CNC turning
with ISO inserts

Turning of forged or part-off rings: The turning tools and inserts used for this purpose must ensure high
process safety and reliable tool life.

CERATIZIT has the solution: an extensive and capable turning tool range and inserts for turning
bearing rings.

CNC turning
with ISO inserts

Despite the fact that the costs of cutting materials and tools represent only a very small part of the total
manufacturing costs (3-5%), the cutting edge is one of the success factors when producing bearing
rings.

As well as the edge and chip groove geometry, the performance of the cutting material is of essential
importance.

Carbides and coatings from CERATIZIT have therefore been developed and tested in close
cooperation with the operators in the field of bearings; they are specially designed for turning
operations on state-of-the-art CNC machines.

The CERATIZIT grade CTC1125 (ISO P25) is particularly suitable for turning forged rings at medium
speed. CTC1110 (ISO P10) is the first choice for high cutting speeds and for finishing part-off and
forged rings under favourable stability conditions.

Hard turning

Modern high-performance cutting materials such as cubic boron nitride (CBN) or ceramics enable
turning of hardened bearing rings.

Costly grinding operations can be avoided in this manner, cycle times reduced and production costs
decreased.

CERATIZIT has the solution: solid CBN inserts or inserts with CBN segments, cutting materials made
of mixed ceramic for turning, parting and grooving of hardened bearing rings.

Specially tailored solutions are

also possible when applying
these cutting materials.

Turning on automatic lathes
with profile inserts

Multi-spindle automatic lathes have been the tried and tested solution for many years when several
machining operations need to be carried out simultaneously to achieve very high production rates.
In the field of bearing machining, lathes are mainly applied for machining high-volume parts.
Turning tools and inserts must be specially adapted for these conditions.
CERATIZIT has the tooling solution for multi-spindle lathes.

Machining of
Radii using ‘maltese cross’ inserts
Ball bearing raceways
Sealing ring grooves
Complex insert types can also be provided
with chip grooves!
In this field too, CERATIZIT offers an
extensive cutting material range.

Benefit from the performance potential

of CERATIZIT tools on your multi-spindle
automatic lathe!

For the production of special forms we need the following information:

Detail drawing of the workpiece profile which is to be produced – including tolerances

Drawing of the insert – shape, dimensions, thickness, profile
Position of the insert in the tool holder: approach angle, axial and radial inclination angles, tip
height
Material to be worked, tensile strength
Cutting speed and feed rate
