Manual Guide
Manual Guide
Note:
In this guide, the configuration of the UA5000 takes UAM for example unless otherwise stated.
Overview
The internal multi-bus technology enables the UA5000 universal access unit to provide
integrated access to both broadband and narrowband services.
The UA5000 can network with the MD5500 to form the HONET integrated service
access system. It also can access the PSTN in the form of single-layer networking.
As a remote device, the UA5000 meets all kinds of access requirement by supporting
board intermixing, including POTS, ISDN, DDN and xDSL (ADSL/VDSL/SHDSL).
The UA5000 provides different upstream ports to access the narrowband or the
broadband network:
z
Provide STM-4 ATM optical port, STM-1 ATM optical port and IMA E1 port for
access to the ATM backbone network.
Provide FE/GE port for access to the IP network. In addition, it uses the VoIP
technology to carry voice services over the IP packet-based network.
Provide V5 and E1 interfaces for access to the narrowband network such as the
PSTN and DDN.
The integrated access function is accomplished by the double control boards of the
UA5000. One is the broadband control board, while the other the narrowband. The
service configuration of the UA5000 differs with control boards. For specific
configuration, refer to relevant operation manual.

The baud rate here must be consistent with that of the UA5000. By default, it is 9600
bit/s. See Figure 1-3.
1-2
Note:
Inconsistent setting of baudrate often causes illegible display of characters on the terminal. If this happens
after you log in to the system, select another baudrate from the following for the terminal: 9600 bit/s, 19200
bit/s, 38400 bit/s, 57600 bit/s and 115200 bit/s.
1-3
Note:
z
Use the show terminal type command to query the terminal type.
Use the terminal type {ansi | vt100} command to modify the terminal type of the system.
1-4
Note:
The "character delay controls how fast a character in a text is pasted to the HyperTerminal, while the line
delay controls the time interval of each line. Insufficient time delay will lead to loss of characters. If it is
abnormal during pasting texts, modify this value.
Enter the user name and password to log in to the UA5000. The default administrator is
root, and its password is admin.

Figure 1-6 Setting up the configuration environment through the remote serial port
In this mode, there are the following requirements on the modem.
z
Both the calling and called modems are the standard modems and support the AT
command set.
The following will describe one type of modem. Refer to the AT commands in practical
for the modem configuration.
2)
3)
Install the modem driver in the operating system (this step is optional).
4)
Run the HyperTerminal and select COM1 for connection. Suppose that the
modem is connected to COM1.
5)
Set the HyperTerminal as follows: 9600 for baud rate, 8 for data bits, none for
parity, 1 for stop bits and none for flow control.
1-6
Note:
If there is no display on the terminal after the connection is set up, check whether the no echo display
function of the modem has been enabled at the previous setting. Enter the AT&F command to restore the
default setting for the modem. After that, there will be echo display in the terminal.
6)
Run the AT&F command in the HyperTerminal to restore the default setting of the
modem. See whether the status code OK is displayed on the screen. If yes, the
modem is working normally.
7)
Note:
z
After the execution of the previous command, there will be no echo characters or command execution
result displayed on the screen for any AT commands. Generally, many modems can work normally as
required without any configuration after power on.
Due to modems rate restriction, usually set the serial port rate of the UA5000 as 9600 bit/s or 19200
bits. If necessary, use the baudrate command to modify it. Moreover, to avoid the rather high line rate
between modems, you can run the AT$MB=9600 (or another value) command to limit the highest rate
between modems before the execution of the ATEQ1&W command.
1-7
Connect the telephone line to the LINE port of the called modem. Connect the serial
port of the modem with COM in the control board using the serial port cable for the
UA5000. Turn on the modem.
2)
For the external modem, connect the telephone line to its LINE port. Connect the serial
port of the modem with the serial port of the maintenance terminal using the serial port
cable for the modem. Turn on the modem.
For the built-in modem, connect the telephone line to its LINE port.
2)
3)
Set the communication parameters as follows: 9600 for baud rate, 8 for data bits, 1
for stop bits, none for parity and none for flow control.
Note:
Do not select modem in the Connect using drop down list to set up the connection. Select Direct to Com
x, because the HyperTerminal often fails to initialize the modem normally.
4)
Refer to the AT command set for detailed dialing commands. For example, ATDT0 W
555XXXXXXXX means that the HyperTerminal dials external line 0 at first, waits for
exchange to send external line dial tone, and then dials the number 555XXXXXXXX.
2)
3)
4)
5)
Select Bring up terminal window after dialing in the Options tab of the
properties setting page.
6)
7)
You do not have to use the ATDT command for the dialing.
Caution:
z
The call will be disconnected if you press any key after the dialing and before the modem connection is
succeeded.
After the remote maintenance completes, do release the modem connection before you close the
HyperTerminal. Otherwise, the remote modem of some type will remain online all the time, and the
next dialing connection will fail.
1-9
Note:
Ensure the serial port maintenance environment has been set up before you set up the Telnet environment.
Moreover, ensure it can work normally, and you can configure the Telnet data through the serial port.
After that, log in to the UA5000 by the Telnet through the LAN or WAN, as shown in
Figure 1-7.

Note:
The default buffer of the Telnet is rather small. You may enlarge it properly so that more history commands
can be shown in one screen. The recommended size of buffer area is 1000 characters.
1-11
Note:
z
For the command line conventions of this manual, refer to Command Conventions in About This
Manual.
Except for user passwords, the command line inputs are case insensitive.
The command line interpreter adopts the incomplete searching method for key words.
To obtain a certain interpretation, you need to enter the non-conflicting key words. For
example, to obtain the interpretation of the enable command, you can only enter en or
ena. enable is the only command that begins with en in this command line system.
z
You can obtain the automatic matching result of the key words by entering incomplete
command key words and a space. In this way, you will not have to enter long key words,
which greatly facilitates the operation. If the matching is incorrect, you cannot continue
entering the next key word or parameter. Therefore, you can always see the complete
command spelling format in the command line operation. If you cannot enter a space, it
indicates that the input command is incorrect, and you must check and input the correct
command.

The execution process of the tracert command is as follows:
1)
2)
An ICMP error message returns from the first hop, indicating that this data packet
cannot be sent (due to TTL timeout).
3)
4)

Overview
User Management
3.1 Overview
A user here refers to the person who operates and maintains the UA5000 through
command line terminals.
Each user has his own attributes.
1)
Account
It is also called user name, which consists of 1 to 15 printable characters. The account
is unique in the system. No space is allowed for the account. The account is case
insensitive.
2)
Password
The password consists of 1 to 15 characters. The Common User or the User can
modify his own password, while the Administrator can modify passwords of other
users. The password is case sensitive.
The user has to input correct account and password when logging in to the system
through the command line terminal.
3)
Reenter number
Whether a user can log in to the system through multiple terminals simultaneously is
determined by the reenter number for the user. The number ranges from 1 to 4. The
default value is 1.
When a user attempts to log in to the system with valid account and correct password,
the system will check whether someone has already logged in with this account. If yes,
it will determine whether the user is allowed to log in to the system according to the
reenter number for the user.
4)
Authority
The user authority has three levels: Common User, User and Administrator.
A Common User can only conduct some simple operations such as information query.
A user can configure the equipment and ordinary services. An Administrator can
conduct various configurations and manage the operation users.
A higher level user can execute commands of lower level. However, a lower level user
cannot execute commands of higher level.
3-1
The initial command mode is User Mode after a user logs in to the system. He then
can enter different command modes based on his authorities. Users with different
authorities can execute different commands even if they are in the same command
mode.
5)
Adding a User
Deleting a User
Querying a User
Note:
z
The account must be unique, and the accounts all and online are invalid.
The Administrator root cannot be deleted, but its password can be modified.
Multiple users can be added continuously at one time. Up to 126 users can be added.
For example, to add a user abc with the authority of User, and the permitted reenter
number is 2, do as follows.
huawei#terminal user name
User name(<=15chars):abc
3-2
User password(<=15chars):
2. Operator
3. Administrator: 2
Note:
z
The user that is logging in to the system cannot be deleted directly. To delete such a user,
disconnect its connection first. (a higher level user can use the telnet delete command to forcibly
release the Telnet session of a certain user).

Configuration Examples
When the UA5000 provides NM interfaces through the PVM board, the NM
configuration can be implemented through the following two steps:
z
5-1
This name is the unique ID of the NMS workstation. It must be globally unique in the
system.
2)
The GET/SET community name is a string not more than 15 characters. The
community name is a simple security guarantee provided by Simple Network
Management Protocol (SNMP). It is equivalent to the user operation password. The
GET/SET community name here must be consistent with the setting at the NMS side.
Otherwise, the NMS requests will not be processed. By default, the GET community
name is public, and the SET community name is private, you also can modify them
accordingly.
3)
Note:
During configuring NMS workstation, pay attention to the following:
z
Ensure that the IP address and the NMS workstation name are unique when adding an NMS
workstation.
To make the configuration effective, you must activate the workstation after adding parameters.

5-5
Configuring a Frame
Note:
The correct frame type must be specified when a frame is added. Otherwise, the boards in this frame
cannot work normally.
After the master frame is added, it will stay in the normal status, and the control board
PVM will also stay in the normal status.
6-1
After the slave frame is added, it will stay in the faulty status. To make it work normally,
do as follows.
z
Use the board confirm command to confirm the RSP board in the slave frame.
If the frame contains unconfirmed boards, this frame can be deleted successfully. In
this case, the unconfirmed boards will be deleted automatically.
Note:
z
The procedure for deleting a frame is: Delete all services of the boards in the frame->Delete all boards
except for the PVM board->Disable the PVM board->Delete inter-frame connections-> Delete the PVM
board-> Delete the frame. The above sequence must be followed, or the frame cannot be deleted
successfully.
6-2
Both the upper level and the lower level frames must exist. The parameter frameid1
represents the upper level frame, while frameid2 the lower level frame. Do not reverse
the sequence.
slotid: Slot number, in the range of 017. This parameter refers to the slot number of the
PVM or RSP board.
portid: Start port number of the link, in the range of 015.
Each port has only one link at one time.
portid1 It must be the HW port number of the master PVM board. The show board
frameid/slotid command can be used to query the HW port of the PVM board.
portid2: End port number of the link, in the range of 07. On the RSP board, it is the E1
port number. Use the show board frameid/slotid command to query the E1 port on the
slave RSP board.
You need to check whether the added inter-frame link is connected with the link of port
0 on the RSP board or not. If not, the RSP board cannot work normally.
For example, configure the link between the master and slave frames. The UAM frame
is used as the master frame. The active PVM board is in slot 10 and the standby PVM
board is in slot 9. For two subtending slave frames, the UAS frame is used as the slave
frame. The RSP boards are in slot 9 and slot 10.

Overview
MG Interface Configuration
8.1 Overview
In the next generation network (NGN), the media gateway (MG) is completely
separated from the media gateway controller (MGC). The MG controls information
interworking on the user plane, while the MGC controls signaling interworking on the
control plane.
In the NGN, the UA5000 acts as the MG, and the SoftSwitch acts as the MGC. The MG
interface data describes information about the interface and connection between the
UA5000 and the SoftSwitch.
For example, to enter an existing MG interface with the mgid as 6, proceed as follows:
huawei(config)#interface mg 6
huawei(config-if-mg-6)#
8-1
To close an MG interface, use the shutdown command in the MG interface mode. After
the MG interface is closed, MG services will be aborted.
Caution:
z
After an MG interface is added or modified, it must be reset to take effect. The purpose of resetting is to
register itself again on the MGC.
If you reset an MG interface, the services on it will be terminated. Be careful to use the resetting
command.

8-2
Caution:
z
UA5000 port number, MGC IP address, and MGC port number configured on the UA5000 must be the
same as those on the MGC.
Before configuring the interface data, you must first set the device IP address. The command for
configuring the IP address of the device is: ip address board-ip-addr [submask submask | gateway
gateway-ip ]*.
8-3
Use the command below to configure the parameter of the standby MGC: if-mg

mgcport_2
3)
2)
When the UA5000 is applying for registration, the MGC generates a random
number, encrypts the MG_ID and the static key, and sends the encryption result
back to the UA5000.
8-4
3)
When the UA5000 receives the random number and the encryption result from the
MGC, it encrypts again the MG_ID and the random number with the same
algorithm.
4)
The UA5000 judges whether its own encryption result is identical with that of the
MGC. If yes, it takes that the MGC is valid.
5)
6)
When the MGC receives the result from the UA5000, it also compares its own
encryption result with that of the UA5000. If identical, the MG is valid.
7)
Use the auth initial_key initial_key mg_id mg_id command to configure the static key
and MG_ID.

The ThreeWaysHandshakeFlagval parameter specifies whether to activate the
three-way handshake. If it is set to 1, three-way handshake will be activated, otherwise
not. The value can be 1 (TRUE) or 0 (FALSE). The default is 0 (FALSE).
Note:
z
All the above parameters are optional. If you do not select a parameter, it means the default value of
the parameter given by the system will be used. Modification of these parameters is not
recommended.
For example, to set the maximum retransmission duration to 20 seconds and disable
the at_most_once function, proceed as follows.
huawei(config)# mgcpparam maxRetranTimer 20 AtMostOnceFlag false
Use the show mgcp {ver ver | para para} command in the user mode to query the
version and parameters of the MGCP.
Note:
z
Duration of long timer (longtimer) > maximum retransmission times (maxretranstimes) maximum
duration of retransmission timer (maxretranstimer)
For other parameters, refer to the explanation to the MGCP stack configuration.
8-8
If you want to configure transaction reliability parameters, first use the h248stack tr
command to open the transaction reliability switch.
For example, to open the H.248 transaction reliability switch with MG interface identifier
as 1, proceed as follows.
huawei(config-if-mg-1)# h248stack tr
Note:
Transaction reliability parameters can be configured only after the transaction reliability switch is enabled.
Authentication header encryption has nothing to do with transaction reliability.
Note:
z
The data packet sent from the MGC to the UA5000 contains the ringing mode parameter, which has
the same value as that of mgcpara. The UA5000 shall look up the ringing mode in the ringing mapping
table according to this parameter. After a ringing mode matches with the mgcpara, the UA5000 obtains
the cadence type and initialring type.
The UA5000 provides 255 ringing modes, from which the values for cadence and initialring are
extracted.
The mg-ringmode add mgcpara cadence [initialring] command is used to customize a ringing mode.

the specified time point before releasing.
Parameter 3: whether the MG and the MGC close heartbeat messages. It has two
values, 0 or 1: 0 for yes, 1 for no.
Parameter 5: whether to report automatic port block to the MGC. It has two values,
0 or 1: 0 for yes, 1 for no.
The value parameter specifies the value of the parameter. It refers to the specific values
of parameters 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, as mentioned above.
For example, proceed as follows to configure MG interface software parameters so that
current calls can be held after the MG is disconnected from the MGC.
huawei(config)# mg-software parameter 1 0
Use the show mg-software parameter mgid [name ] command in the global
configuration mode to query the software parameter configuration data of an MG
interface. You can also use the show mg-software parameter [name ] command in
the MG interface mode.
For example, to show MG software parameter values with index as 1 in the

9 means sending gain being 0 dB, and receiving gain being 7 dB.
10 means sending gain being 0 dB, and receiving gain being 12 dB.
11 means sending gain being 0 dB, and receiving gain being 8.5 dB.
12 means sending gain being 3 dB, and receiving gain being 0 dB.
13 means sending gain being 3 dB, and receiving gain being 3.5 dB.
14 means sending gain being 3 dB, and receiving gain being 7 dB.
15 means sending gain being 3 dB, and receiving gain being 12 dB.
16 means sending gain being 3 dB, and receiving gain being 8.5 dB.
The pulse-dial parameter specifies whether to allow pulse dial. Available values include
Enable and Disable.
The polarity-reverse parameter specifies the polarity reversal setting. The value
Not-support indicates normal polarity. The value Support indicates polarity reversal.
Polarity reversed charging is one of the ways for implanting immediate charging for the
access subscriber. The charging terminal that has the polarity reversal function (such
as the subscriber charging phone) has charging data in itself, so what it needs is the
conversation start and end time. The UA5000 indicates the start and end time of a call
according to the polarity reversal on the subscriber line connected to the subscriber
board, realizing the polarity reversed charging.
Note:
z
On the ASL, only ports 7 and 8 support polarity reversal (the port numbers start from 0).
On the A32 subscriber board, only ports 15 and 16 support polarity reversal (the port numbers start
from 0).
9-3
KC is used for real-time charging of charging terminals like card telephone. K refers to
the frequency of charging signals (16 kHz or 12 kHz). C refers to counter. The MGC
periodically sends charging signals to the AMG5000. The AMG5000 instructs the
related subscriber board to send KC signal to the charging terminal. In this way, KC
function is implemented.
If an access subscriber has a 16/12KC charging terminal and wants to use this service,
configure its KC attribute. Different countries might have different specifications. Set it
according to your specific requirements. The AMG5000 uses the related China
specifications by default.
To set KC attribute of an MG subscriber port, use the pstnport kc set
frameid/slotid/portid highlevel lowlevel kctype voltage command.
To set KC attributes of a batch of MG subscriber ports, use the pstnport kc batset
startframeid/slotid/portid endframeid/slotid/portid highlevel lowlevel kctype voltage
command.
To show the KC attribute of an MG subscriber port, use the show pstnport kc
frameid/slotid [/portid] command.
The following describes the parameters of the above commands.
The highlevel parameter specifies the width of high level. The default value is 15
milliseconds.
The lowlevel parameter specifies the width of low level. The default value is 35
milliseconds.
The kctype parameter specifies the KC type (16KC or 12KC). The default value is
16KC.
The Voltage parameter specifies the valid level value. The value range is [0, 6],
representing 0.45, 0.775, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, and 3.0. The unit is Vrms. The default value
is 0, that is, 0.45 Vrms.
9-4
Note:
z
With only the frameid/slotid, it is possible to show the state of all the ports of the board.
For the MG subscriber port, it is possible to perform the show, reset, block and unblock operations.
For example, to show the state of the MG subscriber port in slot 3 port 0 of frame 1,
proceed as follows.
huawei(config-esl-user)#show port state 1/3/0
-------------------------------------------------------------------Frame/Slot/Port PortType PortState

Overview
Configuring an SPC
10.1 Overview
The UA5000 provides the semi-permanent connection (SPC) service to set up a
connection between ports of different UA5000s or between ports of the same UA5000
by means of command line terminal or NMS instruction. The SPC creation does not
involve the MGC.
There are two types of SPCs: IP-based SPC and private SPC (also called leased line
service). An IP-based SPC can be set up between ports of different UA5000s or
between ports of the same UA5000. A leased line service connection can be set up
only between ports of the same UA5000. An SPC uses dedicated and fixed voice
channels. The purpose is to ensure the quality of communication of very important
access subscribers.
Note:
z
The IP-based SPC and dedicated line do not provide ringing tone and ring-back tone.
It is not recommended to set up an IP SPC between ports of the same UA5000, because such a
connection wastes system resources.
Common service data and SPC service data can be configured at the same port. If
both are configured, the SPC service has a higher priority.

If the SPC is successfully set up, the system will return information like
Succeeded in adding SPC with connection number as XXX.
If data configuration is correct, but the SPC is not set up due to device fault or
other causes, the system will return information like Succeeded in configuring
SPC with connection number as XXX.
If data configuration is not correct, the system will return the corresponding error
cause, for example, Start frame XXX start slot XXX has no port XXX.
10-2
For example, to add an SPC between ASL ports in a RSP frame, proceed as follows.
The start frame/slot/port/channel number is 1/13/0/0. The end frame/slot/port/channel
number is 1/14/0/0.
huawei(config)#spc
1/14/0/0 1
Specify the start and end SPC index numbers to query several SPCs
Specify frame number and slot number to query all SPCs on the specific board.
For example, to query all SPCs on the ASL in slot 3, frame 0, proceed as follows.

SPC releasing disconnects one or more SPCs. It is used to interrupt some SPC
services. The released SPC can be reconnected by connection command.
To release SPC, use the spc release {connectid connectid | from-connectid fromid
[ to-connectid endid ] } command.
If release fails, check whether the configuration data is correct and whether the SPC
has been released.
For example, to release an SPC with index number as 0, proceed as follows:
huawei(config)#spc release connectid 0
modify
connectid
start
frameid/slotid/portid/channelid
end

12.1 Overview
Before the system maintenance, be sure to get familiar with the system management
files, storage media and system upgrade steps.
The PVM supports Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory (SDRAM), Static
Random Access Memory (SRAM), and Flash memory as storage media.
The SDRAM is used to run the host software program. The SRAM is used to save
operation logs and alarms. The Flash memory is used to save the host software
program, database file, and multi-language resource file. The Flash memory also
contains the Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) program file, which is used for system
initialization.

Automatic save
1)
To show the current automatic save parameters, use the show autosave
configuration command.
2)
Set the automatic save switch with the autosave {on | off} command. If on is selected,
the system automatically saves data at the set time interval. If off is selected, the
system does not automatically save the data. The new configuration data need to be
manually saved.
3)
By default, the system automatically saves data once an hour. Use the autosave
interval command to set the automatic save interval. The time unit is minute.
For example, to set the automatic save interval to 120 minutes, proceed as follows:
huawei#autosave interval 120
12-4
Note:
Frequent saving actions will influence system running. It is not recommended to set the automatic save
interval to less than one hour.
Manual save
If the system has unsaved configuration data, use the save command to save it. The
save command will take effect on both active and standby PVMs.
If the synchronization switch is open, after the save command is executed, the system
will first check whether configuration data has been fully synchronized. If not, the
system will prompt that data will not be saved until it is fully synchronized.
If the synchronization switch is closed, after the save command is executed, the system
will check whether the active and standby boards have unsaved data. For the standby
board, the system will check whether there is unsaved configuration data before the
synchronization switch is closed. The active and standby boards might have different
contents to save.
For example, the active board data shall be saved, while the standby board data does
not need saving. The configuration data has been saved on the standby board before
the synchronization switch is closed. The save command will only take effect on the
active board in the following situations:
z
The program versions of the active and standby boards do not match.
Some data is loaded to the standby board, or some configuration data is erased
from the standby board.
No matter whether the automatic save function is enabled, use the save command to
immediately save configuration data of the system.
12-5
Use the backup {program | data | language {local | general}} {xmodem | tftp
serveripaddress filename | ftp ServerIpAddress filename} command to back up the
system data.
When you execute the backup command, the following information must be specified:
z
The contents to be backed up. The contents that can be backed up include system
program (program), database file (data), and multi-language resource file
(language).
The protocol to be used in the backup. Backup can be implemented through serial
port or maintenance network port. Serial port backup adopts Xmodem protocol.
Network port backup uses Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP) or FTP.
If you select serial port backup, use the HyperTerminal to receive files and create a file
storage directory. The protocol used for receiving files is Xmodem.
If you select TFTP backup, specify the IP address of the remote computer and start the
TFTP server at that computer. Because TFTP does not support directory functions,
create a backup file storage directory at the TFTP server in advance.
If you select FTP backup, set correct username and password before command
execution. Ensure the FTP server is started in the destination computer, and ensure
normal connection between the host and that computer.
For example, proceed as follows to back up system database file to a computer with the
IP address as 10.11.116.25 through network port (using the TFTP).
1)
Confirm normal connection between the TFTP server and the UA5000, and
confirm the normal running of the TFTP application.
If the default path is not your desired path to save backup file, click <Settings>. Set a
desired file path. Click <OK>.
2)
If the specified parameter is not correct or the TFTP connection is not normal, the
system will prompt an error. Locate the error source according to the prompt, and
remove the error. If the backup is successfully carried out, the system will prompt the
corresponding information. During the backup process, use the show progress
backup command to show the backup progress.
12-6
Erasing configuration data will clear away the data had been loaded or saved;
please backup the configuration data first
Are you sure to erase configuration data? (y/n)[n]:y
Note:
z
Before you erase the data, back up the system data with the backup data command to prevent loss of
important data.
After the command is successfully carried out, you need to reboot the PVM whose data has been
erased to clear the configuration data.
Manual switchover
2)
After the data synchronization switch is successfully set, the system will display the
current status of the switch.
3)
Caution:
The system will automatically disable the synchronization function in the following situations:
z
The communication between the active and standby control boards becomes faulty.
The system detects the versions of the active and standby boards do not match.
The system will enable the data synchronization function again if the communication is recovered. When
the system detects the active and standby versions match each other, the standby database becomes
normal again.
If all valid data on the active control board is synchronized to the standby control
board, we call it full data synchronization.
If part of valid data on the active control board is synchronized to the standby
control board, we call it partial data synchronization.
Full data synchronization is one of the premises for the system to normally carry out an
active/standby switchover. This command is usually used before manual switchover.
The specific operations are presented as follows.
huawei#show data sync state
Configuration data (data configuated by users) synchronization is completed
Basic working data (data about device status, operation log, alarm, and so
on.) synchronization is completed
Dynamic service data (data realtimely changing such as PSTN call data PPPOE
call data, and so on.) synchronization is completed
The checksum of configuration data in active and standby board are consistent
12-8
If the switchover succeeds, the originally standby control board will become active (you
can observe the state indicator on it), and the terminal will display an active/standby
switchover message. After the originally active control board is restarted as a result of
reset, the indicator will indicate it is in standby state.
Caution:
z
If you switch over the system when the data is not fully synchronized, you may cause data loss or
abnormality. Therefore, it is recommended you switch over the system after synchronizing the data.
After the active/standby switchover command is carried out, the terminal that originally logs in the
system from the serial port needs to log in the system again. Since the original active control board is
restarted, the terminal that logs in the system from the serial port on the original active control board
can show the restart process of the active control board.

FTP is recommended for its better security and stability than TFTP.
Loading through serial port using Xmodem is slow. TFTP or FTP is recommended.
DO NOT load programs and data using the standby board network port.
When you execute a program load command, specify the following information:
z
The protocol to be used in load. Load can be implemented through serial port or
the PVMs Wide Area Network (WAN) port. Serial port load adopts Xmodem
protocol. Network port load uses TFTP or FTP.
If you select TFTP load, specify the file name to be loaded and IP address of the
computer with the file. In addition, start the TFTP server at that computer. Because
TFTP does not support directory functions, create a file storage directory at the
TFTP server in advance.
If you select FTP load, set correct username and password before command
execution. Ensure the FTP server is started in the destination computer, and
ensure normal connection between the host and that computer.
If you select serial port load, use HyperTerminal to transfer the program file. Select
Xmodem as the transmission protocol.

Overview
13.1 Overview
The UA5000 provides excellent alarming functions. With the functions, you can obtain
useful information in case of an exception occurring to the system or service.
Alarms might originate from various modules of the host or from service boards.
When an alarm is generated, the system will broadcast it to each terminal according to
the currently configured terminals, including network management station (NMS) and
command line interface (CLI) terminal. Whether alarm should be reported to each
terminal depends on the corresponding definition in the alarm control.
Alarm ID (id)
Alarm ID is the unique alarm identity composed of four bytes. Each alarm has an alarm
ID. The show alarm list command is used to show the alarm name corresponding to
each alarm ID.
2)
Alarm serial number is a long integer. Each alarm has a different serial number. In
general, alarm serial number is numbered according to the alarm generation sequence.
Therefore, it can be used to locate a specific alarm.
3)
Alarm level is used to identify the severity of an alarm. Alarms fall into critical alarm,
major alarm, minor alarm and warning alarm in the descending order of alarm severity.
z
Critical alarms are of global significance, and will damage the normal operation of
the device. Critical alarms shall be removed at once. For example, power supply
circuitry becomes faulty.
Major alarms refer to local board or line alarms which may lead to abnormal
service operation if not handled in time, for example, physical line fault.
Minor alarms refer to generic state fault alarms and event alarms that describe
whether the boards or lines are working normally. For example, a physical line has
bit errors.
4)
Alarm class is defined as event alarm, fault alarm, and recovery alarm. Every fault
alarm will have a recovery alarm.
5)
Alarms fall into five types: communication, service, process, equipment, and
environment.
6)
Alarm parameter
A control command is used to set whether to send some alarms to CLI terminal
according to specific conditions.
13-2
The main control board saves a maximum of latest 1,000 fault alarms and recovery
alarms and 900 event alarms. When a new alarm is generated, if the record table is full,
the new entry will overwrite the oldest one. If you want to view history alarm entries,
query the data saved in the network management station database.
The system provides various means to query alarm history, as shown in Table 13-1.
Table 13-1 Alarm history query commands
Querying Mode
Command
Alarm ID
Alarm name
Alarm level
Alarm class
Alarm type
Statistic flag
Number of parameters
15-minute threshold
24-hour threshold
13-3
Note:
The recovery alarm level is the same as the fault alarm level. If you set the fault alarm level, the system will
adopt the same alarm level for the corresponding recovery alarm. Similarly, when you set the recovery
alarm level, the system will adopt the same alarm level for the corresponding fault alarm.
Use
13-4
To verify command execution results, use the show alarm configuration command.
To set the alarm outputs, pay attention to the following items.
z
The setting results will take effect on all command line terminals. In other words,
an alarm will either be reported to all terminals or not be reported to any terminal.
The alarm shielding function does not take effect on network management
terminal, which provides other alarm filtering functions.
The alarm output setting command does not influence alarm generation. The
system will also record the generated alarms. You can query them with a show
history command.
The several alarm output setting commands will influence each other. Whether an
alarm will be exported depends on the last setting.
The output flag of recovery alarm is the same as that of fault alarm. The system
will automatically implement this function.
The several alarm statistics setting commands will influence each other. Whether
statistics will be performed on an alarm depends on the last setting.
Statistic flags may be different between fault alarm and recovery alarm.
13-5
Note:
Statistic values may be different between fault alarm and recovery alarm. You may care them to different
extents. Therefore, the threshold values of fault alarm and recovery alarm are set separately.
13-6
Note:
If a kind of alarm is not generated for a long time (two days), the system will automatically clear its statistics.
Therefore, you do not need to clear the alarm statistics manually.
13-7
Overview
Configuration Examples
14.1 Overview
The environment monitoring system keeps monitoring various environment parameters,
such as temperature, humidity, and voltage. The purpose is to ensure stable running of
the UA5000 in suitable environments.
To monitor environments, the Environment Monitor Units (EMU) must be provided,
such as the H302ESC and the H303ESC.
2)
Checks the monitoring parameters reported from power frame, fan module frame,
and power distribution frame. If there is an exceptional parameter, it will generate
an alarm.
3)
14-1
Note
Before delivery, the EMUs have been connected with the frames, and no modification is required during
debugging. If you need to reconnect the EMUs, such as you want to configure the EMUs to other frames,
refer to this section.
The EMUs provide the following ports to communicate with the UA5000 through the
environment monitoring cable:
z
Connect the specific environment monitoring cable led out from the EMUs to the
environment monitoring serial port B_ESC (rear-access) or ESC0/ESC1 (front-access)
on the UA5000 backplane. Each EMU reports various status variables of the equipment
to the host through such port and receives configuration commands from the host.
Note:
Environment monitoring ports ESC0 and ESC1 on the backplane of the front-access frame are shared by
the broadband and the narrowband main control boards during environment monitoring configuration.
According to different orders of monitoring cables, either the broadband or the narrowband main control
board can be used to perform environment monitoring.
The ESC board and the UA5000 frame use the active/standby node communication
mode, with the fixed node number 30.
Adding an EMU
To add an EMU, use the emu add emuid emutype frameid subnode [name] command
in the global configuration mode.
14-2
The emuid parameter must be specified when you are adding an EMU. The specified
emuid value cannot be used ever. To confirm that, use the show emu command to
show all existing EMUs.
The emutype parameter specifies the type of environment monitoring unit, including
POWER4845, DIS, H302ESC and H303ESC.
The frameid parameter specifies the frame number connected to the EMU.
The subnode parameter specifies the subnode number. Because the UA5000 and the
EMUs adopts active/standby node communication mode, you need to configure the
subnode number when configuring EMUs for the frame. The subnode number to be
specified cannot collide with the existing subnode numbers. The subnode numbers of
the PS 4845 and the MDF are set by subnode dual in-line package (DIP) switch. The
subnode number of the ESC board is 30.
Note:
If the subnode number is configured incorrectly, the system will fail to communicate with the EMUs.

Deleting an EMU
The UA5000 frame can be configured with one EMU only. If the EMU in a frame is
changed, delete the original one with the emu del emuid command and add a new one.
To show specific EMU configurations, use the show emu [emuid] command in the
global configuration mode. To show EMU configurations of a specified frame, use the
show frame info frameid command in the global configuration mode.
Note:
Configured EMU type cannot be modified. To modify an EMU, delete it and then add a new one.

14-4
Note:
By default, the H302ESC supports reporting two types of analog parameters: temperature and humidity.
14-5
The show esc 4810 {parameter | state | run info} command is used to show
information about 4810 power, including 4810 power configuration parameters
and power status.
The show esc alarm command is used to show various environment alarms.
Note:
z
For a parameter description and the use of the environment monitoring configuration commands, refer
to the Command Manual.
Environment parameters comprise analog parameters and digital parameters. The analog parameter
is obtained by the analog sensor. The H303ESC has built-in temperature and humidity sensors. The
value of analog parameter is variable. The digital parameter includes access control and fire alarm. It
is obtained by the digital sensor. The digital parameter has only two statuses: normal and alarm.
You can perform relevant querying operations to the power supplies only when the power supplies
have been correctly connected to the H303ESC and the H303ESC has been configured accordingly.
The power supply types that the H303ESC can monitor include the 4810 power supply.
14-6
The esc com comindex coml baud data_length stop_length parity command is
used to configure extended serial port parameters, including port ID, command
word, baud rate, data bit length, end bit length and checksum mode. The
configuration of baud rate shall be consistent with that of the SIP switch S7-4 in the
lower right part of the board. If S7-4=ON, the reporting rate of the serial port is
19200bit/s; if S7-4=OFF, the reporting rate of the serial port is 9600bit/s. The S7-4
is set as ON before delivery.
Note:
z
The digital parameter has two statuses: high level and low level. When the sensor detects that the
environment has changed, it sends information to the corresponding digital parameter to cause status
reversal of the parameter. That is, the parameter changes from high level to low level or the other way
around. Meanwhile, an alarm is sent or cancelled according to the set status. If the digital parameter
sends an alarm when the environment is normal, suppose the status of the digital parameter is high
level (the value of the digital parameter is 1) at this time, you should use the esc digital command to
set the normal status to high level. In this way, the alarm can be cancelled.
The esc com command is used to configure the parameters of the standby serial port of the H303ESC,
including baud rate and length of data bit.
The H303ESC needs first to use the esc power command to add a power supply before configuring
related power supply parameters. At present, the H303ESC supports the 4810.

TSS Test
If the attributes of the assistant port are configured, the system will check whether the
port exists and whether the telephone number exists.
Note:
If the tested port is not in the same frame as the TSS board in the corresponding test group of frame,
physical cable is necessarily used to connect the test buses of the frames. The connection shall be set up
between JT1 at the rear of the backplane of a frame and JT2 at the rear of the backplane of the other frame.
If there are several frames, you can use the same method to connect them.
For example, proceed as follows to set a test group to use the TSS board in slot 2 of
frame 1 (enter the test mode before setting test group attributes).
huawei(config)#test
huawei(config-test)#testgroup set 1/2
{<cr>|assisport<K>|assisphone<K>}:
Command:
testgroup set 1/2
1 / 2
/ -
/ -
/ -
------------------------------------------------------------------
15-2
It is unnecessary to set a test group for a non-RSP frame. For all RSP frames, a test
group must be set no matter whether the frames share the same TSS. Otherwise, the
test command cannot be executed.

15-4
There is a TSS board corresponding to the tested port. The TSS is operating
normally.
15-5
The test port is busy, and no configurations are done to prefer test when the port is
busy.
To conduct an external line test on a plain old telephone service (POTS) port, use the
pots loop-line-test mgid mgid terminalid terminalid [busy busyflag] or pots
loop-line-test {frameid/slotid/portid | telno telno} [busy busyflag] command.
Among the items:
The busyflag parameter specifies whether to test when the port is busy. The value 0
indicates not to test when busy. The value 1 indicates to test when busy. The default
setting is not to test when busy. Digital subscriber and meter aided test do not support
testing when the port is busy.
The UA5000 can use two types of information in port test: physical information and
telephone number. If a port has a telephone number configured, you can use physical
information (frame number/slot number/port number) and telephone number in test, or
you can use mgid value and terminalid value in test.
For example, proceed as follows to forcedly test port 0 of the ASL board in slot 11 of
frame 1 (RSP frame) when the port is busy.
huawei(config-test)#pots loop-line-test 1/11/0 busy 1

The board in the corresponding position (frame number/slot number) is the DSL
board and is operating normally.
There is a TSS board corresponding to the tested port. The TSS is operating
normally.
Normal LT power supply voltage: voltage of the power supplied by the CB03 DSL
under normal load.
Manually cutting circuit feeder voltage: The DSL stops supplying power. The
TSS07 measures the voltage on the test bus.
Manually connecting circuit feed voltage: The DSL begins supplying power to the
exterior. The TSS07 measures the voltage on the test bus.
The last two items test if LT power supply can be switched over. Only the CB03 DSL
supports the test related to remote power supply.

After the test is completed, the following are displayed at the subscriber terminal: result
of activation operation, result of deactivation operation, normal LT power supply
capability, automatic overcurrent protection capability of LT power supply, feed of
manually cutting circuit, feed of manually connecting circuit, and a conclusion.
Proceed as follows to perform an internal line test on the port with the telephone

Activate NT1: Switch over the external test bus of the tested BRA port to the test
bus and then send the activating command to the TSS and test if the external line
remote NT1 of the ISDN BRA port can be activated.
Deactivate NT1: Switch over the external test bus of the tested BRA port to the test
bus and then send the deactivating command to the TSS to test if the external line
remote NT1 of the ISDN BRA port can be deactivated.
Line transmission bit error rate: The default test time is 120 seconds. Under
normal conditions, the bit error rate to ensure normal data communication shall be
lower than 1E-6.
During the test process, if one item is time out, error information will be returned and the
current test will be terminated.
After the test is completed, the following information is displayed at the subscriber
terminal: result of activation NT1 operation, result of deactivation NT1 operation, result
of testing transmission bit error rate, total number of transmissions, number of bit errors,
bit error rate, and a conclusion.

Conclusion
--------------------------------------------------------------
Switching over to reference NT1: Connect the internal line of the tested port with
the reference NT1 through the TSS to form a path. (The reference NT1 refers to
the external line connected to the TSS.) If the reference NT1 operates normally, it
means the actually used NT1 does not operate normally.
Switching over to reference LT: Connect the external line of the tested port with
the reference LT through the TSS. (The reference LT refers to the internal line of
15-13
the auxiliary test port.) Similar to switching over to reference NT1, in this test, the
TSS uses a standard reference DSL port to check if the original DSL port is faulty.
Connections for the test
When conducting the test of switching over to reference NT1, the DSL board where the
tested digital subscriber port A is located needs to be put in place. (It is OK for this DSL
board not to connect NT1 or a digital phone set.) In addition, you need to connect NT1
and digital phone set B to the pins of row 26 in the upper slot of the TSS backplane.
When conducting the test of switching over to reference LT, the tested digital subscriber
port A needs to be connected to a digital telephone set NT1. In addition, an auxiliary
DSL port B with normal lines on DSL board is required. You need to connect this port to
the pins of row 25 in the upper slot of the TSS backplane.
Example 1: switching over tested digital subscriber A to reference NT1.
z
Connecting line
Connect tested port A (1/13/0, telephone number 84016) to NT1 and digital phone set
A.
Connect the pins of row 26 in the upper slot of the TSS to another NT1 and digital
phone set B.
z
Use phone set C to dial the number of A (84016). If phone set B rings and the call can
be connected successfully after offhook of phone set B, or you can call other numbers
successfully on phone set B when it is ringing, it can be determined that the fault is on
the terminal side.
z
Connecting line
Connect tested port A (1/13/0, telephone number 84016) to NT1 and digital phone set
A;
Connect the auxiliary port B (1/12/0, telephone number 84008) to the pins of row 25 in
the upper slot of the TSS backplane.
z
15-14
Use phone set C to dial the number of B (84008). If the phone set of A can ring, and A
and C can communicate, or if the phone set of A can get through other phone sets, the
fault is usually on the access network side.
z
Note:
After a meter aided test is started, the test will not be stopped until a termination command is executed.
You can use the no bra meter-test {v5id v5id EFadd EFadd| frameid/slotid/portid |
telno telno} command to stop the meter-aided test of ISDN subscriber. For example:
huawei(config-test)#no bra meter-test 1/6/0
The diagnosis items include RAM, voltage, capacitance, signal tone circuit, DTMF,
ringing current, onhook, offhook, polarity, and bit error test.
test-board self-test {frame/slot}
After the test is completed, the system will display the following results to the terminal:
TSS self-test, RAM self-test, voltage, resistance, signal tone circuit, DTMF, ringing
current, onhook, offhook, polarity, and bit error test.
For example, proceed as follows to conduct a self-test on the TSS board in frame 1 slot
2.
huawei(config-test)#test-board self-test 1/2
