For the network shown in figure 1, find the subtransient current in per unit from
generator 1 and in line and the voltages at buses and for a three phase
fault on bus . Assume that no current is flowing prior to the fault and that the prefault
voltage at bus is 1.00 per unit.

2. A circuit breaker having a nominal rating of 34.5 kV and a continuous current rating of
1500 A has a voltage range factor K of 1 .65. Rated maximum voltage is 38 kV and the
rated short-circuit current at that voltage is 22 kA Find (a) the voltage below which
rated short-circuit current does not increase as operating voltage decreases and the value
of that current and (b) rated short-circuit current at 34.5 kV.
3. Two synchronous motors having subtransient reactances of 0.80 and 0.25 per unit,
respectively, on a base of 480 V, 2000 kVA are connected to a bus. This motors are
connected by a line having a reactance of 0.023 to a bus of a power system. At the
power system bus the short-circuit megavoltamperes of the power system is 9.6 MVA
for a nominal voltage of 480 V. When the voltage at the motor bus is 440 V, neglect
load current and find the initial symmetrical rms current in a three -phase fault at the
motor bus.
4. Consider the 4-bus system of Figure 2. Buses 1 and 2 are generator buses and 3 and 4
are load buses. The generators are rated 11 kV, 100 MVA, with transient reactance of
l5% each. Both the transformers are 11/110 kV, 100MVA with a leakage reactance of
6%. The reactances of the lines to a base of 100 MVA, 110 kV are indicated on the
figure. Obtain the short circuit solution (circuit breaker rating) for a three-phase solid
fault on bus 4 (load bus). Assume prefault voltages to be 1 pu and prefault currents to
be zero.

8. Two synchronous machines are connected through three phase transformers to the
transmission line as shown in figure 5. The ratings and reactances of the machines and
transformers are
Machines 1 and 2: 100MVA, 20 kV;
Xd = X1= X2 = 20%, X0 = 4%, Xn = 5%
Transformers T1 and T2: 100MVA, 20Y/345Y kV;
X = 8%
On a chosen base of 100 MVA, 345 kV in the transmission-line circuit the line
reactances are X1= X2 = 15% and X0 = 50%. The system is operating at nominal voltage
without prefault currents when a bolted (Zf = 0) double line-to-ground fault occurs
between phases BC and ground at bus . Using the three sequence networks,
determine the subtransient fault current.
