Research Interest and Responsibility

1- Routine work.
Extracting data from seismic network, Locate the epicenter of event using seismic programs.
Making seismic catalog and seismic bulletins. Installing seismic networks. Site selection for seismic
network installation. Field seismic reflection and refraction measurements. Seismic data processing,
determine geotechnical parameters and elastic module of the rocks and layers
2- Shallow seismic refraction and reflection data.
The near-surface seismic methods were essentially applied to image the subsurface structure of the
overburden and bedrock surface and to estimates of the elastic parameters of those sediments.
Seismic refraction technique is considered as one of the most effective methods, which used here
for ground modeling and engineering purposes. Seismic refraction measurements are carried out to
define subsurface layering and structures. The obtained data is processed and interpreted using
seismic programs (Seisreflect, SIP and SIESREFA) to construct 2-D ground models. The
information obtained from refraction method includes 2-D ground models, subsurface structures.
The thickness and seismic velocity of soil and bedrock layer are mainly determined.
The value of S-wave velocity of soil and bedrock materials is mainly determined and used to
evaluate the geotechnical parameters. I can use data of shallow seismic refraction to detect small
structures in subsurface layers. Most of the theoretical and applied cases of shallow seismic
refraction are only concerned with horizontal surfaces, flat refractor or surfaces with no lateral
velocity variations. Such a simple case is seldom found in nature. I can distinguish several of
geological cases that can be encountered in nature from shallow seismic refraction data such as:
3- Ground motion prediction and earthquake source mechanics
I use seismic integrated method to simulate the high frequency ground motion produced from the
damaging earthquakes at any area, when seismic recordings are not available. Also I used some
integrated methods for earthquake source mechanics and source parameters.
4- Site effect and site response prediction.
The site response at the new urban areas is obtained by several methods. It is obtained from ambient
noise measurements and from numerical approaches using the surface shear wave velocity resulting
from shallow seismic refraction measurements. The horizontal to vertical (H/V) Ratio was applied
to estimate the site response from micro tremor records for the investigated sites.
5- Using GIS tools for mapping site effect and geophysical data.
Mapping site effect and seismic hazard effect in urban areas using GIS tools such as arc GIS,
ERDAS programs and making maps for distribution of hazard and geological structures in new
urban communities.
6 -Seismic data processing
Develop advanced seismic data acquisition and processing technologies. Develop advanced seismic
reflection techniques, both acquisition and processing, to increase data quality (fidelity, resolution,
etc) and/or to increase productivity.
