6. GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE WORK

CONTRACTOR shall design, engineer, procure, supply and deliver all equipment and
materials, including operational spare parts and special equipment and/or tools, to the
WORK SITE and COMPANY designated warehouse(s) respectively, construct, install, test
and commission and put into service the Six (6) outdoor Gas Circuit Breakers after
replacing the existing Six (6) 115kV Bulk Oil Circuit Breakers in Karmah & Hafar Al-Batin
Sub-3 as described below in accordance with the Scope of Work and Technical
Specifications, PTS#15-JAMD-01.
6.1

Work shall consist of, but not limited to, the following;
a.

CONTRACTOR shall remove and replace the existing 115kV Bulk Oil Circuit
Breakers in Karmah S/S and Hafar Al-Batin Sub-3 as shown in the table below and
as detailed in PTS#15-JAMD-01.

b. CONTRACTOR shall provide, install, test and commission Six (6) 115kV outdoor
Gas Circuit Breakers (GCB) in the following substations detailed below:

KARMAH SUBSTATION : CONTRACTOR shall Supply, install, test &

commission three (3) 115kV, 2500A, 40kA, 60Hz, outdoor GCBs, fixed type, dead
tank circuit breakers suitable for 550C ambient temperature which should be
complete with local control cabinet, local/remote key switch, and all appurtenances
and accessories to replace three (3) 115 kV BOCBs.

d.

HAFAR AL-BATIN SUB-3 : CONTRACTOR shall Supply, install, test &

commission three (3) 115kV, 2500A, 40kA, 60Hz, outdoor GCBs, fixed type, dead
tank circuit breakers suitable for 550C ambient temperature which should be
complete with local control cabinet, local/remote key switch, and all appurtenances
and accessories to replace three (3) 115 kV BOCBs.

CONTRACTOR shall Supply, install, test & commission thirty six (36) 2500/5A
bushing MRCTs (to be provided in six (6) GCBs indicated above). Bushing CTs
characteristics shall exactly match with existing bushing CTs. It is the Contractor

responsibility to install the new CTs and carry out all wiring connections required to
the existing protective relays and re-commission all relays involved in the project
Hybrid Breaker auxiliary requirements. However for additional requirements spare
feeders in the existing DC distribution panels shall be utilized. If no spares are
available, additional DC distribution panel shall be provided by the contractor.
f.

CONTRACTOR shall Supply, install, test & commission 115kV conductors suitable
for continuously carrying 2500A current, clamps, jumpers, connectors and other
hard wares, like termination hardware for connecting 115kV overhead line
conductors to SF6 CBs, replacing existing ones in KARMAH & HAFAR ALBATIN SUB-3

g.

Contractor shall reinstall the ground grid affected by the replacement work. All
required grounding materials including grounding conductor, ground rods etc. shall
be provided. Proper equipment grounding shall be carried out for all new/existing
equipment/structures. All grounding works shall be carried out as per Company
Standards. All Grounding conductors cut by the Contractor to perform Project civil
activities shall be reinstated up to the full satisfaction of Company Representative.

h.

CONTRACTOR shall provide new annunciator points pertaining to new replaced

breakers in the existing 115kV annunciator panel. If the spare windows are not
adequate to cater new requirement, new modules (similar to the existing make &
type) shall be installed in the existing annunciator panels. The Contractor shall
provide a new annunciator panel, if the existing 115kV annunciator panel is not
sufficient to accommodate the entire alarms of proposed replacement Work.

i.

The civil and structural WORKS involved in this PROJECT shall include, but not
necessarily limited to the following:
1. Utilize the existing foundations of outdoor BOCBs & if required modify the size
of the existing foundations to accommodate new outdoor GCBs.
2. Design and construction of reinforced concrete foundations of new outdoor
GCBs to meet complete requirements of project.
3. Design, fabrication and erection of hot-dip galvanized, steel supporting structure
as required for new outdoor Gas Circuit Breaker.
4.

Design and construction of reinforced concrete trenches and hand holes covered
with checkered steel plate as required for the new outdoor Gas Circuit Breaker.

5.

Protection of concrete foundations and other concrete structures (existing and

newly constructed) by coal tar epoxy coat (3 coats minimum) on portion below
grade surfaces and by Elastomeric waterproofing coat ( 1 mm thick fry film
minimum) on portion above grade surfaces.

7. Design and Construction of reinforced concrete manholes and duct banks to

route new low voltage power and control cables from new 115kV circuit
breakers to existing control room. Existing cable openings at existing control
room shall be utilized.

CONTRACTOR shall provide the following facilities/equipment at KARMAH

Substation & HAFAR AL- BATIN SUB-3.

1. New switching diagram on 600mm x 400mm laminated board shall be prepared

for the complete substation & fixed on the wall at a permanent place inside the
control building of the substations.
2. All existing equipment/materials replaced by new equipment/materials or those
which becomes out of service due to implementation of this PROJECT shall be
dismantled/packed, transported and stored in a proper way at the COMPANY
designated warehouse.
3.

One (1) steel garbage containers for substation yard and One (1) normal office
table with drawers along with three (3) chairs to replace the existing table in
Control room
