Introduction

Human life originated on the planet earth billions of years ago. Science
has been unable to determine the exact time since the origin of human life
on the planet earth. But one thing is for sure that the earliest forms of
human life were not the very much same as we witness today.
For example, man didnt know how to light the fire an how to sow the
fields to get his food out of the earth. But then his intellect showed him the
path of evolution and he learnt to adopt to different circumstances. Since
then, the man has been making constant progress in each and every walk of
life.
One of the different areas of life which have seen a huge amount of
improvement since then to now, is the way man has been living and
managing his affairs. As the human population grew more and more in
number, they started living in different small groups. Thus the basis of social
living was formed. As the population kept growing bigger and bigger in
number, people started dividing themselves in different geographically
bounded areas, called countries. Not only this, but within the countries the
concept of the cities and societies was introduced.
Different people then opted to learn different skills to earn their
livelihood by supplying their services to the rest of the sections of the
society. As the societies turned into clusters of people, individuals who were

previously supplying their services individually, started doing so at a mass

level by employing the people who had the knowledge of the same skill, thus
forming the basis of the concept of an organization in the society.
Different

people

have

been

associating

the

success

of

the

organizations with different variables and different parameters. It is however

generally agreed that the most valuable asset and the most important
parameter for determining the performance and efficiency are the people in
it.
Importance of having right people in the organization
People are the building blocks of any organization. People can take an
organization to a new horizon of success or to the all time low. It is not the
net monetary worth of a company or its assets that make the repute of a
company good in the business circles, but the people.
Thus keeping this in view, the importance of right people in an
organization is increased and emphasized very much. People in any medium
or big sized organization are of different moods and different nature and are
thus very hard to control effectively.
Besides giving many other benefits to any organization, good
leadership and management play pivotal role in the success of any
organization (Emma 2013) . The advantage of having right people in the

organization is that any good management and leadership theory when

applied to them, yields the closest to the best possible outcome.
Managing the people
The importance of people can be emphasized from this fact that
different successful giant organizations and corporations mention in their
policy statement that how much value and honor they give to their
employees. The most successful investment strategy according to the new
global business scenario is to invest the time and money in to the
development of people for the long term benefit of the organization.
Let us take the example of Siemens, a global electronics giant. Giant
corporations and businesses have complex standard operating procedures,
which are composed of different managerial and other theories. One aspect
of management in different successful organizations is people management.
The part of Siemens managerial policy which is concerned with people
management is referred (inside the organization) as People Excellence
(Creating a high performance culture, n.d).
The aim of Siemens people management policy is to build a high
performance culture. The is the core mission of the people excellence policy.
From a practical point of view, the question often rises that how to help an
individual to get the very best out of him. Different organizations tackle this
question through different approaches. Siemens approach is to give

responsibility to people and to trust them as well as to honor their sincere

and fair efforts (Creating a high performance culture, n.d).
The top management of Siemens believes that the motivation and the
inspiration of doing something big comes from inside of an individual and
that the external factors may affect it but not generate it. While working at
Siemenes, the workers are made to feel that their individual targets are a
part of a greater target and hence they are actually putting together a
collaborative effort toward the fulfillment of a shared goal.
How to spot the right people in an organization
There rises a big question that how to spot the right people? For
example, if I run any organization, how may I know that whether the people
working at my place are right for my organization or not? There exist
different interesting theories in this regard as well. One very common
approach of spotting the right people is that those persons in any
organization who can diagnose any problem (related with the organization),
its causes, its solutions as well as the optimal choice between the most
feasible, the most suitable and the most economic solutions. Usually when
any problem comes in an organization, the top hierarchy rushes to these
people. These people are the people you can rely on for the solution of any
problem, wholl fix your problem within the economic constraints and the

deadlines and theyll not forge lame excuses for not getting the problem
fixed (Gandz 2007).
