4K / ULTRA HD: A GOOD INVESTMENT OR A FAD?

ARE HERE TO STAY
In a decade, we've upgraded from Standard
Definition (SD) to High Definition (HD) and
then HD to Full HD. The Avatar inspired 3D
craze came and went, but the pursuit for
higher resolutions continued unabated. On
each side of the bell curve we have people
who will spend money to bask in the glory of
having the latest and greatest and those at
the other end of the spectrum that will wait
it out and never actually buy anything. Most
of us sit somewhere in between.

In 2014, Ultra HD / 4K was for the

early adopters, but expect it to become
a standard resolution in 2015. This
change will come about as people buy
larger TVs. With larger TVs, comes
higher the resolution. The second driver
will be the availability of content. For
4K you now have content from online,
YouTube, Netflix, Blu-ray by the end of
2015 and many predict that iTunes will
also release 4K at any time soon.
