Starter Program Application Form

1. Please provide a brief (no more than 500 words) summary of your overall study including
background on the task, general trial events, and how you want to incorporate eye tracking. The
purpose of providing this information is to give our staff a better understanding of the experiment.

2. Do you have any deadlines or time constraints? While we will take these into consideration,
please note paradigm completion is affected by factors such as number of paradigms currently in
the queue, responsiveness of your designated liaison, agreed upon specifications, etc. (Please
note there is a one month minimum from the date of formal acceptance into the Starter Program
for the completion of a Starter Program paradigm.)

3. What version of E-Prime will you be using with the E-Prime Extensions for Tobii?

4. Are you familiar with creating an E-Prime experiment?

5. Do you currently have an E-Prime paradigm to which you want to add eye tracking?

6. If you do not have the experiment in place:

a. What types of stimuli do you want to be used (images, sounds, movies, etc.)?

b. How will they be presented, e.g., randomly, counterbalanced?

c. Are there any restrictions in place on the repetition control, e.g. repetitions of trials or
conditions?

d. What is being controlled (independent variable), and what is being measured (dependent
variable) in your experiment?

e. What behavioral information needs to be logged in the gaze data file (e.g., reaction time,
stimulus)?

Fixations
1. Do you want to track:

a. Fixations?

b. Number of fixations?

c. Lengths of the fixations?

d. Areas of Interest (AOIs)?

i. Sort fixations number/length by AOI or AOI type?

Saccades
2. Do you want to:

a. Determine the direction of the saccades?

b. Determine the first direction the participant’s gaze moved towards?

c. Determine the first AOI the participant’s gaze moved towards?

d. Track the number of saccades?

e. Log saccade latency?

f. Calculate the absolute length of saccades?

g. Sort saccade direction and/or latency by AOI or AOI type?

Active Eye Tracking

3. Are there any contingent-based data or events in your experiment?

a. Should anything occur when the participant’s gaze follows a specific pattern?

b. Should any additional information be logged about the gaze behavior?

c. Should anything occur when a participant fixates for a specific amount of time?

Temporal Information
4. What temporal information should be tracked (e.g., sounds or movies where information should
be logged relative to events in the file)?
