TITLE : TO STUDY THE EFFECT OF TEMPERATURE ON THE RATE OF REACTION

Different temperature of the reaction affects rate of the reaction

Apparatus and materials :
Conical flack 150cm3, 10cm3 measuring cylinder, 50cm3 measuring cylinder, thermometer,
stopwatch, white paper marked with X,wire gauze, tripod stand and Bunsen burner, 2.0 mol
dm-3 sodium thiosulphate labeled R1, and 1.0 mol dm-3 sulphuric labeled R2.
Instruction :
A) You are required to do the experiment by using the materials, apparatus and steps
given below :
50 cm3 of R1 solution is measured with measuring cylinder and poured into a conical flask.
The temperature of R1 solution is measured with a thermometer.
The conical flask is placed on a white paper marked with a cross X.
5cm3 R2 solution is measured using measuring cylinder and quickly poured into R1 solution.
The stopwatch is started immediately and the conical flask is swirled gently on top of white
paper marked with cross X.
6. The cross X is viewed from above. The stopwatch is stopped as soon as the cross X
disappears from view and the time taken is recorded.
7. 50 cm3 of R1 solution is measured with measuring cylinder and poured into a conical flask.
8. The solution is heated over wire gauze until the temperature reaches 35C.
9. The conical flask is placed on a white paper marked with a cross X.
10. 5cm3 R2 solution is measured using measuring cylinder and quickly poured into R1 solution.
11. The stopwatch is started immediately and the conical flask is swirled gently on top of white
paper marked with cross X.
12. The stopwatch is stopped as soon as the cross X disappears from view and the time taken
is recorded.
13. Steps 7 to 12 are repeated at temperature 40C, 45C and 50C.
