Project Overview
1978 Chatham County Courthouse Completed

o After ~36 years, the building has received little in the way of major
infrastructure improvements.

1995 Master Plan & Needs Assessment

o National Center for State Courts (NCSC) determined anticipated

caseload projections through the year 2015 resulting in future court
facility needs.

2003 Facilities Master Plan Update

oUpdated to address the continue overcrowding and insufficient space

to conduct court cased in the existing facility.
oNCSC reassessed the caseload projections. Master Plan updated.
oIncluded a courts technology study.
oAll three buildings on the Courthouse Campus included.

2006 Courthouse & North Annex Renovations

o Basement, Tunnel & Sallyport for Sheriff Court Services.

2008 & 2011 Facilities Master Plan Updates
oUpdated the planning and courts technology studies.
oResult was design of a new trial courts building and renovations of the
existing courthouse in a three phased project.
oDesign for all three phases completed through Design Development
in 2012. All design suspended in 2013. Phase 1 design resumed and
completed in 2014.
