The Music and How We Listen
The human ear can distinguish very soft sounds
from other sources with amazing accuracy.
Even on a busy street a mother can distinguish
the cry of her own child above the noise. Our
ability to correctly analyze small signals is the
main reason why we can hear so many details
and subtle nuances in high-end audio systems.
In music reproduction, the correct transfer of
very small signals is essential for the proper
recognition of voices and instruments. (*) Most
systems are able to correctly reproduce large
signals without noticeable distortion, but do
have problems accurately amplifying smaller
signals. Siltech uses its design know-how to
master these difficulties. Their "zero crossing
recognition theory" describes the hitherto
unsuspected importance of micro-distortion in
the transmission of audio signals. It is one of the
pieces in the puzzle of what makes significant
differences in sound as we hear it through
audio systems. The distortion is small but occurs
a few thousand times every second. Siltech has
now succeeded in reducing this micro-level
distortion by a thirty-fold minimum.
*Normal testing as performed by almost every manufacturer
and audio test-laboratory is done at higher signal levels to avoid
noise. This is the main reason for the lack of agreement between
measured and audible results.
