TITLE

: CYCLE TIME REDUCTION IN WATER WALL PANEL MANUFACTURING

- BHARAT HEAVY ELECTRICALS LIMITED.

Description
In the world today there is a need for increased productivity and shorter
lead time .My project deals with such a situation. The objective of this project is to
reduce the cycle time and increase the productivity in water wall panel fabrication by
designing a new fixture for the existing fixture, changing the bay layout and introducing
the parallel operation.
Project involved

Study of all the manufacturing activities involved in panel fabrication

The analysis of all the activities involved in panel fabrication
Improvement made over the existing fabrication activities which enable to reduce
the cycle time.
Network analysis
Network analysis helps designing, planning, coordinating, controlling
and in decision making in order to accomplish the project economically in the minimum
available time with the limited available measures. It also decides which tasks will be
performed simultaneously and which other sequentially. By critical path method the
relationship between all the activities like time and cost etc calculated.
Field work and result
In the existing fixture cycle time and distortion is more. The full weld of
the panel cant carry over in that fixture itself. So it will take more time to remove
the panel from fixture and move to another bay. In the existing fixture working
hours for the completion of the panel is 2830 minutes. The cycle time and all the
operations
But implementing the suggested network all the above said problems are
overcame and cycle time for completion of panel is 1860 minutes that is 40% of
cycle time reduced, productivity improved, and reduced material handling.
