provides nutrition care based on information collected in nutrition screening. The difference
between these two terminologies is that they have diverse aim, screening aims at identifying

with nutrition plan (Charney & Malone, 2008).
2. How is the Minimum Data Set (MDS) used in nutrition screening?
The Minimum Data Set (MDS) is a form that is utilized to get relevant information about
the nutritional status of a person. MDS is completed after nutritional assessment is done and its
sued to highlight individuals experiencing nutritional challenges such as malnutrition or high
nutrition risk.
3.

List two examples of anthropometric measurements important in nutrition evaluation

(screening and/or assessment).
Anthropometric measurements are important in nutrition valuation as they determine

adipose tissue redistribution, fat mass gain, muscular mass loss, obesity, being obese and
malnutrition. Example of anthropometric measurements include knee-heel length, elbow
amplitude, waist to hip ratio (WHR), body circumferences, body mass index and weight.
4. List two examples of laboratory data important in nutrition evaluation (screening
and/or assessment).

WORKSHEET 9

The examples of laboratory data important in nutrition evaluation include Hemoglobin,

Hermatocrit, Transferrin Saturation, Serum Iron, Plasma Carotene, Serum protein and Serum
Albumin.
5. For each example given, provide the name of a drug or drug category that may have an
effect on food intake and/or nutrition status.
Decrease Appetite
Increase Appetite
Causes Nausea
Causes Constipation
Causes Gastric Irritation
Causes Taste Changes

Acetaminophen and Codeine

Remeron
Acetaminophen (Tylenol)
Diuretics
Naproxen
Cisplatin

6. Calculate the BEE for a man who weighs 234 pounds

BEE = 10weight + 6.25height - 5age + 5
BEE = (10*104)+(6.25*69)-5(25+5)
BEE = 1040 + 224.25-150
BEE = 1114.25
7. What does ABCD mean in nutrition evaluation?
A = Anthropometric Assessment
B = Biochemical Assessment
C = Clinical Assessment
D = Dietary Assessment
