wanted to accomplish throughout the
songwriting/recording process.
Through my extensive training as an
actor, I felt that it was necessary to
bring the two worlds of music and act-
ing together. Film and theater have
always had a huge influence on me with
everything that I do. In “How Good We
Had It,” these two artistic mediums
collide in a way that hopefully will
tickle your senses, as it does mine.
Maybe it will cause the listener to poop
in their pants. Hopefully, if they ate a
lot of corn, the poop will be nice and
chunky and yellow. All in all, poop and
art really do have a lot in common after
all…

The Rewards of Patient Listening
During the height
of the “album’s”
popularity, ar-
guably from the
mid 60’s to the
late 90’s, people
would often hold
long discussions
about an album’s
meaning and the
socio-economic conditions that influ-
enced an artist in its creation.
The “album” itself was seen by many as
an artistic work equally important to the
visual arts or literature. Around the turn
of the century, the advent of the internet
gave listeners unparalleled access to
music for free. As we all know, this has
created a huge debate about the selling
of music and the quandary of deciding

whether or not there is a moral obligation
to pay for music. My biggest concern is
not financial, but rather that an entire
style of listening may be lost. History
illustrates that the progression of technol-
ogy often comes with a price.
As technology advances and expands,
people have more distractions and are less
willing to listen to an album in its en-
tirety. Album based bands are becoming
a minority, and only a few stalwart
groups, such as Radiohead and The Dave
Mathews Band, can still thrive in the
modern day singles market.
My hope is that people will take the time
to invest in albums and let the sounds and
lyrics grow over time. A good album is
like a bottle of wine. It is complex, lay-
ered, at times subtle, and ever evolving;
just like we are.
