If you plan to use Reactor Calibration Data Sheets, Microsoft Excel 97 or later is required. The Reactor Calibration
Data Sheets are required with for use with the optional FCCU, Catalytic Reformer, Delayed Coker, Hydrocracker, NDHydrotreater, VGO Hydrotreater, Residue Hydrotreater, Visbreaker and VGO Cracker models. Please see section 5 if
you have multiple versions of Microsoft Excel installed on your machine.
2) Installation
The HYSYS.Refinery InstallShield installation program will not work on PC's running under Windows 3.1 or 3.11 or
Windows NT 3.5.1. HYSYS.Refinery is fully supported only for Windows 95, 98, 2000 and Windows NT 4.0
platforms. For Windows NT 4.0, you must be running Service Pack 5 or higher and must also have administrator
rights on your machine.
If you intend to use the optional reactor models with HYSYS.Refinery, you must use install using the Custom Method.
Choose the calibration option in the custom menu.
This release makes use of Microsoft XML Parser dlls. The installation program will check for the presence of the
correct version on your machine and ask you to install it if necessary. You can find the version on the installation CD
in the XML Parser Install subdirectory. Depending upon your operating system, the installation program may also ask
you first to install an updated version of the Windows Installer. You can find this in the MSIExec subdirectory of the
installation CD. Installing this will reboot your computer.
If the installation program recommends reboot before use, please do so!
3) Security Key
A valid Hyprotech security key is required when running HYSYS.Refinery Version 1.1. If you encounter any problems
please contact your HYSYS.Refinery Technical Support representative.

5) Calibration and Multiple versions of Excel
The Calibration applications for the Refinery Reactor operations run within Microsoft's Excel environment, working
with versions 97 or higher. The applications are launched from the relevant Reactor view in HYSYS and use
information set-up in the System Registry to locate Excel on your machine. This mechanism looks for the default
version of Excel on the machine and can get confused where you have multiple versions, particularly if you installed
an earlier version of Excel like Excel 95 after installing Excel 97 or Excel 2000.
If you find that the wrong version of Excel is launched from the Reactor view, you can edit the settings in the Registry
to make it look at a specific version. If you are unsure of what the following instructions mean, please contact your
own computer support team first. Not all companies allow users to make such changes themselves.
1. Launch the Registry Editor tool, regedit
2. Find the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hyprotech\HYSYS.Refinery\1.1 Build 4082\Calibration.
You should see subkeys corresponding to the calibration applications available.
3. Expand each subkey in turn and check the value of the Application data key (you should see this in the right hand
pane of the regedit window). It should show a value of "Excel.Application". It is this data value you need to change
so that it identifies a specific version of Excel. For Excel 97 use the string "Excel.Application.8" and for Excel 2000
use "Excel.Application.9". (8 and 9 are the internal Excel version numbers). You can edit data key values by doubleclicking on the data key name in the right hand pane.
Changes take effect as soon as you make them, so test the change out before closing regedit.
6) Known Issues
If you have used other versions of HYSYS, you may be used to exporting Hypo Groups you set up in the HYSYS
Simulation Basis Environment. We have disabled this capability in HYSYS.Refinery. You can achieve the same effect
by exporting a Component List and then importing that into other cases. You can also import Hypo Groups created in
other versions of HYSYS.
We supply a default component list that works well with refinery simulations. Please observe caution changing to your
own components set and check your results carefully. Your HYSYS.Refinery Technical Support representative will be
pleased to help advise you.
Copy & Paste of Component Splitter and Balance operations without selecting the attached streams may cause the
program to crash.
Std Volume basis specifications in the Column may not function as you expect - we recommend using the normal
(Ideal) Volume basis.
