Valley County Combined Campaign

Kicks off on April 25th
Its the 34th year of giving to local Valley County
Non-profit organizations.
The campaign continues until May 9th.
The 8 non-profit organizations on the Valley county Combined
Campaign this year are: American Red Cross-HiLine District, Boy
Scouts, Girl Scouts, Scottie Day Care, Valley Event Center, Valley
Respice, Womens Resource Center, and First Lutheran Pre-school.
The Valley County Combined Campaign was formed so that the
community will only be contacted once during the year for donations.
The board of directors of the Valley County Combined Campaign
thanks everyone in the community for their generous and continued
support of our organization.

College and trade school students from Valley

County are encouraged to apply for the Clarence and
Charlotte Fuhrman Memorial Scholarship. Awarded
annually in June, two $1,750 scholarships will be given
this year. Since the first recipients were announced in
2011, eight students have received a total of $10,800.
Information on requirements and applications are found
on the Valley County Community Foundation website:
www.valleycountycf.net.
The Fuhrmans, who farmed and ranched in
the Opheim area, established the scholarship with
the VCCF to benefit students from throughout the
County. The annual scholarship is a wonderful legacy
to the dedication to family and community which the
Fuhrmans exemplified throughout their lives, said
Gary Wageman of Glasgow, a VCCF board member.
To qualify for the scholarship, students must have
completed at least one year of study at an institution of
secondary education such as a university, trade school
or an institution of specialized study. They must have
been a resident of the county for the last three years,
must have attended a Valley County high school for
three years, and received a high school diploma, a GED
or a home school certificate. Additional requirements
are outlined in the application.

Applications are due on June 12 and Wageman
emphasized that applications not received or postmarked
by that date will not be considered. VCCF will accept
only paper copies of the applications. Application
requirements are clearly identified on the application
form. Missing information will make the application
incomplete and it will not be considered. For more
information, contact Wageman at 228-8261.

Lynn Cornwell Memorial Scholarship

Applications are now being accepted for the Lynn
Cornwell Memorial Scholarship, sponsored by the
four Valley County Grazing Districts. It is open to any

junior, senior or above. Applicants must be attending
Montana State University-Bozeman and majoring in an
agriculture-related field. The scholarship will be in an

5th Street South, P.O. Box 422, Glasgow, MT 59230) or
by calling 228-2961 and leave a message. Valley County
schools also have the information needed to apply. The
application deadline is Thursday, May 28th, 2015.

Dont mess with

the Marines....

A former Sergeant,
having served his time
with the Marine Corps,
took a new job as a school
teacher, but just before
the school year started he
injured his back.
He was required
to wear a plaster cast
around the upper part of
his body. Fortunately, the
cast fit under his shirt and
wasnt noticeable. On the
first day of class, he found
himself assigned to the
toughest students in the
school.
The punks, having
already heard the new
teacher was a former
Marine, were leery of
him and decided to see
how tough he really was,
before trying any pranks.
Walking confidently into
the rowdy classroom,
the new teacher opened
the window wide and sat
down at his desk.

When a strong breeze
made his tie flap, the
former Corpsman picked
up a stapler and promptly
stapled the tie to his chest.

... Dead silence...
He had no trouble
with discipline that year.

Artist of the Month at Wheatgrass Arts Gallery features the works of Connie Tveten (at left) tonight from 5:30-7:30 and
refreshments will be served. Also tonight from 5:30-7:30, BilliJo Doll will be doing a book signing in the Heavey Photo Studio.

Connie Tveten is a Montana native who has had a
lifelong interest in the wildlife and history of the West.
After studies in art in college, she married her husband
Robert, and they moved to their ranch in eastern
Montana, near Vida.
The tipi rings and other signs of the Plains Indian
culture inspired an interest in depicting artifacts from
the past, both from the native culture, and the pioneer
era.
The abundance of bird life on the ranch spurred
an interest in depicting birds in the medium of wood
sculpture. Connie has carved many exotic species, but
her primary interest is depicting birds of the Eastern
Montana region.
Recently her interests have included paintings of
ancient pottery from the prehistoric Southwest. The
ancient pottery in her paintings are authentic and rare
specimens from museums and private collections.
Tveten is an award winning artist who has
participated in The C.M. Russell Auction & Art Show
since 1985. She was juried into 15 auctions, and
participated in the Russell Auction quick draw event in
2001 and 2002. Her work has been displayed
at the Clymer Museum, Ellensburg WA, the Wild Wings
National Show, Lake City~ MN, the Greely Invitational
Art Show, Greely, CO, the Ellensburg National Art
Show, where she won the peoples choice award, and the
Kinney Family Wildlife award. She was also honored
to have a one woman show at the Edge of the Cedars
Museum in Blanding, Utah. Locally, Tveten exhibits
her work at the Wild Bunch art show, and the Glory of
Christmas show held in Glasgow.

Raised on a ranch near Malta, BilliJo Doll is a

fourth generation cattle rancher. She is no longer active
in ranching, except for when she visits her step father
and mother, Bill and Louise Uphaus, here in Glasgow.
Once her sons were raised, she has since devoted
her time to writing. Her love for children led her to
write stories of adventure to encourage the reader. An
author with vision and warmth, she has worked with
young people in various volunteer capacities, wanting
to be a positive influence in their lives.
Now with several books to her credit, her most
recent novel, Murder in Montana, was printed in 2014
and is geared for a mature audience. For this reason,
she used a pen name, Anna Schilke, which was her
grandmothers maiden name. As Anna Schilke, her new
thriller is quite a long way from the lines of her earlier
sci-fi work geared towards teens.
As the tag line on the back cover of the murder
mystery reads, Her quest is to rid the world, or at least
Billings, Montana, of men who prey on women for
sexual exploitation. One by one they locate her and she
snuffs them out.

A portion of the proceeds of the sale of her murder
mystery book, also available as an e-book, help fund the
Anna Schilke Enterprise which provides funding for
trauma victim counseling.
When her Montana vacation is over shell also
be doing a book signing at Hastings in Billings May 8th
she will be headed back home where she has lived the
past several years in Jalisco, Mexico, and plans to continue
writing some fantastic novels. If youve yet to read any of
BilliJos books, the Buzz highly recommends you do so!
