Society as The Main Role in Election for Momentous Transition for The Nation
Indonesian is an archipelagic country that is governed as a democratic system of
government. The people who set up a system that makes policy in this country were chosen by the
people, therefore every policy is made based on the interests of the people.
Conducted the election in every five years, which means people have the absolute ability to
give hope a better change to the country within five years. But public prayer is not always
answered. Because in fact many people who elected become a parasites for this country. They use
the trust given by the people for their personal gain, such us corruption.
Many people who are chosen to be the leader, the people who are expected to bring a change
for the better Indonesia, use their power for personal gain. According to data compiled by Indonesia
Corruption Watch (ICW), "From the 102 cases of corruption of Parliament are revealed, at least as
many as 1,437 local legislators across Indonesia that has been prosecuted, either in the stage of
investigation, inquiry, to which has been decided by the courts." Said Emerson Yuntho, as a legal
executive and judicial monitoring of ICW. With the amount of state money which stolen by the
corruptors, the development of Indonesia is not optimal, poverty is still far from the expected
minimum numbers, minimum educational facilities in rural areas, untill the increase of state debt.
Luckily, Indonesia still have good people who fight for the good of the land in this country.
Good people who has high dedication. The good people who society can trust to combat the
tyrannical leaders. As the example is the people who fought in Corruption Eradication Commission
(KPK). KPK was formed in 2003 to overcome, cope and eradicate corruption in Indonesia, these
people have saved a trillion money of this country since they formed.
With the persistence of good people, Indonesia still has hopes to change the situation,
become a country that is safe, comfortable, and well-established for their people. Indonesia
required to add good people to lead this country. As a democratic society in the country, we can
change the face of the leaders of this country with the faces of honest people by choosing good
people to lead this country in election. Society has to get to know the leaders candidates. Society
can do it in many ways. One of the way is to access the internet in dct.kpu.go.id, a site that
officially released by General Election Commission (KPU) to introduce the incumbent legislators.
In fact we can find where the people who want to be our representatives lived. As intelligent people,
we can go to their place, ask their neighbors, get to know more about the people we want choose.
Country Budget and Expenditure (APBN) owned by Indonesia for the year 2013 amounted
to Rp.1.600.000.000.000.000 or 1,600 Billion rupiahs. With the health budget by only 3% of the
total budget or 48 Billion is expected to take care of around 250 million people Indonesian people.
That means one person at a cost of guaranteed health budget of Rp.192.000 a year. Whereas for
fourth doctors competency illness like flu, could cost around 150,000 rupiahs in a private hospital.
Which means that country can not help if there are people who are exposed to severe disease. Then
we can compare with official travel budget that takes only 24 Billion to 4.7 million people, or about
5 million rupiahs per person per year for official travel purposes.
Then compare it too with regular country budget expenditures which spent 15% of the total
state budget funds, or about 210 Billion. With that much money we could use it for at least 210,000

new health centers scattered throughout the country with an estimated 1 billion to build a health
center with full facilities.
All that can be done if, the good people who take care of the people's money. Here, the
grand role of the community in making a change for this country. Society should be serious in
selecting the leaders candidates.
First, Find out about these people. With KPU facility in dct.kpu.go.id, we can find out where
they live. See how big their house, find out what they do for living, how good they interact with
they neighbor. Then, if the candidates are moslem, we should know how about they pray, did they
do pray five times a day, can they read quran, or if the candidates are christian, we should know
how routine they go to church in weekends. Religious person have a strong self control, because
they have more fear to god to do something sinful. So religious person is more trusted to control
peoples money. Society should be clever in choosing the candidates.
Second, We have to know their educational background and experience. Because education
level of a person and experience like job experience or organization experience, can show us how
clever they are in making decision. People with fewer organization experience usually not really
have a stress management, so if they have to make a decision in conflict, usually they are not using
their logic so the decisions they make with in order for the society interest are not right on the
problem.
Third, after we all get the data we need about our candidates, we have to select these people,
comparing one with another, and determine whats their strength, weakness, opportunity, and threat
if they become society representative in the House of Representatives. Because we have to choose
the right person to be the leader.
Fourth, after we know which person to be our representative, we have to actively involved
in election. Cheating in election is a common things in urban areas, because no one is oversee the
process of the election. Start on giving the ballots, counting ballots, untill the deliver of the ballots.
We have to involved, society has to be the social control in making the elections is fair.
And the last is, the society role is not ends if our candidates wins the lection. We have to
support them if they need our help. Because one person cannot make rapid changes in a nation, they
need our help to make a changes in this country. Besides support the, we have to always control
how our representative rolls in the House of Representative. Because they become our leader
because our voice, so its become our responsibility if they make a wrong moves to use their
position for their personal gain.
So we have to Filter of the people who run for representative of the people, clever in
choosing, find out about these people, choose the right person to be the leader, support and watch
them. Those are we need for the momentous transition for the nation, for better Indonesia.
