CLEAN WATER SAFE LIFE

Current Scenario:
We have entered the 21st century on the wings of progress. The overall
quality of life has improved globally. However Pakistan still faces some
formidable fundamental problems. Drinking water quality is poorly managed
and monitored. Pakistan ranks at number 80 among 122 nations regarding
drinking water quality. Drinking water sources, both surface and groundwater
are contaminated with coli forms, toxic metals and pesticides throughout the
country. Various drinking water quality parameters set by WHO are
frequently violated. Human activities like improper disposal of municipal and
industrial effluents and indiscriminate applications of agrochemicals in
agriculture are the main factors contributing to the deterioration of water
quality. Almost 6,30,00,000 Pakistanis are deprived of clean drinking water.
Moreover, polluted water is a singular cause of several dangerous diseases in
Pakistan. According to the statistics, almost 2,50,000 children (less than 5
years old) die due to consumption of contaminated water.
Contaminated water is responsible for several diseases. Diarrhea, Cholera,
Thyroid, Jaundice, and Worms can be spread through contaminated water.
These diseases cost Pakistans economy a hefty sum of Rs. 1,030,000,000.
Every 4th out of 5 diseases is caused due to contaminated water and it is the
single biggest cause of high mortality rate among children in Pakistan.

issue is also essential. In that context, Al-kismet Foundation works
relentlessly towards achieving both purposes.

Pakistan plans to celebrate the day to highlight the importance of clean
drinking water. Al-Khidmat Foundation will be showcasing photographs
