Areas
Content of Research
College of
Environmental
Technology
This research area, while considering the changes in the natural environment by global warming and the changes in the social
environment due to the dwindling birthrate and an aging population, is concerned with how we can contribute to making a
comfortable global environment and living environment in which people feel safe and reassured.
In other words, this research area covers the planning, designing and construction of cities and living atmospheres. In
particular, examples of research include the research and development of the control and construction of living environments,
the construction, maintenance and disaster prevention of the infrastructure including buildings and underground facilities, and
the planning, designing and construction of cities and living areas where people can live comfortably and with peace of mind.
College of
Design and
Manufacturing
Technology
This is the research area which includes designing, manufacturing and operating devices and equipment, including various
mechatronics such as cars, railways, aerospace craft such as air carriers, robots and medical equipment.
Furthermore, this area covers elemental research and systems research that includes metals, electronics and hydraulic
controlling systems. It also expands to alternative energy and environmental technology to promote the departure from fossil
fuels and to ease the global warming, and the development of many kinds of products utilizing nano-technology.
College of
Information and
Systems
This research area consists of two main fields. One is the research area of scientific technology and production technology
focusing not only on conventional efficiency-prioritized technology or short-term solutions but also on the deeper core, based
on fundamental sciences such as mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology. The other field consists of the formation of
information systems that include signal processing, conversion, communication technology, computer engineering, and of
computer-assisted intelligence in order to draft an evolving information society. In this latter field, visual information
processing and recognition, and learning as a part of intelligence technology is included in the field of artificial intelligence.
College of
Liberal Arts
This is an affiliated area, in which objects, interests and methods other than engineering are researched, which assist the
fundamentals of engineering and liberal arts.
This area consists of four major fields: the field of research in the world ofnumbersthat investigates the methods of
analysis, algebra and geometry, the field of research in information assisted education and system formation, the field of
research that focuses on language structures and literature and an interest in world cultures, and the field of research that
focuses on the perception, mind and health of human beings, and social structures, conditions, and policies.
