Well Being/Mana Atua

Belonging/Mana Whenua

Yusufs is now trying a wider range of

foods, and feeding himself. Teachers
encourage Yusuf to choose which item
from his lunch box and to finish what he
has chosen. Food is only offered at meal
times when he sits with all peers. His
mother has explained she does not mind if
he does not eat snacks if it allows him to be
hungry enough to eat meals currently he
is eating both, although slowly.

Yusuf enjoys the regular routines and does

very well with large group activities as
well as free play. Yusuf responds with
curiosity to new or unexpected
happenings.

Yusuf has finished constipation medication

and his mother is eager to remove his pullup/nappy. Yusuf knows when he needs the
toilet and can go independently. Teachers
need to remind him throughout the day as
he will try to fight this need. Yusuf can be
stubborn and has had some bowel motion
accidents. Teachers are very careful when
reminding him to not create an issue of
power or control.
Contribution/Mana Tangata

Communication/Mana Reo

Yusuf prefers solitary play when exploring

new concepts to allow his full
concentration. Yusuf will respond
appropriately to peers and initiate parallel
play as well as conversations. Yusuf is a
very intelligent boy who needs to be
challenged or will become bored quickly.
Yusuf takes responsibility for his and
friends learning often noticing how
everyone has individual parts in group
experiences but not all doing the same.

Yusuf is very capable of expressing his ideas,

thought and feelings in his second language
of English. Yusuf produces sophisticated
sentence structures for his age often
communicating with 8word sentences.
Yusufs vocabulary is great and is a very
confident boy. If interacting with peers he
will avoid pro-social strategies although he is
capable and will try a whimpering sound
while looking for another adult.

Exploration/Mana Aotroa

Yusuf is very intelligent and we want to

continue to challenge him through school
readiness and more advanced puzzles, crafts,
activities during free play.

Yusuf enjoys actively exploring science

concepts and understands a lot of
terminology around basic physics and
mechanics.

Our focus for Yusuf is the pro-social

strategies by stepping back and giving him

the tools as opposed to stepping in unless
needed for safety.
Yusuf is Muslim and we hope to work on his
Islamic knowledge to grow his sense of self
while strengthening links to home and
community.
