are actually hurting the door, stand at the
main door and face out. The following features are harmful to the main door:
a) Triangle Roof Line from opposite neighbour
b) Edge of a building
c) Steps leading up or down
d) Lamp Post
e) Cemetery
f) High Rise Tower
The main door can also be harmed by features inside the house. To determine if you have any
such harmful features, stand at the main door looking into the house. The following features
are harmful to the main door:
a) Staircase
b) Pillar
c) Spiral staircase
d) Wall mirror
e) Wall edge
f) Toilet door
g) Main door facing 3 doors in a row
h) Main door facing a long corridor
i) Main door facing the kitchen door

5) How to enhance your main door

Displaying a good fortune symbol next to your front door will activate propitious chi
energy. You can bury three old coins, tied together with red thread, under the ground
just inside the main door. If you cannot bury the coins, place them on the floor and cover
them with a rug.

Hang an auspicious painting such as a painting or photograph of a 100 birds
near the door to enhance the energy around your main door is happy and auspicious.
A hundred birds is particularly excellent as it also symbolizes a hundred opportunities
coming your way.

Place a water feature somewhere near the front door directly in front, either
outside or inside. It will attract prosperity and income luck.

Place good fortune plants on either side of the main door. This will raise yang
energy here and attract good fortune chi into the home.
Display a pair of Fu Dogs flanking the main door to protect against any negative
energy harm to the house.

It is good to place double dragon just inside the door. Dragon is the symbol of
bravery, courage, survival, determination, ambition and all good fortune attributes.

Altars that directly face either the main door or door into the living or family room
are deemed to be auspicious, and will attract good positive energy. Think about this if
you are considering building an altar in the home.
