NewsFlash
Last week students attended the RAZA
Youth

Conference at
CSUN. This was made possible in
large part to a Partnership with Big
Brothers Big Sisters of Ventura County.
Workshops were offered in Financial
Aid, Writing Personal Statements and
How to Apply for College.

The LASO (Los Angeles Sheriffs Office)

Explorer Competition was held last
weekend and over 300 Explorers from
Los Angeles, Orange, Ventura and
Santa Barbara Counties converged in
Castaic to compete in various tests of
strength, agility, team work and
intellectual pursuits. Eighteen
Fillmore High School students
represented the Fillmore
Explorer Post #2958. In almost
every event a Fillmore student
medaled. Our own Annette Fox
garnered a second place
plaque in the Advisors
Mud Run.
Five Fillmore High
students represented the
district at the
Migrant Speech and Debate
Competition several weeks
ago. They took home
several first and second
place awards. Anna Morielli
served as one of the
volunteer judges for this
yearly event.

Exciting things are happening in

Fillmore High athletics since returning
from spring break!
In swimming, senior Hannah Vasquez
set a new school record in the 110
yard butterfly event.
Her time
(1:11:20), which qualifies her for CIF
consideration, broke the ol d time by 2
seconds.

Marisa Felix went 3 for 3 with two

doubles, four RBIs
and a walk-off
three run home run
in the bottom of
the seventh inning
as the Lady Flashes softball team
defeated La Reina, 4-2. The win keeps
the team in the heart of the league
race and a strong contender for a CIF
playoff spot.
The baseball team pulled out an
exciting 4-2 win over Foothill Tech.
Danny Quintero pitched a complete
game
while
Gerardo
Rodriguez
delivered a two-out double scoring two
runs in the top of the seventh inning
to put the Flashes ahead to stay.
In boys volleyball, Fillmore remained
atop the league
standings with a
win over Foothill
Tech, 3-0. Aaron
Cronin had 16 kills
while Kyle Medina
added 6 kills and 5 blocks. Michael
Luna contributed 5 kills in the victory.
The
track
team
hosted
St.
Bonaventure and La Reina in a Trivalley league meet yesterday.

Great Things in ASB!
Congratulations to Senior Donald
Trinidad who recently went to Toronto,
Canada to compete in the Can-Am
Para-Swimming Championship.
He
competed in the 100 meter freestyle
and won his heat. In addition he won
the heat for the 50 meter freestyle
too. He was there for a week in the
middle of March and was able to
maintain his grades during the time
that he was out of the country. This
was a great learning experience for
Donald.
Wednesday Jorge Hurtado learned that
he was the recipient of the Southern
California Edison Award. There were
only 30 recipients for this amazing
award. Jorge will receive 10,000 each
year for the next four years for a total

of $40,000. Mrs. Anna Frutos-Sanchez

gave a great tribute to him when
shepresented the check during ASB.
