WORK EXPERIENCE
Towamencin Township Tax Collector, Kulpsville, PA
December 2014 - Present
Part-Time Assistant to the Tax Collector
This opportunity has opened my eyes to the intricacies of economics, finance, and municipal accounting. On a daily basis, I am responsible for
drafting accurate tax certifications for realty companies via Excel and Word, responding to cert requests, and meticulous proofreading of tax accounts.
Even the slightest error could mean dire consequences in the accounting of taxes.
The Alternative Press of North Penn (TAPintoNorthPenn.net)
March 2014 - October 2014
Editor
This job gave me the chance to run my own daily hyperlocal digital newspaper and offer the readers of the North Penn School District an alternative to
the familiar print publications. My responsibilities, on top of staying connected to various community leaders, municipal officials and business owners,
included coverage of government news, feel-good features, police investigations, district court hearings and business articles. The website had a
reach of more than 30,000 Unique Visitors a month; there were more than 3,700 followers on its complementary Facebook site, with about 75 percent
of those followers engaged on the site on a weekly basis. I loved the challenge to give news to our readers accurately, in an honest and open manner.
Montgomeryville-Lansdale Patch (lansdale.patch.com) and
Lower Gwynedd-Ambler-Whitpain Patch (ambler.patch.com)
December 2010 - January 2014
Editor
As editor of two Patch sites, I was given the opportunity to run online hyperlocal daily newspapers, something which the North Penn and Wissahickon
school district communities had never experienced before. Responsibilities included connecting with community leaders, managing a 24/7 news
website, writing, editing and publishing a plethora of articles on various topics, editing photos and videos daily, and managing a complementary
Facebook page. Lansdale Patchs Facebook reached more than 8,700 followers in three years, with 70 percent of those followers engaged weekly.
The Reporter Newspaper, Lansdale, PA
September 2004 - December 2010
Layout Editor/Senior Staff Writer
Landing a staff writer job at The Reporter was my dream job I was covering a community that I knew like the back of my hand, for I had passion to
write about the people, places and things in the area where I was born and raised. I took pride in drawing the reader in and engaging him and her on
the most boring of topics one could think of it was my job to make the uninteresting interesting. I proudly garnered three first-place and three
second-place acclaims for my writing. Eventually, I worked my way up to layout editor/newsroom managing editor.
The Chronicle of Salisbury, Saucon Valley and Southern Lehigh, Emmaus, PA (defunct)
September 2003 - September 2004
Staff Writer
The Chronicle was a weekly offshoot of The Morning Call newspaper. As a writer, I was tasked with producing one story, with photos, for each of the
following sections each week: Home & Garden, Business, Government, Sports, and Lifestyle. What was interesting about this job was that I covered
communities about which I was clueless and had to take time to learn about my surroundings. In the end, this made me a better writer.
The Colonial/Montgomery Life/North Penn Life, Montgomery Media, Ft. Washington, PA
June 2000 - September 2003
Staff Writer
I was hired right out of college in 2002 by Montgomery Media. Throughout my college career, I had worked as a freelance writer for the company,
strengthening my writing and growing my portfolio. While at Montgomery Media, I covered nearly 10 communities for three separate newspapers
under the brand.
The Keystone Newspaper, Kutztown University, Kutztown, PA
September 2000 - January 2001
Editor-in-Chief
After a lengthy interview process that saw three other people vie for the position, I was selected by a committee in 2000 to lead the Kutztown
University weekly newspaper as editor-in-chief. It was there that I really learned how the newspaper business works, bolstered by my major in
professional writing/journalism. I led a staff of five other section editors, photographers and a finance director.
RAD Engineering Corporation, Kulpsville, PA
March 1996 - Present
Part-Time Engineering Technician
Since my mid-teens, I have worked in a part-time capacity, running the gamut from secretarial work and website design to assembly of custom
machines and industrial work. Be it proofreading proposals, interacting with clients, driving a forklift, milling steel and metal, constructing skids, or
painting machines, RAD Engineering has allowed me to be a jack of all trades.
