Cronidur® 30
CRONIDUR® 30 is a pressure-nitrided martenistic cold working steel. It offers a high durability at a maximum
hardness of 60 HRc. By using the PESR-process in combination with a sophisticated forging- respectively rolling
technology and extreme high cleanliness and homogeneous structure can be achieved. This leads to an excellent
machinability with an outstanding polishability and high dimensional stability after heat treatment. The partly
substitution of carbon by nitrogen offers a far better corrosion resistance and wear resistance than conventionally
produced cold working steels. Beyond this the CRONIDUR® 30 has a high temper resistance up to 500 °C. As a
result of this outstanding qualities the material is an established grade for ball screws and bearings in the aircraft
industry as well as in the common mechanical engineering industries.

Besides the classical branches there have been

developed several new applications:

Cutter knifes and Portioner-Units in the Food High-Glance Polished Cavities in the Plastics
Industry Industry
Vanes, Spindles, Extrusion- und Portioner-Units in Shredderknives und Granulatingrotors in the
the Chemical- and Pharmaceutical Industry Recycling Industry
Compression Tools Instruments in the Medical Industry

Heat treatment
Soft-annealing
Cronidur® 30 has to be heated up steadily to a content in the surface. If hardening is under normal
temperature of 780 – 820 °C. The holding time at pressure it is necessary to add a machining allowance
temperature after full warm-up is 8 h. After finished on all surfaces of 0,2 mm to eliminate possible
soft-annealing the hardness will be 200 – 240 HB. surface influences.
