Question-01: What is online Training?

Online Training
Online training or virtual training includes dissemination of information between an
instructor and a student, participant, or employee via the Internet. Online training makes use
of presentation tools such as online conferencing or webinar software, email, collaboration
tools, whiteboards and other Internet based groupware applications to assist with the
dissemination of information.

Online training is a software-based teaching program installed on a computer or a computer

network. These programs feature a section for teaching, informal quizzes and tests and/or a
final exam. Depending on the software, tests may be multiple choice, true/false, fill-in-theblanks, and sometimes even essay. Some online training is text-only, but programs that are
more sophisticated have video, flash animations, audio content, or a combination of all three.
Online training comes in two forms: closed network or over an Internet connection. Closed
networks require users to show up in person. For example, major retail stores, such as Old
Navy, provide a closed network to train employees on handling shoplifters. Retailers want to
keep these procedures private and on a "need-to-know" basis, so it uses an "in-house"
computer network. Users log in to a computer system with their employee number and
password and complete the training, ensuring that company secrets stay within the company's
network. No printouts, documents or other materials leave the office, avoiding the potential
of it falling into the wrong hands.
The second type of online training uses public Internet connections. For instance, distance
education programs, driver's safety training and online test preparation courses are conducted
over public connections, allowing users to log in from anywhere in the world around the
clock.

When training is a simple review of company policies, rules or procedures, an online entry in
a company Wiki serves the same purpose as a seminar or group instruction. For example, the
United Nations uses this format for gender issues training through its Web site, which
provides learning material, teaching resources and additional information.

The best online training is flexible and lets a user stop and repeat. The U.S. Air Force's Safety
Manager introductory training program offers a quiz at each chapter end. If they miss too
many questions, users can start that chapter over, or they can review previous chapters before
starting new material. During the final exam, users can't return to training.

Question-02: Requirements of online training?

Online Training System Requirements
In order to participate in online training and assessments, it is critical that you:

disable pop-up blockers, or your course completion will not be recorded

have the most current version of Flash Player installed

have Java installed

have confirmed that your web browser meets all Model technical requirements

If these requirements are not followed, scoring on assessments will tally incorrectly. Please
see below for detailed instructions about Flash Player, pop-up blockers, and Java.
Pop-Up Blockers
You will need to disable pop-up blockers in your browser. Some blockers may be turned off
on Windows by right clicking an icon on the system tray, next to where the clock resides. The
most recent version of Internet Explorer has a built-in pop-up blocker. To configure your

installed by following the steps below.
Open your hard drive.
Open the Applications folder.

Open the Utilities folder.

Open the Java folder.
Verify the presence of Java 1.3.1 Plug-in Settings and Java 1.4.2 Plug-in Settings.

Question-03: Different types of online training strategies?

Strategies for Online Training
Online teaching is increasingly common at many types of higher education institutions,
ranging from hybrid courses that offer a combination of in-person and online instruction, to
fully online experiences and distance learning. The following resources provide guidelines
for creating an online course, best practices for teaching online, and strategies for assessing
the quality of online education.
This paper explores key questions to consider when planning an online course and provides
guidelines for effective instructional practices.

Five online training strategies

Online training is quickly becoming a popular employee education medium down market as
small businesses increasingly recognize the cost savings and convenience that new electronic
learning tools bring.
Online education (also known as e-learning) refers to instructions in a learning environment
where teachers and students are separated by time or space, or both and where course content
is mainly provided and managed through the use of Internet and multimedia resources.
One of the toughest hurdles for SMBs used to be price. Online training was linked to big
businesses and expensive prices, but in recent years price tags have gone down and the
variety of offerings has increased.

1) Determine training needs

Carefully evaluate what health and safety training needs you employees have and then
consider your online training options and materials, advised the Safety Results Ltd.
consultant.
Before starting a program, Quilley said, instructors must clearly set course objectives and
metrics to judge the effectiveness of the course.

2) Evaluate audience and topic

Course developers must also consider the competence level of the audience and complexity
of the topic.
Some people are not comfortable with technology and might need more in-person
instruction, said Cole of McKesson.

3) Avoid information overload

Cut information into small chunks. Do not allow sessions to stretch over one hour. Any
longer and you risk losing the students attention, advices Cole.
If the topic covers more information than can be contained in the session, provide links to
online sites or a list or materials to research at a later period.

4) Make text easy on the eyes

Provide key concepts and messages in point form for easy reading and recall.

5) Mix it up
Keep audience engage by using a mixture of text, illustrations, video or slides. Provide
students and opportunity to ask questions, pitch in on discussions activities, quizzes or tests
Some workers functions best when they are able to connect with fellow students or
instructors. It is also advisable to create a channel of communication for students to contact
instructors if they have any questions about the subject or would like to go back to previously
discussed topic.

Question-04: Advantages & Disadvantages of online training?

Advantages and Disadvantages of online training
Web-based training may be compared to current implementations of computer-based training
(CBT) in quality of training outcomes. But what advantage would a training vendor have in
establishing a web training site versus producing a CD-ROM or client/server-based training
system? What considerations would favor CBT over WBT? Lets look at some of the
advantages and disadvantages of WBT.

Advantages of online or computer-based training

easy delivery of training to users
opportunities for group training (asynchronous and synchronous) as well as individual
training

multi-platform capabilities (Windows, Mac, UNIX, PDA, phone, other wireless

devices)
easy updating of content
quicker turnaround of finished product
requires less technical support
billing options by user ID, number of accesses, date/time of access
access is controllable
options for installations on private networks for security or greater bandwidth
options to link with other training systems
multitasking capability suitable for electronic performance support systems (EPSS)
vast market for distributed training
growing level of acceptance

Some others Merits of Online-trainings are as follow

Class work can be scheduled around work and family
Reduces travel time and travel costs for employees
Employees may have the option to select training materials that meets their level of
knowledge and interest

Employees can study anywhere they have access to a computer and Internet
connection
Self-paced training modules allow employees to work at their own pace
Flexibility to join discussions in the bulletin board threaded discussion areas at any
hour, or visit with peers and instructors remotely in chat rooms
Instructors and employees both report eTraining fosters more interaction among
employees and instructors than in large lecture courses
eTraining can accommodate different training styles and facilitate training through a
variety of activities
Develops knowledge of the Internet and computers skills that will help trainers
throughout their lives and careers
Successfully completing online or computer-based courses builds self-knowledge and
self-confidence and encourages employees to take responsibility for their training
Trainers can test out of or skim over materials already mastered and concentrate
efforts in mastering areas containing new information and/or skills

Disadvantages of online or computer-based training

Trainers with low motivation or bad study habits may fall behind
Without the routine structures of a traditional courses, employees may get lost or
confused about course activities and deadlines
Employees may feel isolated from the instructor and peers
Instructor may not always be available when trainers are studying or need help
Slow Internet connections or older computers may make accessing course materials
frustrating

Managing computer files and online learning software can sometimes seem complex
for trainers with beginner-level computer skills
Hands-on or lab work is difficult to simulate in a virtual classroom
bandwidth/browser limitations may restrict instructional methodologies
limited bandwidth means slower performance for sound, video, and intense graphics
Someone must provide server access, control usage, bill users.
