SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT

Objective: To familiarize and prepare students with basic concepts of supply chain
as well as methods to grasp its application.
Expected outcomes: Students will understand strategic implications of SCM in all
major areas of management discipline like marketing, finance, IT, operations etc.
and make logistics or supply chain as a career option

Unit I: Introduction to Supply Chain Management(SCM) and Logistics, Evolution,
Decisions in SCM, Role of SCM in economy and organization, Value in supply chain,
SCM as profession, Challenges & opportunities
Unit II: (a)Supply chain strategies, Order Delivery Lead time, Supply chain
responsiveness, Delivery, Reliability, Benchmarking supply chain performances,
supply chain optimization
(b) Outsourcing: Make Vs Buy, Sourcing strategy, Impact of internet on sourcing
strategy, supply chain integration
Unit III: (a) Inventory Management-an introduction, imbalances in supply chain,
supply demand uncertainties, inventory costs, Vendor Managed Inventory Systems,
Inventory performance measures (financial and operational)
(b) Transportation Management-introduction and strategy, modes of transportations
and trade off, Models of Transportation and Distribution, 3PL, Overview of Indian
Infrastructure for transportation

Unit IV: Role of IT in SCM, ERP and SCM, IT and Bull Whip Effect, Reverse supply
chain, Agile SCM, Supply chain for sustainable development (Green Supply Chain)
