CASE STUDY QUESTIONS


Based on case study Facebook Dilemma(Refer to attachment) answers the following questions.
1. What concepts of E-Commerce, Digital Market and Digital Goods are illustrated in this
case study?
E-Commerce refers to a wide range of online business activities for products and services. It also
pertains to any form of business transaction in which the parties interact electronically rather
than by physical exchanges or direct physical contact.
Concepts of E-Commerce are a
1. Business- to-Business (B2B) is simply defined as e-commerce between companies. This
is the type of e-commerce that deals with relationships between and among business.
2. Business-to-Customer (B2C). Business to customer or commerce between companies and
consumers, involves customers gathering information, purchasing physical goods or
information goods and for information goods, receiving products over an electronic
network.
3. Consume- to-consumer (C2C) is simply commerce between private individuals or
consumers.
The E-Commerce concept in Face Book Dilemma case study is Business to Customer (B2C)
concepts. The reason why we said that it is B2C concepts because there is a line in the paragraph
stated that Face Book represents a unique opportunity for advertisers to reach highly targeted
audiences based on their demographic information, hobbies and personal preferences,
geographical regions and other narrowly specified criteria in a comfortable and engaging
environment.
Digital Market is marketing that makes use of electronic devices such as personal computers,
smart phones, cell phones, tablets and game consoles to engage with stakeholders. A component
of Digital marketing is Digital Brand Engagement. Digital marketing applies technologies or
platforms such as websites, e-mail, apps and social network. Digital Marketing can Be through

Non-internet channels likes TV, Radio, SMS or through Internet channels like Social Media, Emails ads and Banner ads.
The Digital market concept is this case study is the social media marketing. This can be proof by
a statement in paragraph 4 said the site has also benefited from its status as a first-mover in the
social net working market place, amassing a large audience whose users are reluctant to leave for
fear of leaving the rest of their friends behind.
Digital Goods is a general term that is used to describe any goods that are stored, delivered and
used in its electronic format. Digital goods are shipped electronically to the consumer though email or download from the Internet. Usually when you purchase digital goods online, after
payment has been received the merchant will provide you with your digital item as an e-mail
attachment or they may provide you with a secure link where you can download the item.
Example of digital goods is e-books, music files and software.

Business use social networking sites to harvest a vast amount of information about users and
their preferences for many different products and services to create carefully targeted
promotions. Business uses the sites to interact with potential customers. The sites are so sticky
that they have become very powerful marketing tools. Users are reluctant to leave for fear of
leaving the rest of their friends behind.
The Facebook Platform provides third-party developers a platform for applications like games,
plug-in features for user profiles, and other programs which are fully integrated with the
Facebook site.
Flixter, an online community for movies fans, has a Facebook application called Movies that
allows people to tell their Facebook friends about the movies theyve seen and share reviews.

In daily life there are many applications of e-commerce. The main services provided by ecommerce are as follows:
1. E-Mail
E-Mail is the most popular service through which we can electronically send and
receive messages anywhere in the world. The spoken messages can be send and
received through voice email.
2. Video Conferencing
Video conferencing is a meeting between two or more people located at different
places. It is conducted through computer network. It provides an environment of
normal meeting. It enables participants to seeand hear each other at the same time as
if they are in the same room. Video conferencing saves time and costs or travel.
Following hardware and software are required to participations in video conferencing.
- Webcam also called web camera. It is a digital camera. Its output can be viewed
in real time over a network/Internet.
- Microphone & speaker or headset.
- Special software for video conferencing.
- Computer with a large memory and fast processor.
3. Electronic Shopping(E-shopping)
The shopping conducted through Internet is known as electronic shopping or eshopping. Many business organizations have their websites on the Internet. These
websites are use to sell goods and services Customers place their orders through
websites and make payments using credit cards. Any computer connected to Internet
can be used for this purpose. People can purchase any goods such as books, software,
movies, and computers etc.
4. Electronic Banking
A service that allows an account holder to obtain account information and manage
certain banking transactions through computer network is called electronic banking or
e-banking. An electronic banking is also known as online banking or cyber-banking.
Many banks are now introducing online banking. The customers do not to go to
the bank. They can connect to the bank through network/Internet and see their bank
account status at home. They can also conduct certain online transactions from home.
They can also pay their utility bills through their bank accounts ( or through credit
card) using this facility.

3. Describe the weakness of facebooks privacy policies and features. What management,
organization, and technology factors have contributed to that weakness?
The weaknesses of Facebooks privacy policies and features are detected;
1. First is The beacon Program, it because Beacon was intended to inform users
when their friends made purchases and engaged in other activities outside of
facebook, it shared everything to the Facebook without asking the permission
first. It kinds interrupted our privacy.
2. Second is Facebook is changed of information retention and collective policy.
3. Third beside thats Facebook launched the open up site to serve as a platform
which was and afford by the company to the third party developers to become a
platform for their applications.

It become a weakness because we to give or share to them all our information and private
personal.
4. Does Facebook have a viable business model? Explain your answer.
Yes, Facebook have a viable business model because with Facebook we can do the business. For
the example with Facebook we can do online business such as sold the wide shawl, watch, cloth,
baby items and all the business can be exits in Facebook. Facebook can create business for the
advertising. The company can advertising them product in Facebook and can will be seeing
people around the world. Example : Zalora. Facebook has highly oppoturnity for advertise based
on their information, hobbies and personal preferences, geographical regions itself know as
worldwide.

5. If you were responsible for coordinating Facebooks advertising, how would you balance
the desire to become increasingly profitable with the need to protect the privacy of your
users?

Answer: For my opinion we must find the option, increase and create the system focused on
security and privacy for our user. The options have to maximize as much as he can to protect our
information and hide all our personal privacy. Beside thats the option that we use can helps us
through detecting the rubbish and dangerous user whom can harm our privacy. Its also able to
control the number of viewers and behavior. The intruder must be easily detected and blocked.
